    Scaffolding Agentic Literacy & Voice Honoring Practices For Language Minority Students

    This Action research project sought to discover how teachers and researchers have looked at accessible literacy practices that bridge home and school discourse in historically and linguistically underrepresented populations in English Language Arts classrooms and how to build self-efficacy in those classrooms with student monitored assessment as learning practices. I searched for research on class/privilege assumptions regarding student funds of knowledge, linguistic repertoires, and sociocultural approaches as they are related to various themes such as deficit perspectives in order to understand the consequences and possibilities of our field’s dominantly white, L1 English speaking, middle-class teachers on the historically underrepresented people they serve to educate. I also searched for scaffolding and student self-assessment and assessment-as-learning strategic teaching processes because it is not enough to make a space inclusive and conducive to all student voices but to challenge and deepen the student voice as their right to rigorous learning as a trusted facilitator. Additionally, because I would be studying my own practice and focusing on these ideas in my endorsement area, I looked for studies that indicated the kinds of instruction that are effective for close reading strategies in the English Language Arts classroom as a message and means of student self-efficacy, self-regulation, and resilience. Further, using close reading through reciprocal teaching and transactional reading respectfully and fiscally circumvents mandated curriculums at no or little cost to districts, avoiding the prescriptive and commercialized literacy programs that affect low-income schools the most

    Social Emotional Learning in Writing Instruction

    This Action Research Project explores the principles of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in context of a writing classroom and using deliberate selection of diverse mentor texts to attempt to help students build identities as writers. This study was conducted primarily by collecting data about my teaching as I attempted to implement these ideas in my work as a student teacher during Western Oregon University’s Winter Term in 2021. I followed an Action Research Project model for self-study of my teaching practice, and I collected a handful of sources of data about my own teaching practice, including notes, lesson plans and peer commentaries on my mentor text selections. Through the study I identified some of my own flaws in attempting to implement SEL principles in the classroom, specifically: failing to devote enough time to some classroom activities and thus failing to create a classroom that is supportive, participatory and engaging; assigning overly challenging mentor texts; and failing to engage in planned and deliberate direct instruction of SEL skills like self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making. Nevertheless, despite the limitations of my study, I ultimately recommend writing teachers attempt to embrace SEL principles and diverse mentor texts as they teach. This is because of the strong theoretical and research backing for these ideas and my own experience seeing these practices have positive impacts on students within the limited confines of my study

    In this tumultuous school year and changing learning environment, it is crucial that teachers are able to look at their own teacher readiness to approach a myriad of topics. These include criticality in the classroom, differentiated instruction, and inquiry-based learning. Using a variety of strategies, the process of self-reflection is paramount to the success of teachers and their ability to adapt instruction and overall preparedness to take the lead in a classroom. This research includes a study over the course of several months in which the process of continual self-reflection in an online learning environment due to COVID-19. An Amicable pair is a pair of two whole numbers, each of which is the sum of the proper whole number divisors of the other.     The Fibonacci Sequence is a common mathematical phenomenon that intrigues both academics and intellectuals alike. It is known as a fun, numerical sequence that builds on itself to infinity. As it turns out, the Fibonacci Sequence is more than a quirky additive sequence, it’s a foundational component to several different branches of mathematics. It’s basic formula can be tweaked ever so slightly to produce Pell numbers, various metallic ratios, and Pisano Periods, just to name a few. The Fibonacci’s original formula famously produces the Golden ratio and Golden Spiral which people across the world claim to see in nature, art, and science. In this presentation we will show where the Fibonacci is famously found, along with lesser known places in mathematics. It will show that we aren’t seeing the Golden Spiral everywhere, that the maths and ratios are integral to each spiral we see, and what you are seeing may not be the spiral you’re looking for

    Our project creates an easy to use tool to organize bills and track ongoing monthly spending in comparison to available monthly income. Billable allows for the sorting of expenses by each month which allows the user to visualize how much money is being spent for the month. This platform assists in organizing bill information to prevent overdrafts and late fees that can accumulate over time. When a financial goal is set, the project assists in maintaining that goal by providing real time comparison of current spending against the user’s goal. Billable is not only a place to gather, organize, and track financial information, but it is also a way to enhance the user’s potential and ability to effectively manage their personal finances. Most importantly, Billable provides bill information and history in a centralized repository

    Iterated Function Systems (IFS, for short), as they\u27re known today, are a relatively new creation/discovery, being conceived and distributed in 1981. Since then, with the increase of technological efficiency in computer programming and processing, IFS based fractals have become relatively normal in terms of their appearance. How? Digital fractal based art. Through the chaos game, and fractal flames, it becomes possible to create unique pieces of digital art purely through programing and math. In this video, we will give a very brief overview of how the chaos game works, and its applications in creating works of digital art, as well as a brief overview of fractal flames, and their processes for creating art through math and programming

It helps a user feel safe in cases of emergency, since they can ask for help with the touch of a button and some initially provided information. There is also an option where the user chooses who they want as their emergency contacts, as well as the ability to enter a custom message to send. The application has user friendly features, which enable users to utilize the application with little to no instruction
