Institutional Investor Shareholdings and Corporate Sustainability: A Study from the Perspective of Corporate Governance

This research analyzes how institutional investors' holdings of shares impact enterprises' sustainability-development activity as facilitated by corporate governance systems between investors and other stakeholders. Using agency theory and stakeholder theory, an analytical framework was developed by the authors to examine the various pathways that institutional investors (IIs) exercise their oversight responsibilities in addition to their strategic roles. The authors state that embedding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) measures into executive-incentive agreements can significantly improve corporate performance, and active ownership practices of IIs combined with synergy from other IIs also provide an important foundation for these measures. The researchers conclude that the construction of a governance ecosystem that is based upon long-term value is central to promoting sustainable development through institutional capital

Frequency Use of Facebook and Academic Performance of Senior High School Students

This study examined the relationship between the frequency of Facebook use and the academic performance of Grade 11 STEM Senior High School students at Baliwasan Senior High School – Stand Alone in Zamboanga City. Employing a descriptive-correlational research design, the study involved 300 purposively selected students who were active Facebook users and willing to participate in the survey. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire measuring three sub-variables of Facebook use: frequency, intensity, and purpose. Reliability and validity of the instrument were ensured through expert review and pilot testing, with a Cronbach’s alpha of ≥0.70. Descriptive statistics, including weighted mean and standard deviation, summarized students’ Facebook usage patterns, while the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to examine the association with first-semester academic performance. Findings revealed that students exhibited high frequency of Facebook use (mean = 4.14), moderate intensity (mean = 3.77), and moderate purpose of use (mean = 3.94). The general weighted average of participants was very satisfactory (mean = 89.37). Correlation analysis indicated a very weak, non-significant negative relationship between Facebook usage frequency and academic performance (r = -0.082, p = 0.631). These results suggest that although Facebook is integrated into students’ daily routines, its frequency of use does not significantly impact academic outcomes. The study underscores the importance of balanced and purposeful social media engagement in supporting student learning

Machine Learning-Based Prediction of Stock Market Returns

Focusing on the prediction of CSI 300 Index returns, this empirical study employs a hybrid CNN-LSTM-Attention model. The model integrates the strengths of CNN for local feature extraction, LSTM for temporal dependency modelling, and the Attention mechanism for key information focus, effectively capturing the multi-scale characteristics of financial data. Comparative experimental results demonstrate that multivariate models achieve superior fitting performance compared to univariate models, with the hybrid model outperforming either single model. This research validates the application value of deep learning models in financial time series forecasting, providing a novel approach for stock return prediction and offering reference for quantitative analysis and decision-making in financial markets

The application of integral equations for currents in symmetrical loop antennas of arbitrary length and different form (circular, rectangular and another short-circuited forms) allows us to substantially raise the calculation’s exactness of electrical characteristics for the appointed antennas’ versions and to be convinced that the received result is substantially distinguished from the characteristics of small antennas

AI and MIST in Circular Economy and Resource Recovery: A Comparative Analysis of Ecommerce Industries

The rapid expansion of e-commerce has altered retail, but it has also exacerbated environmental issues such as packaging waste, product returns and product recovery, and resource depletion. This research evaluates the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Modern Information Systems and Technologies (MIST) to achieve Circular Economy (CE) development and resource recovery in the context of e-commerce above the major e-commerce platforms of the United States, United Kingdom and Indian markets—Amazon, ASOS, IKEA Online, Big Basket, and Nykaa. This study used a quantitative research design and Power BI analysis to compare the extent to which these firms utilize AI and MIST to retrieve circularity, reduce carbon emissions, and improve operational efficiency. The findings revealed a clear relationship between high levels of AI and MIST relative to operations—such as predictive analytics, IoT-enabled tracking, blockchain transparency, and cloud-based logistics—and significant improvements in resource efficiency, waste reduction, and customer satisfaction. The e-commerce platforms with the greatest levels of CE performance were Amazon and IKEA Online platform, although emerging firms like Big Basket and Nykaa were beginning to adopt these models. In conclusion, both AI and MIST drive sustainable development, create customer trust, and increase competitive advantages, suggesting that their role in e-commerce is a key focus for digital transformation for sustainable e-commerce

A Constructional Analysis and Pragmatic Functions of the Expression “Who is as X as you”

The construction “shéi yǒu nǐ X” (“who is as X as you”) is a relatively common expression in everyday discourse. It consists of the fixed component “shéi yǒu nǐ” (“who has/is like you”) and a variable embedded component “X.” It is generally assumed that the overall meaning of “shéi yǒu nǐ X” is inferred from the non-referential (non-specific) and negative meanings of the interrogative pronoun shéi (“who”), such that the construction is interpreted as “no one is more X than you.” However, based on observations from daily communication, the author finds that in certain specific contexts, “shéi yǒu nǐ X” does not simply convey the meaning “no one is more X than you,” but additionally carries an ironic sense, expressing a particular counter-expectational meaning. This meaning can only be realized at the level of the construction as a whole and cannot be directly inferred from any individual component. This paper analyzes the characteristics of the components of the “shéi yǒu nǐ X” construction, with particular emphasis on the construction when it conveys counter-expectational meaning, and discusses its ironic pragmatic functions in concrete contexts

A Multimodal Discourse Analysis of Subtitle Translation in the Film Nezha: The Devil Boy Conquers the Sea: Experience and Implications

As an animated film carrying Chinese mythological narratives, Nezha: The Devil Boy Conquers the Sea explores themes of resistance to fate, identity construction, and value reconstruction, and has aroused wide resonance among audiences both at home and abroad. Exploring how subtitle translation can balance semantic accuracy and emotional transmission, ensuring that the film’s value system transcends linguistic and cultural barriers and resonates with audiences from different cultural backgrounds, contributes to improving overseas audiences’ overall perception and acceptance of Chinese animation. Taking Nezha: The Devil Boy Conquers the Sea as the research object, this paper, based on Multimodal Discourse Analysis (MDA), examines subtitle translation from four dimensions—culture, context, content, and expression. The study aims to provide experience and insights for film subtitle translation, enhance the artistic quality of audiovisual translation, and promote the global dissemination of Chinese animated works

Transmission and Reconstruction of Yue Regional Cultural Images in the International Dissemination of “The Tang Poetry Road in Eastern Zhejiang”

The Tang poetry along “The Tang Poetry Road in Eastern Zhejiang” contains three categories of Yue regional cultural images: natural landscape, humanistic history, and folk life. This study constructs a corpus of multiple English translations of Li Bai’s poems, comparing the transmission of Yue regional cultural images in the English translation process. It is found that translators mainly adopt translation strategies such as transliteration/literal translation plus annotation, free translation, amplification, omission, and substitution. However, due to linguistic barriers, cultural heterogeneity, and differences in translators’ aesthetic preferences, these images often suffer varying degrees of loss and mistranslation. Accordingly, this paper proposes reconstructing Yue regional cultural images from three dimensions: linguistic symbols (footnotes, endnotes, and paratexts), non-linguistic symbols (illustrations and real-scene photographs), and cross-cultural narration (replacing with similar cultural elements in Western contexts). These strategies aim to preserve the core of Yue culture while building a bridge for cross-cultural understanding, helping Western readers empathize with the poetic charm and humanistic connotations of the Yue region

Perception of Leaders and Developments in Turkiye’s Foreign Policy (2002-2018)

This book argues that the fundamental transformation in Turkish foreign policy under the Justice and Development Party (AKP) from 2002 to 2018 is best explained by changes in the perceptions, worldviews, and identity-building projects of its leaders, principally Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ahmet Davutoğlu. Employing a constructivist theoretical framework focused on the individual level of analysis, it traces a shift from a “Passive-Western-Oriented” discourse to a “Proactive-Unilateralist and Identity-Based” one. The doctrine of “Strategic Depth” provided the initial intellectual roadmap, while the Arab Spring served as a critical turning point. The interplay between leaders’ evolving perceptions of Turkiye’s power and identity forged two distinct periods: an era of unproblematic commercial diplomacy followed by a phase of aggressive, identity-driven policy. The book concludes that, although structural factors were influential, the agency and perceptions of leaders were decisive in redefining national interests and macro-orientation

New Quality Productive Forces and the Development of New Flexible Employment Models Constraints and Pathways

Based on the developmental context of the era of New Quality Productive Forces, this paper systematically analyzes the connotations, theoretical mechanisms, and developmental constraints of new flexible employment models, proposing a multi-dimensional collaborative development pathway. The study indicates that new flexible employment models are characterized by technological embeddedness, platform-based collaboration, and diversified value exchange. Their development requires overcoming the structural contradictions between traditional labor institutions and skills supply. By constructing a safeguard system through institutional innovation and policy synergy, strengthening technology empowerment and the application of data elements, deepening the reform of the education system, promoting the synergistic development of the platform economy ecosystem and social value, and improving the social security and risk-sharing mechanisms, the current constraints can be effectively addressed. Driven by New Quality Productive Forces, flexible employment models are not only an inevitable choice for the labor market to adapt to technological change but also a crucial pathway to achieve the “free and comprehensive development of individuals” and high-quality economic development
