The underrepresentation of young people in the agricultural sector is a pervasive phenomenon that has been observed across various continents. This phenomenon has significant consequences, including the underrepresentation of youth in the agricultural workforce and the subsequent aging of the sector's labor force. The factors that motivate young people to pursue careers in agriculture are multifaceted such as income opportunities, social status, government assistance, and the family environment. The objective of this paper is to identify the factors that influence youth interest in agriculture in paddy production center area. To this end, a questionnaire survey was conducted among youth who are children of rice farmers in Karangligar Village, Telukjambe Barat District, Karawang Regency and analyzed youth perceptions using Rasch Modeling. The results of the study indicate that strong factors that influence youth interest in the agricultural sector are social factors, farmer income, and land resources. The occupation of farmer is considered to have a great influence on society. Conversely, factors such as income, societal influences, family dynamics, and policy frameworks have been identified as deterrents to youth interest in pursuing careers in agriculture. The findings underscore the imperative for comprehensive support programs aimed at fostering interest and engagement among young people in the agricultural sector. Such initiatives should encompass the provision of adequate agricultural education, facilitation of business processes, and promotion of entrepreneurship, encompassing agricultural financing, production, and marketing of agricultural products

As an effort by the Indonesian government to meet domestic rice production, in 2016 the government through BBWS Mesuji Sekampung planned the development of new rice fields covering an area of more than 17,000 ha in Central Lampung Regency. The development of new rice fields must be supported by the availability of water by building the Way Sekampung Dam, but until the dam is inaugurated in 2021, the development of new rice fields has not been implemented. This study aims to analyze vegetation density and land use at the location of the new rice field development plan. This study uses a quantitative approach with a spatial analysis method. The analysis uses NDVI methods and guided classification to create land use classifications, using Sentinel 2 satellite imagery from 2017 to 2024. Based on the results of the NDVI analysis, it can be explained that there was a considerable change in vegetation in October 2023, due to a rainfall anomaly with a category below normal. Meanwhile, changes in land cover from 2017 to 2023 occurred quite large in the classification class of paddy/field and other vegetation. The increase in paddy field/field land cover from 89.00% to 92.88% was due to the reduction of other vegetation cover such as large vegetation/rubber tree fields (10.37% to 6.21%). Meanwhile, the increase in built-up land is still in the low category of 42 ha

    Get PDF
Ajibarang District has implemented “Pekarangan Pangan Lestari” Program (P2L) by empowering women farmer groups (KWT) in the villages. However, these women farmers face limitations in knowledge and skills, necessitating the role of field agricultural extension workers (PPL). Field conditions reveal that one extension worker is responsible for three villages, leading to less effective support. Additionally, there are issues concerning the KWT management in sustaining the program. The aim of this research is to determine the level of PPL's role and the success of the P2L program, identify the factors affecting the success of the P2L program, and assess the impact of PPL's role on the success of the P2L program. The research was conducted in the villages of Tiparkidul, Darmakradenan, and Banjarsari in Ajibarang District, Banyumas Regency. Data collection used total sampling or census, involving 69 women farmers who have benefited from the P2L program. Data analysis methods included validity testing, reliability testing, scoring analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis. The results indicate that internal factors affecting the success of the P2L program among women farmers include education level, yard area, and farming duration. Age does not have a significant impact on the success of the P2L program. The role of PPL emerges as a significant external factor influencing the success of the P2L program in Ajibarang District

Permaculture is an agricultural design approach that integrates social, economic, and environmental considerations. To develop sustainable agricultural practices like permaculture, specialized training is necessary due to its distinct differences from conventional farming methods. Kebun Hanif is one of the locations that applies permaculture design concepts and conducts related training programs. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Permaculture Design Course (PDC) at Kebun Hanif and assess the program’s overall effectiveness. The research employs both qualitative and quantitative approaches, using the Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) evaluation model. Data collection methods include distributing questionnaires, conducting in-depth interviews, and reviewing documents. The results indicate that the PDC at Kebun Hanif, an intensive program that began in early 2022, teaches permaculture principles through an approach based on Islamic values. The evaluation, using the CIPP model, yielded positive outcomes across all aspects: context, input, process, and product. The context evaluation showed an 83% satisfaction rate, demonstrating the program's relevance to local needs. The input evaluation scored 84%, highlighting sufficient resource allocation and planning. The process evaluation scored 80%, indicating that the program was implemented as planned, though there is room for improvement. The product evaluation revealed an 80% success rate, reflecting the program’s effectiveness in achieving its goals and in the application of permaculture concepts by participants
