Mapping the Digital Business Landscape: A Systematic Literature Review of Transformation, Governance, and Ecosystem Dynamics (2020–2025)
The digital transformation of global business ecosystems has rapidly reshaped how organizations create value, manage data, and compete in an interconnected economy. The convergence of platformization, artificial intelligence (AI), fintech innovation, and sustainability imperatives has generated complex cross-industry interactions, necessitating a comprehensive synthesis of recent research. Despite the proliferation of studies, existing literature remains fragmented across technological, managerial, and regulatory dimensions. Therefore, this study systematically reviews and integrates current knowledge on digital business between 2020 and 2025, identifying dominant themes, methodological trends, and research gaps shaping the future of digital transformation and governance. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted following PRISMA 2020 guidelines to ensure methodological transparency and replicability. Searches were performed across Scopus,Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar using Boolean combinations of keywords such as “digital business,” “digital transformation,” “AI,” “platform,” and “data governance.” From 1,132 initial records, 874 unique studies were screened, 148 were fully reviewed, and 18 met all inclusion criteria. Each study was assessed using CASP/JBI quality appraisal tools and analyzed via thematic synthesis through open, axial, and selective coding. Eight core clusters emerged: platformization & ecosystems, digital transformation of SMEs, omnichannel experience, data governance & privacy, AI & automation, fintech & payments, sustainability & social impact, and cross-border global value chains. ANALYSIS OF THE USE OF THE FRAUD HEXAGON MODEL IN DETECTING FRAUD IN STATE-OWNED ENTERPRISES IN INDONESIA
Background: State-owned enterprises (SOEs) face unique fraud vulnerabilities due to institutional complexity and dual accountability. The 2019 ACFE Indonesia Survey revealed SOEs ranked second among institutions most harmed by fraud (31.8%). High-profile cases demonstrate the severity of this governance challenge. Existing fraud frameworks inadequately address the multi-layered risk environment characteristic of state ownership structures.
Objective: his study examines fraud hexagon model adequately captures fraud dynamics in Indonesian SOEs by testing how six elements stimulus, capability, collusion, opportunity, rationalization, and ego influence financial statement fraud while accounting for institutional peculiarities of state ownership.
Research Methods: Using purposive sampling, 16 SOEs listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (2017-2022) provided 96 firm-year observations. Financial statement fraud is measured using the F-score model (Dechow et al., 2011). Independent variables operationalize fraud hexagon elements: stimulus (ROA), capability (CEO education), collusion (price-to-book ratio), opportunity (receivables-to-sales changes), rationalization (auditor changes), and ego (managerial ownership). Multiple regression analysis using EViews 13 tests hypotheses at 5% significance.
Research Results: Three elements significantly influence fraud: financial targets, nature of industry, and managerial ownership. CEO education, market performance, and auditor changes show no significant effects, suggesting individual characteristics matter less in institutionally-determined fraud environments.
Originality/Novelty of Research: This study proposes an "Institutional Fraud Framework" recognizing that fraud hexagon elements operate differently in SOE contexts—some amplified, some neutralized, and some reversed. It represents the first comprehensive test of all six elements in Indonesian SOEs, using F-score continuous measures for nuanced fraud detection. Findings demonstrate the need for context-specific fraud theories rather than universal private sector models
Media transition and social exclusion: Structural poverty in the Gadukan community post digital television migration
The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Regulation No. 07/P/M KOMINFO/3/2007, which marked the beginning of television digitization, compelled people to switch from analog to digital. The acquisition of a set-top box (STB) was necessary for this relocation. Due to the lack of STB (television station) coverage, a slum area in Gadukan village, North Surabaya, has trouble viewing television; as a result, they lose their sources of knowledge and amusement. The flood of information and entertainment around them marginalizes the locals. Inequality in the slum community will be made worse by this circumstance. Research on how people feel excluded from enjoyment and information is based on this. The central thesis of the notion of technological determinism is that human existence itself will be shaped by changes in communication methods. According to Valente's Theory of Innovation Diffusion, social networks can affect the rate and pattern of innovation diffusion; being in the center of the social network and having a large number of social connections tend to be quicker and more efficient. According to Robert K. Merton's strain theory, imbalance brought on by marginalization increases a person's susceptibility to pressure that results in abnormal behavior. Phenomenological studies were employed as part of the qualitative research methodology. The findings demonstrate how poor groups' access to information has been marginalized as a result of television's digital migration. The idea that media technological determinism is a structural tool in poverty has been reinforced by poverty resulting from information marginalization
TVRI mediamorphosis: Transformation from news TV broadcasting to commercial broadcasting through the TVRI Klik Channel
This research aims to understand the mediamorphosis process in TVRI's transformation from conventional to digital media, with a case study on TVRI Klik broadcast and a focus on TVRI World channel. Data was analysed qualitatively through netnography methods, exploring the dynamics of digital platforms, user preferences, content consumption patterns, and reactions to media changes. The results show that the transformation of TVRI Klik, which began in 2017-2018, marks a significant shift towards more interactive and integrated broadcasting. TVRI World aims to combine international broadcasts with local content. Despite facing technical challenges, co-operation with social media platforms and streaming technologies helped increase visibility and audience engagement. This transformation shows how TVRI can adapt to the digital age, provide more diverse and flexible content, and strengthen its role as an educative and informative public television
Mediation and mediatization in agrarian conflict in Indonesia on the Instagram accounts @wadas_ melawan and @rempang_melawan
The agrarian conflict in Indonesia was nothing new. In fact, it was rooted back to the Dutch colonial era hundreds of years ago. This meant that rural conflict in Indonesia had gone on for a very long time. However, the various solutions offered by stakeholders never satisfied all parties. There were always some who benefited, on the one hand, and others who were disadvantaged, on the other. Initially, rural conflict was limited to landowners, companies, and the state. In the era of social media, the conflict has lengthened. Instead of resolving the conflict, social media added to the long series of agrarian conflicts in Indonesia. When agrarian conflict was uploaded to social media, it became public consumption regardless of space and time. This research was a qualitative study that combined social media text analysis (Critical Discourse Analysis), particularly on Instagram, and field research. The initial focus of the research was on two Instagram accounts, @wadas melawan and @rempang melawan. The results of the study showed that social media, as a digital space, became an arena for conflicting parties to fight. As a virtual public space, social media was utilized by those in conflict over agricultural issues. Secondly, the best alternative for resolving agrarian conflicts was dialogic communication involving all interested parties. Lastly, the farm reform that the government had always echoed needed to be carried out by involving all interested parties
Understanding the role of gamification and loyalty programs in restaurant apps: a systematic literature review and conceptual framework development
The rapid digital transformation in the restaurant industry has led to the widespread adoption of mobile applications incorporating gamification, rewards, and loyalty programs to enhance customer engagement and retention. This study conducts a systematic literature review to synthesize recent research on these strategies in restaurant mobile apps. Following the PRISMA guidelines, a comprehensive search of the Scopus database identified 587 records, with 42 studies published between 2020 and 2026 meeting the inclusion criteria. Thematic analysis revealed four primary themes: (1) mechanisms of user engagement driven by motivational affordances fulfilling autonomy, competence, and relatedness needs; (2) architecture of rewards and loyalty programs evolving from transactional to digital, tiered, and personalized ecosystems; (3) outcomes on customer loyalty encompassing both attitudinal and behavioral dimensions; and (4) challenges including privacy concerns, poor design, and wellbeing implications. The findings are interpreted through Self-Determination Theory, Service-Dominant Logic, and Oliver's loyalty framework, demonstrating that gamification enhances customer experience and fosters loyalty through need satisfaction and value co-creation. Practical implications guide restaurant managers and app developers in designing layered gamification experiences, navigating personalization-privacy trade-offs, and implementing ethical engagement practices. The review identifies critical research gaps, including the need for longitudinal studies, cross-cultural comparisons, and investigations of negative outcomes. This synthesis contributes to theoretical development in digital loyalty and offers actionable insights for industry practitioners
