Fetal brain tissue annotation and segmentation challenge results

Automatic segmentation of the developing fetal brain is a vital step in the quantitative analysis of prenatal
neurodevelopment both in the research and clinical context. However, manual segmentation of cerebral structures is time-consuming and prone to error and inter-observer variability. Therefore, we organized the Fetal
Tissue Annotation (FeTA) Challenge in 2021 in order to encourage the development of automatic segmentation
algorithms on an international level. The challenge utilized FeTA Dataset, an open dataset of fetal brain MRI
reconstructions segmented into seven different tissues (external cerebrospinal fluid, gray matter, white matter,
ventricles, cerebellum, brainstem, deep gray matter). 20 international teams participated in this challenge,
submitting a total of 21 algorithms for evaluation. In this paper, we provide a detailed analysis of the results from
both a technical and clinical perspective. All participants relied on deep learning methods, mainly U-Nets, with
some variability present in the network architecture, optimization, and image pre- and post-processing. The
majority of teams used existing medical imaging deep learning frameworks. The main differences between the
submissions were the fine tuning done during training, and the specific pre- and post-processing steps performed.
The challenge results showed that almost all submissions performed similarly. Four of the top five teams used
ensemble learning methods. However, one team’s algorithm performed significantly superior to the other submissions, and consisted of an asymmetrical U-Net network architecture. This paper provides a first of its kind

Residents’ perceptions of the impacts of tourism in the Azores archipelago (Portugal): A cluster analysis
No full textThe tourism industry has been increasingly viewed as an essential component of development processes, especially
in certain low-density territories and islands. In turn, it is clear that residents play a fundamental role in the
quality of tourists’ experiences and, consequently, for the success of a tourism destination. In this research, a
cluster analysis was used to segment the residents of the Azores Archipelago (Portugal) in function of their
perceptions of the impacts of the tourismindustry. The analysis revealed the existence of three clusters: Optimistic
residents, which corresponded to the large majority of the respondents; Moderately Optimistic residents; and
Unconvinced residents. The results are in conformity with the common findings in the empirical literature, in
particular in the case of emergent tourism destinations. Regional and national authorities should be aware of these
results when designing their policies, in particular when pursuing sustainable development strategies.2025-12-3

No full textThe emergence of COVID-19 brought many changes and uncertainties to companies, which resulted in new business risks and threats to the going concern assumption, which cannot be neglected by the auditor. Auditing is also affected in its process, due to the limitations in obtaining audit evidence, arising from the fact that many audit procedures are carried out remotely. Considering the above, the aim of this study is to verify if the COVID-19 influences the Audit Report of the companies listed in Euronext Lisbon, concerning the type of opinion and the existence of emphases and relevant audit matters. For this purpose, a content analysis of 78 Audit Reports was carried out and measures of association between the variables under study were applied. The results proved that the COVID-19 influences the audit report only at the level of emphases emission. This study presents contributions, as it deals with a current and little explored theme,
innovating also by the fact that it analyses the COVID-19 as a determining factor of the Audit Report
O Contributo de Jogos de Tabuleiro Cooperativos no desenvolvimento de Soft Skills. O CASO DO JOGO BROIL
No full textO universo dos jogos sofreu um rápido impulso nos últimos dez anos e, apesar da crescente influência do mundo digital, os jogos de tabuleiro representam um espaço vasto em crescimento. Coloca-se em evidência o caso do desenvolvimento natural de comunidades dedicadas a momentos de lazer, cultura e socialização em volta deste género de jogos analógicos, impulsionado por eventos de jogos de tabuleiro. A investigação que desenvolvemos a partir destas evidências debruça-se sobre os contributos de jogos de tabuleiro cooperativos para o desenvolvimento de soft skills, tanto do jogador individual como do grupo de jogadores, bem como para edificar grupos sociais empáticos e responsáveis. Nesse contexto, a componente teórica deste trabalho foca-se em compreender e contextualizar a relevância de jogos de tabuleiro enquanto artefactos artísticos e objetos para a agência do jogador. Serão analisados métodos de desenvolvimento de personagens e de design de narrativa que facilitem a integração social e o estreitamento de laços sociais formativos para o jogador. Por fim, procura-se aferir a eficácia e o interesse deste projeto com o público-alvo a partir de eventos onde são facilitadas sessões de jogos de tabuleiro com o nosso protótipo. O conteúdo destes eventos foi desenvolvido a partir da investigação sobre o mercado atual de jogos de tabuleiro e o uso de métodos de pesquisa sobre jogo, como a exploração iterativa do jogo nos seus vários estados de desenvolvimento. A intervenção prática deste trabalho toma forma na produção de um jogo de tabuleiro cooperativo original onde os jogadores são incentivados a completar uma série de desafios enquanto equipa de forma a avançar na sessão e alcançar a vitória. A produção deste jogo de tabuleiro permitir-nos-á explorar métodos alternativos de design de jogos, narrativa e desenvolvimento visual, e analisar a adesão do público a essa nova experiência de cooperação para o desenvolvimento de capacidades sociais
Lifestyle Entrepreneurship as a Vehicle for Leisure and Sustainable Tourism

Via a qualitative method, through a comparative case study of 11 businesses, the goal is to evaluate if the lifestyle entrepreneurship initiatives promote sustainable tourism in rural areas, identifying the specific business created and evaluating their growthtowardtheplannedstrategiesandactionsrelatedtointernalresourcesandcapacity,aswellas marketing. Lastly, the results present the plans made for growth according to the necessary balance among economic progress, environment, public health, and a social context. This study promotes decision tools for entrepreneurs and destination managers as to the practices to be adopted with the goal of sustainable development. Thus, in terms of ecological responsibility, the use of renewable energy through biomass is a very efficient practice because it both produces energy and reduces waste, since the energy production comes from plants and animal waste
Contratos de Construção - Aspetos Contabilísticos e Fiscais numa PME Prestadora de Serviços no Setor da Construção Civil
No full textO presente relatório relata a experiência de estágio curricular realizado, no âmbito do Mestrado em Contabilidade e Finanças, da Escola Superior de Gestão, do Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave, na empresa Ivo Ribeiro Unipessoal, Lda., o qual teve como principal temática os contratos de construção.
O estágio teve a duração de 6 meses, decorrendo de dezembro de 2021 a maio de 2022, tendo o mesmo obedecido aos requisitos previstos no artigo 9.º do Regulamento de Inscrição, Estágio e Exame Profissionais da Ordem dos Contabilistas Certificados.
Para além de descrever todas as atividades desenvolvidas no decurso do estágio, este relatório conta ainda com uma revisão bibliográfica da temática dos contratos de construção, assim como a aplicação de um contrato real executado pela empresa acolhedora de estágio.
O facto de o reconhecimento do rédito de uma empresa de construção civil ser muito diferente da maioria das outras entidades com atividades distintas faz com que esta temática se revista de grande importância contabilisticamente, especialmente no reconhecimento dos réditos e dos custos. Verifica-se assim uma grande necessidade de controlo dos custos através de uma regular frequência de realização dos autos de medição, a fim de evitar a necessidade de correções de fim de ano.
No que diz respeito aos aspetos fiscais existirão certamente diferenças temporárias persistentes ainda que normalmente dedutíveis e revertíveis em períodos subsequentes, diferenças estas provenientes de gastos dedutíveis após terem sido reconhecidos no resultado contabilístico
Imposto sobre veículos-componente ambiental
No full textNeste trabalho abordamos o tema da componente ambiental no imposto sobre veículos (ISV), tema que tem gerado muita divergência nos tribunais nacionais.
Pretendemos numa primeira fase fazer um enquadramento dos impostos, não podendo excluir os extrafiscais. Para esse efeito veremos também o art. 66º Constituição da República Portuguesa.
No segundo capítulo abordaremos a tributação automóvel nos Países-Membros da UE de forma generalizada, e em Portugal de forma mais exaustiva, dando especial destaque ao ISV.
Em seguida, incidiremos na componente ambiental, que suscita tanta divergência na apli-cação das normas no imposto do nosso estudo, ISV. Faremos uma breve abordagem à histó-ria, à problemática do CISV, analisaremos os art.s 7º e 11º e abordaremos a dupla tributação.
Faremos uma análise a quatro acórdãos do Tribunal de Justiça da União Europeia (TJUE) e no último tema, o futuro da tributação automóvel.
Terminamos com as conclusões emergentes das nossas pesquisas e reflexões em torno do tema, abordadas e selecionadas com esta investigação

No full textA titulação de factos sujeitos a registo predial, após a entrada em vigor do Decreto-Lei n.º 116/2008, de 04 de julho sofreu uma grande “revolução”.
O Decreto-Lei n.º 116/2008, de 04 de julho, além de outras medidas inovadores, veio permitir que a titulação de factos sujeitos a registo predial pudesse ser feita com recurso ao documento particular autenticado, permitindo desta forma que outros profissionais, designadamente solicitadores e advogados, pudessem titular este tipo de negócios.
O “nascimento” do documento particular autenticado sujeito a depósito eletrónico deu-se, como é sabido, com o Decreto-Lei n.º 116/2008, de 4 de julho, trazendo novos problemas relacionados com as formalidades desse documento, nomeadamente relacionadas com o seu arquivo.
Neste trabalho tentamos fazer uma análise desta questão, para a qual urge obter respostas, de forma a evitar alguns entendimentos díspares e suportados na simples decisão discricionária de alguns intervenientes em todo o processo de formulação do documento particular autenticado, que servirá de base a um registo que se pretende qualificado como definitivo
A 5 pillars approach to the sustainable development goals performance and reporting in Portuguese higher education institutions. Proposal for an applied framework
No full textPurpose – The implementation and reporting of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) is one of the emerging challenges for higher education institutions (HEIs), but the lack of well-de!ned reporting structures and topics for this sector makes it dif!cult to map and evaluate HEI performance in relation to 2030 Agenda. This study aims to assess the SDG performance and reporting by the 13 HEIs that integrate the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking (THE_IR), from the perspective of the !ve pillars of the 2030 Agenda in the Portuguese context, where research on this topic is quite scarce.
Design/methodology/approach – Considering the THE_IR methodology, an SDG reporting assessment framework with 85 key topics has been developed to search for in the institutional reports of the 13 studied HEIs. For each topic, depending on the number of institutions that disclose it, a reporting index (RI) has been calculated, which was used to compare the level of reporting between the different SDGs and pillars.
Findings – Concerning HEIs’ SDG performance in the THE_IR, the People pillar was the one with the most HEIs ranked, followed by the Prosperity pillar. The Planet pillar was less highlighted. SDG reporting varied widely among Portuguese HEIs. The SDG RI presented a mean value of 43.1%. The Kruskal–Wallis test revealed that the RI for the Planet pillar (RI 23.6%) was statistically and signi!cantly lower than those for the People and Prosperity pillars (RI 48.6% and 53.5%, respectively). The results thus demonstrated some conformity of the SDG reporting with Portuguese HEI performance in THE_IR. Aside from Goal 5, the SDGs 4 and 3 stood out in the !rst four positions of the HEIs in the THE_IR. Goals 3 and 4 were also the most disclosed in institutional reports.
Originality/value – This study proposed and applied a new SDG reporting assessment framework for HEIs, contributing to better evaluation of the inclusion of important SDG-related topics in their institutional reports.FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P., within the scope of multi-annual funding UIDB/04043/2020
