IoT Enabled Health Monitoring System Using Wearable Sensors for Chronic Disease Management
This paper reviews the application of IoT-enabled health monitoring systems using wearable sensors for chronic disease management, particularly focusing on Type 2 Diabetes (T2D). It explores how advanced technologies, including machine learning (ML) and virtual reality (VR), can enhance real-time health monitoring and predictive analytics. Wearable sensors collect essential health data, which is analyzed using ML algorithms to predict disease progression and improve treatment strategies. The study also considers VR’s role in enhancing patient education and self-management. Additionally, the integration of these systems with electronic health records (EHR) is examined to facilitate seamless data access for healthcare providers. Ethical considerations, such as data privacy and patient consent, are addressed to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The review highlights the potential of IoT, ML, and VR to transform chronic disease management by advancing personalized care and improving patient outcomes. Tracking LUCR-3\u27s Relentless Attacks Across the Cloud Ecosystem
Cloud-focused attacks are on the rise, moving far beyond the commonplace cryptomining campaigns or initial access gained by poor password policies and lack of MFA. Persistent threat actors have adapted to rising defensive best practices, even evading MFA by push fatigue attacks and SIM swapping. LUCR-3 (Permiso’s name for the threat actor group also known as Scattered Spider), who notably compromised MGM and Caesars in late 2023, epitomizes this level of persistence in their methodical approach to targeting specific industry verticals and effectively compromising, escalating and exfiltrating the desired intellectual property from their victims. Permiso’s P0 Labs team has tracked and responded to LUCR-3 for the last 1.5 years, noting their effective traversal of technology boundaries from IaaS to SaaS and even PaaS. Additionally noteworthy is their practice of infiltrating internal communications and SaaS-based knowledge sharing platforms immediately upon initial access to retrieve internal processes, playbooks and stakeholders required to carry out their mission. This presentation will inform defenders about many of LUCR-3’s notable TTPs, with a specific technical focus on those TTPs targeting the SaaS and IaaS layers from both an offensive and defensive perspective. While Scattered Spiders’ TTPs range widely, their persistence and focus is anything but scattered
A particle-based simulation of a dam break interacting with an obstacle
Knowledge of dam break events is crucial to assess the potential hazards of sudden water releases and develop better disaster management plans. This work develops a computational model based on a messfree method, called the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH), to simulate situations when a dam breaks and there is an obstruction in the route of the flowing water. The model accurately simulates the complex interactions between fluid and structure by including a weakly compressible fluid and using a cubic kernel function to govern particle interactions. To maintain realistic simulation results, a repulsive boundary condition is used to prevent particles from passing through solid boundaries. The simulations aim to investigate the impact of the obstacle on flow behavior, and the outcomes are checked against the experimental data. These results show that the SPH framework accurately simulates dam break dynamics with an obstacle, aiding risk assessment and disaster response planning
Centrifuged Concrete, Characteristics and Application in Concrete Elements
The purpose of this research is to gain knowledge about centrifuged concrete elements, the technological process of production, application and standards. First of all, the materials used such as: aggregate, cement, additives and the important water/cement factor are presented. The mixing of materials for the production of centrifuged concrete according to the relevant standards and regulations, the design of concrete for centrifuged concrete elements and the criteria that must be taken during the design. Then it was attempted to present the characteristics of the quality of the centrifuged concretes and also the characteristics of the component materials of the centrifuged concretes. It is also presented the production of elements from centrifuged concrete and the methods of production of columns from centrifuged concrete, the different shapes of columns from these concretes, the advantages of centrifuged concrete compared to other concretes, the use of columns from centrifuged concrete in construction engineering
Using and Understanding Night Flow in a DMA Case Study-UlpianaPrishtinë-Kosovë
According to international standards, the best practice method for monitoring a watersupply system is to sectorize it into district metered areas. A district metered area (DMA) is an area with strict hydraulic boundaries within a distribution system with measured inflow into this discrete area. The measured minimum night flow can be compared to a default or to the customer night consumption to calculate water loss.For a supply system with detailed information about the structure, pressure and hydraulic gradients, it is also possible to identify water loss with high reliability using a method of monitoring district metered areas. By subtracting the estimated customer night usage, unavoidable background leakage and exceptional night usage from the measured MNF, an estimate of DMA leakage can be calculated
Study on The Use of Mechanized-Fired Clay Bricks as a Supplementary Cementitious Material
The current global tendency in the construction industry is to replace a portion of the cement in the concrete mix with materials of cementitious properties to mitigate the cement industry’s negative environmental impact. This study explores using finely milled Mechanized-Fired Clay Brick debris to partially replace Portland cement in the production of mortars. The principal aim is to create a more costeffective mortar for non-structural uses while also tackling the problem of disposing of waste bricks. Two samples of Mechanized-Fired Clay Brick were collected from two different factories, pulverized into a fine powder, and added to the cement mortar mixtures in 10%, 15%, and 20% by mass of cement. Mortars were examined for their chemical composition, fineness, consistency, and setting time. Furthermore, the compressive strength of the mortar specimens at 3, 7, and 28 days was tested. Results showed that the strength activity index of both samples exceeded 75% at 7 days and reached nearly 100% in 28 Days. This confirmed the suitability of mechanized-fired clay brick to be used as a supplementary cementitious material
Variation of steel rebars quantity for main structural elements of a typical residential building for two different seismic regions based on EC8
The design and construction of typical residential multi-story buildings in our region recently constitutes the main part of constructions as a special construction sector. When talking about construction in general, and especially about the construction of this kind of buildings with medium number of story (612 floors), special emphasis is placed on the issue of whether those objects are well designed and an important issue is discussed among the investors and specialist about the difference of steel rebars quantity for this kind of building, located in different location with different seismicity requirements in aspect of structural design performance. Here in the paper will be presented the results and comparisons of the main structural elements for a typical residential building, analyzed in two different seismic regions
Reinforced Concrete Structural Elements, Strengthened by FRP (FiberReinforced Polymer)
This abstract explores the application of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) strengthening techniques on reinforced concrete structural elements subjected to short-term loading. The study aims to evaluate various FRP methods and their impact on structural performance. Techniques investigated include automated wrapping, prestressed FRP, fusion-bonded pin-loaded straps, in-situ fast curing with heating devices, prefabricated shapes, CFRP applied inside slits, and FRP impregnation via vacuum. The effectiveness of these techniques was assessed through experimental applications on reinforced concrete beams and columns. For beams, FRP was positioned at various locations to determine its influence on load distribution and strength enhancement. For columns, comparisons were made between FRP-wrapped columns and those with FRP reinforcement bars. Results demonstrate significant improvements in load-bearing capacity and structural integrity across the tested methods. These findings provide practical insights for optimizing FRP applications in construction engineering, contributing to enhanced durability and safety of reinforced concrete structures.
