By organizing theories related to English course resources, their classification and functions are clarified. The current issues in the development of English course resources for everyday life, in terms of form, content, and updating, are revealed through methods such as questionnaire surveys and case analyses. Through theoretical research and empirical analysis, it is found that the development of English course resources for everyday life significantly enhances students' pragmatic competence

Challenges and Strategies for English as a Second Language (ESL) Students in Higher Education

The research highlights the significant impact of these obstacles on student retention rates, academic achievement in professional fields such as nursing and STEM, and overall mental well-being. Additionally, the study evaluates the effectiveness of various intervention strategies, including early language assessments, targeted academic support, linguistic modifications in evaluations, and the integration of technology-driven learning tools. Findings underscore the necessity for universities to adopt a holistic approach to ESL education by implementing structured support systems, peer mentoring programs, and mental health initiatives. By embracing these strategies, institutions can foster an inclusive learning environment that enhances ESL students’ academic performance, confidence, and long-term career prospects

A Comparative Study of Multimodal Metaphors in Chinese and American Climate News Cartoons
Get PDFThe study employs Multimodal Metaphor Theory and Critical Metaphor Analysis to examine data from Chinese and American climate news cartoons using NVivo. This approach enables an exploration of the similarities and differences between China and the United States regarding climate issues, as the cartoons provide valuable insights into the cultural and political values associated with these issues. The main findings of the study are as follows: (1) The cartoons predominantly utilize a range of metaphorical constructs, including the “Threat metaphor,” “Responsibility metaphor,” “Hoax metaphor,” “Disease metaphor,” “War metaphor,” and “Journey metaphor.” (2) Multimodal metaphors are primarily conveyed through the interplay of textual and visual elements, as well as the juxtaposition of foreground and background. (3) A critical metaphor analysis of the data reveals that China and the United States share a similar stance on climate issues, with both nations actively pursuing solutions to combat climate change in cartoon news. However, the analysis of climate cartoon metaphors suggest that the United States adopts a contradictory stance and course of action in relation to China in news media presentation of climate issues

Digital Transmission Strategies for Xiangxi’s Intangible Cultural Heritage in Traditional Ethnic Sports
Get PDFAs a vital component of regional culture, Xiangxi’s traditional ethnic sports carry rich historical memories and social value but face challenges in the modern era—limited transmission channels, a narrow audience, and fragmented digital resourceswing on a literature review and fieldwork, this study combines surveys and in-depth interviews to gather needs data from three stakeholder groups: government agencies, cultural institutions, and local communities. Through statistical and visual analysis, it uncovers the key constraints and opportunities in digitizing these sports. Building on existing platform architectures and content presentation modes, we propose a strategy framework centered on “multi-platform integration, interactive participation, and targeted delivery.” We applied this framework in the “Xiangxi Sports Cloud” platform and a series of mobile micro-video projects, preliminarily demonstrating its feasibility and effectiveness. Findings indicate that by creating an integrated digital platform, optimizing content structure, and enhancing user interaction, we can achieve long-term protection and broad dissemination of Xiangxi’s intangible cultural heritage in traditional sports. Finally, we discuss the strategy’s strengths and limitations and outline recommendations for policy support and future research

It also classifies and compares common thermoplastic, thermosetting, and special engineering plastics. Combining typical application scenarios, the paper deeply explores the practical application value of these materials in industries such as power, communications, automotive, rail transit, and aerospace. Additionally, it analyzes the challenges faced by current materials under complex conditions such as high temperature, high voltage, and high frequency, and prospects the development direction of intelligent and environmentally friendly polymer insulating materials.
