Comparative Study of Two Chinese Versions of To the Lighthouse from Eco-feminism’s View

    Get PDF
With the advancement of ecological theory, ecological crises have become a major problem on a worldwide scale. Eco-feminism, as a new branch of theory, is a theory produced by the interaction between the feminism movement and Ecologism in the process of development. Eco-feminism believes that in a patriarchal society, both nature and women are oppressed by human beings, so women have a natural connection with nature. In addition to being one of the forerunners of feminist literature, Virginia Woolf is regarded as the most gifted female author in the annals of English literature. Her feminist literature "To the Lighthouse" has been deeply studied by scholars and interpreted from the perspective of Eco-feminism. They found that this work embodied the ideas of anti-anthropocentrism, anti-androcentrism and creating a harmonious environment, which are all core elements of Eco-feminists. There are a lot of scenes describing women and nature, man and nature in the To the Lighthouse, which reflects the author's Eco-feminism thought. This paper chooses Ma Ainong's translation and Qu Shijing's translation as the research object, aiming to explore the embodiment of Eco-feminism in the two translations, as well as the selection and application of translation strategies and techniques

China’s Educational Reforms in a Global Context: Opportunities, Challenges, and Policy Responses

    Get PDF
This paper examines the interplay between globalisation and the development of China’s education system, focusing on the influence of the World Bank’s educational policies and investments. By exploring theoretical perspectives on globalisation, including transformationalism, this study analyses the evolution of China’s educational reforms in response to global economic and policy shifts. The research investigates the World Bank’s historical role in shaping educational practices in China, from higher education projects to basic and vocational education initiatives. Additionally, the paper discusses the dual impact of globalisation on China’s education—highlighting the growth of marketised English education alongside efforts to promote the Chinese language and culture globally through institutions like Confucius Institutes. This paper underscores opportunities and challenges in aligning China’s educational strategies with global standards while preserving cultural identity. The paper concludes with recommendations for balancing internationalisation with educational autonomy in the context of global interconnectedness

Enhancing Teacher Development through Professional Learning Communities: A Mixed-Methods Study in Chinese Universities

    Get PDF
This study investigated the implementation and impact of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) on English language teacher development in selected Chinese universities. Employing a mixed-method approach with a convergent parallel design, the research examined the extent of PLC implementation across various dimensions and its influence on teachers' professional growth. Quantitative data from 136 EFL teachers and qualitative insights from 14 participants (7 PLC leaders and 7 members) were collected and analyzed. Results revealed high levels of teacher involvement in key PLC components, including shared vision and goals, collaborative learning, reflective practice, data-driven decision-making, leadership, and structured programs. The study found that PLCs significantly enhanced teachers' content knowledge, instructional practices, personal growth, and collegial relationships. Qualitative findings corroborated these results, highlighting improved collaboration, instructional strategies, and support for English learners. The integration of quantitative and qualitative data provided a comprehensive understanding of PLC effectiveness in the Chinese higher education context. However, challenges were identified in areas such as advocating for PLC work beyond immediate communities and translating data insights into concrete learning objectives. The study contributes to the growing body of research on PLCs in diverse cultural contexts and offers valuable insights for implementing and sustaining effective professional development models in Chinese universities. Recommendations include enhancing institutional support, developing teacher leadership skills, and fostering a culture of open feedback and data literacy. These findings have implications for educational policy and practice in China and globally, particularly in adapting PLCs to different cultural and institutional settings

Exploring the Design and Practice of Ideological and Political Education in the Course of Tunnel Engineering under the Background of New Engineering Discipline: A Case Study of Hope College, Southwest Jiaotong University

    Get PDF
Under the background of the new engineering discipline, talent cultivation requires not only intellectual education but also moral education. In response to the main issues concerning ideological and political education in the current new engineering discipline curriculum, this paper focuses on exploring the process of ideological and political construction in tunnel engineering. It highlights the necessity of curriculum-based ideological and political education and the exploration of ideological and political elements. These elements are cleverly integrated into the course design, and the effectiveness of the ideological and political practice in the curriculum is examined through an evaluation of teaching outcomes. The aim is to improve the educational effectiveness of the tunnel engineering construction course and provide valuable insights and references for the ideological and political construction in other engineering disciplines

The Importance of Activity Space: Implication from the COVID-19 Pandemic

    Get PDF
Objective: This study aims to observe the influence of activity space factors on physical health by analyzing the changes in the physical fitness of the general public at the beginning of the pandemic, and to provide a reference for the government to revise the national fitness program. Methods: The study was cross-sectional and based on a sample (N=29562; age:20-69 years) of the residents in Zhejiang from 2018 to 2020. Data were analyzed with SPSS (version 26.0). Result: Over the past two years, the residents' unqualified rate and physical fitness scores have been consistently declining. In 2020, the probability of urban residents failing the physical fitness test is 1.61 times that of rural residents. Compared to 2019, the lung capacity, step test index, sit-and-reach, and BMI scores of residents improved in 2020. However, the grip strength, vertical jump, standing time on one foot with eyes closed, and selective reaction time scores of residents have been declining over the past two years.  Conclusion: Activity spaces are crucial for residents to maintain and improve overall physical fitness. It is necessary to strengthen strength training and plan more open public activity spaces to improve the physical fitness level of residents

Research and Application of Intelligent Construction in Prefabricated Building Construction

    Get PDF
The rapid development of emerging technologies such as BIM has greatly promoted the intelligent development of prefabricated building construction. This paper adopts a research method that combines on-site investigation, field testing, and technological development to explore quality control in prefabricated building construction and the integration of prefabricated buildings with intelligent construction. Focusing on three key technologies in prefabricated building construction - component installation, on-site layout, and steel connection—the paper examines the technical principles, operational processes, and application effects. It also studies and develops intelligent construction-related technologies such as, accurate alignment of prefabricated components, intelligent layout technology and simultaneous self-locking connection technology for multiple steel. Additionally, two types of rapid steel layout equipment are developed. These findings provide references for the further integration of prefabricated concrete construction with intelligent construction

The Correlation Analysis of Multimodal Interaction in English Class on Vocabulary Depth Acquisition

    Get PDF
This study, set against the backdrop of an English classroom, explores the impact of multimodal interaction teaching models on vocabulary depth acquisition and its underlying mechanisms. By integrating Cognitive Load Theory with Sociocultural Theory, the study analyzes the pathways through which multimodal synergies, such as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic, affect vocabulary semantics, grammar, and pragmatic abilities. Combining theoretical explanations with empirical methods, the research reveals how multimodal interaction promotes the deep internalization of vocabulary knowledge through situational construction, cognitive resource optimization, and socialized practice. The results indicate that multimodal teaching can effectively strengthen semantic network connections, enhance the implicit acquisition efficiency of grammatical rules, and increase the contextual adaptability and cultural perception of vocabulary. The study provides theoretical support for innovative English vocabulary teaching, emphasizes the practical value of multimodal task design in achieving multidimensional language ability development, and offers a reference for the transformation of classroom models
