Implementation of Guided Notes in the High School Setting
A senior, education related capstone research project that analyzes the self-reported and content knowledge effects that implementing guided notes has on student performance. Students were taught a series of classroom units with varied styles of taking notes and given content quizzes to see if the different styles of notes had an effect on students\u27 content retention. Scores from each unit were collected and translated into graphs in order to compare the content knowledge retention from each unit
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome
Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is a common condition that involves pain of the patellofemoral joint. Based on current research available through multiple database searches a detailed literature review of physical therapy treatment intervention efficacy studies were summarized. A hypothetical primary study is being proposed to further exam the efficacy of strengthening of the leg musculature compared to stretching on the treatment of PFPS. Methods for a hypothetical primary study implementation were proposed to validate treatment efficacy. Creative Writing in the Common Core Classroom
Students in the 21stcentury have so much to say and so much to learn, but without the use of creative thinking and creative writing, their learning can become fragmented, which results in a loss of motivation. To increase student motivation and creative thinking in the classroom, this research project implemented creative writing in a journal to positively impact the students writing capabilities and rapport toward the monotonous academic writing that is portrayed. The classroom is a place to encourage abstract and inventive thinking, therefore a journal is an effective and positive way to urge students to write, while also polishing their already present writing skills
“Can We Work Together?”: Collaboration to Build Literary Analysis Skills in AP Literature Courses
Teaching literary argumentation in an Advanced Placement Literature & Composition course is never an easy task. Some students are better equipped to tackle the challenging material while others need more guidance through the material and skills. This research project examined one approach to building literary argumentation skills through collaboration on essay outlines between mixed-ability pairs of students. Following this activity, students were reassessed in another literary analysis essay to investigate if mixed ability peer collaboration can help build individual rhetorical and analytic skills in students
