The Empowerment of Drug Users to Combat Fentanyl Crisis Through Organized in a Campout: Based on the Fieldwork in Vancouver
Drug users’ empowerment is critical for their sustainable development, particularly for their survival during the Fentanyl Crisis in which overdose deaths and non-fatal overdoses have increased in recent years across North America. As one of the epicenters, Vancouver has been suffering overdose deaths in the past decade. Simultaneously, Vancouver has a history of empowering drug users to save their lives since the 1990s. Based on the fieldwork in a campout originated by VANDU and REDUN in 2019, this study aims to understand the drug users’ empowerment to construct their strengths, individual competence, and proactive behaviors when they are organized. The active involvement of drug users in their group’s events has enabled them to employ innovative approaches to generate, sustain, and implement alternative methods. Empowering drug users through their organization in policy making and implementing policies to combat the Fentanyl Crisis leads to the evolution of a sustainable society
Impacts of Community Green Spaces on the Mental Health of Urban Residents: Evidence from Periods of Public Health Crisis and Non-Crisis
The frequent occurrence of public health emergencies highlights the importance of community public spaces in urban emergency management. While community green spaces are a key form of public space, their impact on urban residents' mental health during crises and non-crisis periods is not well understood. This study analyzes survey data from Xi'an citizens during and after the COVID-19 pandemic to explore how community green spaces affect residents' mental health. The findings reveal that: (1) Interaction with community green spaces significantly improves mental health through two mediators—connectedness to nature and neighborhood social cohesion. (2) The effect of connectedness to nature was stronger during the pandemic and in higher-risk situations, while neighborhood social cohesion had a greater impact post-pandemic and in lower-risk times. (3) Women benefit more than men from green spaces in terms of mental health improvement. (4) The impact of green space engagement on mental health decreases with age. (5) Higher educational attainment strengthens the mediating role of connectedness to nature and weakens that of neighborhood cohesion. This study suggests using community green spaces to address mental health issues during public health emergencies, enhancing urban emergency management's ability to provide humanistic care

The Political Scientist as an Economist: Decoding Bounded Rationality, AI (Artificial Intelligence), and Organizational Decision Making in the Works of Herbert A. Simon
Herbert A. Simon’s theories of administration successfully bring together an understanding of how and why decisions are made in respective organizations. Moreover, throughout his significant works, Simon sought practical solutions to particular administrative and management problems — that is, he lectured on how to organize and put in place practical solutions for workers or individuals (in companies), while they make significant contributions to organizational goals, using his theory of bounded rationality. In this regard, this paper also tries to concisely present some of Simon’s thoughts and ideas (in specific and general ways) about the future of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in businesses. Simon died on February 9, 2001; but before his death, he made major theoretical ideas that provide us (today) with a fundamental way to study administrative management, while providing us with empirical observations and different patterns for understanding the future behavior of people or workers in different organizations and/or other social and political institutions. For his profound and important works, Herbert A. Simon, who was basically a political scientist, was awarded the 1978 Nobel Prize in Economics Sciences

IMPLEMENTATION OF BUSINESS EDUCATION PROGRAMME IN AN ERA OF ECONOMIC UNCERTAINTY IN NIGERIA
The study investigated institutional collaboration and quality implementation of business education programme in an era of economic uncertainty in Nigeria. The study was guided by two hypotheses. The population comprised 47 business educators from two public universities in Cross River State: University of Calabar (UNICAL) and University of Cross River State (UNICROSS). Census technique was used since the number was considered manageable. A researcher made instrument titled “Institutional Collaboration and Quality Implementation of Business Education Programme in an Era of Economic Uncertainty Questionnaire” (ICQIBEPEEUQ) was used for data collection. The instrument was face and content validated by three experts, two from Business Education and one from Measurement and Evaluation units from the surveyed universities. To ascertain the internal consistency of the instrument, a reliability estimate of .77 was achieved for the instrument using Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient after a pilot study. Of the 47 questionnaires administered, 95.74% representing 45 copies were retrieved and used in the analysis. Simple linear regression statistical technique was used in testing the hypotheses at .05 level of significance. Findings revealed among others that collaboration through lecturers’ exchange programme significantly predict quality implementation of business education programme in an era of economic uncertainty. Based on this, it was recommended among others that institutions of higher learning especially the universities should be encouraged to have a strong inter-institutional synergy between and among themselves where lecturers from one university can go to another university other than theirs to teach and/or carryout collaborative research concerning any particular issue of concern. By so doing, valued experiences would have been harnessed and appropriated by those institutions who may not have the capacity of employing renowned scholars.
Does Trade Pressure Undermine Corporate Green Transformation? Evidence from Anti-Dumping Investigation in China
This study explores the impact of anti-dumping investigations on the environmental expenditure and green transformation of Chinese exporting firms. Drawing on a comprehensive panel dataset of listed firms from 2000 to 2016—merged with firm-level customs trade records and anti-dumping data from the World Bank Global Antidumping Database—a difference-in-differences (DID) framework is utilized to identify the causal effects of anti-dumping trade shocks. The findings reveal that anti-dumping investigations significantly reduce firms’ environmental expenditure and weaken corporate social responsibility (CSR), suggesting that institutional trade pressure crowds out sustainability commitments. While regional environmental regulation exerts a buffering effect, mitigating the adverse impact, the environmental policy stringency of export destinations does not demonstrate a significant moderating role. Further analysis shows that anti-dumping pressure also hinders firms’ broader green transformation, indicating long-term ecological setbacks beyond immediate financial disruption. By examining firm-level responses to external trade pressure, this study contributes new evidence on the ecological consequences of protectionism and emphasizes the importance of supportive regulatory environments for sustaining corporate green strategies. The results offer practical implications for aligning trade resilience with environmental objectives in the context of global sustainability transitions
Routine Child Immunization during the COVID-19 Global Pandemic in Eswatini: Challenges, Loss of Gains and Benefits
Introduction: Timely uptake of immunisations by all children at immunisation ages is key towards maintaining good health and protecting lives of the 80 million children worldwide. Disruptions of healthcare systems due to the impact and spread of coronavirus disease (SARS-CoV-2) created an issue of public health importance that required to be addressed in order to preserve gains in child survival statistics. Method: This analysis aimed at assessing the performance of child immunisation initiatives in Eswatini during COVID-19. Data on child immunisation before and during COVID-19 (i.e. before December, 2019 and for the year January to December 2020) was sourced from vaccination records kept by the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) and from the Health Management Information System (HMIS) of the Ministry of Health in Eswatini. Results: Most child immunization rates for different diseases in 2019, before COVID-19, were generally above the cumulative target. The only disease with cumulative immunisation rates below the cumulative target was MR2. The cumulative number of children unimmunised against MR1 shows an exponential increase in 2020 following implementations of strategies to reduce spread of COVID-19. Our study suggests that the implementation of routine immunisations between March 2019 and 2020 suffered logistical constraints such as: the supply of vaccines, delivery cold chain problems, staff shortage due to reallocation of nurses and doctors to work on COVID-19 and some testing positive to SARS-CoV-2 infection and having to go into quarantine and isolation. Discussion: Delayed or missed immunisations created a large cohort of children that became susceptible to infection due to lost herd immunity. Increased number of unimmunised children against MR1 and the other vaccine preventable childhood diseases while the country focused on reducing transmission of COVI-19 is likely to have created a large pool of susceptible children from which epidemics could arise. As such, the reported outbreaks of mumps, measles, etc, could be as a result of the large pool of unvaccinated children resultant from COVID-19 partial lockdown. Conclusion: Epidemics of some of these vaccine preventable childhood diseases could result in catastrophic consequences of unimaginable proportions and deaths among children. Therefore, efforts should always be made to ensure gains in routine child immunisations are never lost during epidemics such as COVID-19
Digital Technology Innovation Empowers Green Transformation and Upgrading of Manufacturing Industry
The manufacturing industry is the backbone of the national economy and one of the major sources of energy consumption and environmental pollution. In the face of the dual challenges of intensifying global warming and increasing scarcity of natural resources, accelerating the green transformation of the manufacturing industry has become a key breakthrough in the implementation of sustainable development strategies. This paper finds that digital technology innovation can effectively promote the green transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry, and this result remains robust after a series of robustness tests and endogeneity treatment. Digital technological innovation can reduce transaction costs, enhance human capital and alleviate information asymmetry to a certain extent, and then promote the green transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry. Based on the above findings, this paper obtains the following countermeasure suggestions: (1) Strengthen financial support. (2) Formulate policies according to local conditions. (3) Promote cooperation among industries, universities and research institutes
