This accounting services provider opened in 2019 and had only used word of mouth and referred/legacy clientele from a partnering firm to attract customers. Setters agreed to partner with Shawnee State University’s Marketing Management class in Fall 2019 for an agency project. The student team evaluated Setters’ situation and proposed a strategic marketing plan targeting small businesses and private individuals in need of tax services. The teams devised a strategy with supportive tactics, suggested messaging, sample collaterals, and outcome evaluation suggestions. The students presented the proposal live and Setters was free to use all materials in actual practice
Exploring Golden Behaviors During the COVID-19 Pandemic
No full textSince 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of lives in the United States alone. Many of these effects stem from public health safety measures such as lockdowns and social distancing. Although important, these measures disrupted daily routines and social support. These disruptions are associated with adverse consequences. For example, the CDC recently noted a distressing increase in suicidality in 2020. The present research investigated the relationship between behavioral repertoires (e.g., actions such as walking, playing, etc.) and measures of self-perceived mental and physical health in the midst of this historic challenge. Although patterns varied across samples, correlational evidence was found in our research, suggesting that positive behavioral repertoires were linked with benefits. We found relationships between positive repertoires and both psychological and physical health, even in the context of a global pandemic

Allowing students to lead the classroom instruction through their own voice, as well as giving them a choice in their activities, are two strategies that teachers can implement in their classroom. This study focused on the effects of this style of teaching on the interests and attitudes of the students towards the content being studied

No full textCarpal Tunnel Syndrome is a common condition that involves entrapment of the median nerve at the wrist joint. Based on current research available through multiple database searches a detailed literature review of physical therapy treatment intervention efficacy studies were summarized. A hypothetical primary study is being proposed to further exam the efficacy of biofeedback therapy with therapeutic exercise compared to overnight splinting with therapeutic exercise on the treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Methods for a hypothetical primary study implementation were proposed to validate treatment efficacy. Results and conclusion of data findings were hypothetically concluded based on results of previous studies within the literature review performed
Examining the Internal Consistency and Predictive Validity of a Post-Test Administered to Developmental Math Students
Get PDFObjectives. To examine the internal consistency and predictive validity of a teacher-made post-test administered to developmental math students at Shawnee State University. Teacher-made tests receive little attention among published research due to the perceived lack of generalizability. However, granting more attention to teacher-made tests could help researchers to uncover broader trend within post-secondary institutions in the United States. Methods. Principal component analysis with the varimax rotation was used to examine the factor structure of 18 test-items completed by 171 students. Then, multiple logistic regression models were calculated to determine if the post-test predicted if a student would earn a C or higher in their gateway math course. Age, race, high school GPA, and ACT math score were used as covariates. Results. Three primary domains emerged during Principal Component Analysis, with the suggested names: Algebra, Arithmetic, Linear Equations. The logistic regression models did not indicate that the test was statistically reliable for predicting which students would earn a C or higher in their gateway math course. Introducing age, race, high school GPA, and ACT math score did not have a meaningful impact on any of the models. Conclusions. The test-items used for PCA align with the intended course objectives. The test-items, and by extension the course objectives, do not adequately predict which student’s will earn a final letter grade of C or higher in their gateway math course. Since the course objectives appear reasonable, further research is suggested to investigate whether other variables could better predict student outcomes
Why Do Students Hate Math?: A Comparison of Instructional Strategies
No full textIn the realm of education, there is much evidence to show students’ discomfort with mathematics. Students can find math to be boring and difficult. Because of this, many educators struggle with teaching the subject to their students and connecting them to the content. Research was conducted in a rural high school in Southern Ohio to identify if there is a more superior way to teach the topic of mathematics. This study compared two instructional strategies to analyze whether there is a relationship between how the information is taught with how students perform on exams.One strategy was taught using a more classic approach of direct lecture, while the other executed a more interactive approach to teaching mathematics
