Resettled refugee students\u27 higher education in the United States: The role of parents\u27 highest level of education, family status and language barrier in their academic success
The research confronts quantitative research outcomes on factors that hindered the academic performance of resettled refugee students in the United States. There are many studies about refugees, but we did not find any research about resettled refugee student’s academic performance in the United States. This research will help the audiences, researchers, higher education administrators to know what are the major factors that contribute to the academic performance of the resettled refugee college student in the United States. This research will also be a great reference for researchers who want to research on academic performance and educational background of immigrant students. We used the statistical software package “R” to analyze data. We have used ANOVA, t-test, and Logistic regression to find our results. We found that parents’ educational level, language barriers, and family status play a significant role in hindering the academic performance of resettled refugee students in the United States. Despite the traumatic lives, resettled refugee students are doing as better as American college students in their academic performances. The results of this study suggested that there are some factors that are significantly affecting the GPA score of the resettled refugee students in the United States. But there are multiple ways that are to be followed by individual students and their parents to overcome those factors to improve their academic performance
dentifying Social Equity Gaps within the Math Department of a Community College
Colleges and universities are striving to have their campuses become equitable with students of any socioeconomic class having the capability of being successful. Unfortunately, there are specific classes of students that have noticeably lower success rates in college and, since colleges are a critical link for students to transition from high school to their career fields, this makes their success crucial. Community Colleges render higher education accessible to students at low cost and less prerequisite skills. This leads to higher enrollment of students that are experiencing these gaps in success. Each college must conduct research on the own student body to determine if any class of student is encountering a noticeable difference in success. Colleges also encounter many students that are underprepared in mathematics and must take developmental math courses. It is imperative that students are successful in the developmental math courses or college success is more challenging. Research was conducted at Zane State College with the purpose of identifying social equity differences within the mathematics department and create a model of academic success in mathematics. This is to providie statistical evidence for the college to build upon when making decisions. A forward logistics regression analysis was conducted along with a test of independence for each variable and academic success. Social equity gaps were present in students that are lower income and minority. However, first generation status did not render an equity gap. Developmental math courses exhibited an extremely low level of student success with a 40% success rate. Lastly, dual enrollment students had an extremely high level of success, with a 94% success rate
Predicting Student Success and Achievement in Mathematics at Coldwater High School (Ohio)
This research study was conducted at Coldwater High School in Coldwater, Ohio with the intention of exploring student success and achievement in mathematics. Being a mathematics teacher at the high school, the author of this thesis was motivated to learn how to encourage further student success in the mathematics classroom and what could be done to implement strategies to promote even more success. Data were collected from nearly all of the senior and junior students, including a survey on student attitudes towards mathematics, to analyze and better understand the goals of this study. Some of the collected data would include ACT mathematics scores, GPA, demographic information, and more. There were a couple key research questions to be answered through the use of statistical hypothesis testing. The first of these questions had to deal with analyzing the relationships that existed between student attitudes towards mathematics and student success in mathematics. As expected, there was a positive correlation between the two. The second research question searched for a “formula for success” for students specifically at Coldwater High School utilizing the predictor variables that were gathered in the data collection process. The reader is encouraged to shuffle through the results and summary chapters of this document to find this formula and the statistical process that went into deriving the formula. Statistical tests in this study include t-tests, ANOVA, and backward multiple regression techniques. The results will allow the author to better serve the students at Coldwater. The plan is to discuss with the staff and administration of the high school to determine the best ways of implementing teaching strategies that will promote future student academic success in mathematics
Synthesis of Nickel Diimine Dye Complexes for Use in Solar Cells
In recent years, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) have been studied using various transition metals such as ruthenium, osmium, and platinum as sensitizers. However, these transition-metal dye molecules often require complicated synthetic pathways that can be quite expensive. As a result, this study focuses on using nickel as an alternate inexpensive transition metal with a simpler synthetic pathway. In particular, the study will use nickel diimine complexes as sensitizers for the formation of DSSC. This investigation will include determining the best synthetic route of nickel diimine complexes, Ni(3,3’-dcbpy)qdt, Ni(4,4’-dcbpy)qdt, and Ni(5,5’-dcbpy)qdt where dcbpy = dicarboxy-2,2’-bipyridine (with different steric conformations on the nickel diimine ligands) and qdt = quinoxaline-2,3-dithiolate, and maximizing their corresponding efficiencies

Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which one\u27s body attacks its own pancreas cells. Although the term diabetes is well known, the difference between type 1 and 2 is not well known. This presentation focuses on type 1 diabetes and the lack of knowledge with the new age management technology of the insulin pump in hospitals. Development of standards and protocol for patients with pump therapy and the disease: a conservation to address issues with patient safety for type 1 diabetics with insulin pump therapy is indicated in current nursing practice
The Role of Technology-based Instructions in Improving the Literacy Skills of 7th Grade Language Arts Classroom
In today’s world, the use of technology-based instructions is growing faster than ever. One of the skills a 21st-century student needs is the capability of using technology. There is no shortage of opinion on which is the most effective for classrooms should integrate technology-based instructions, and people hold varying attitudes towards the use of technology. In this study, there will be three different 7th grade Language Arts classrooms. The first classroom only use technology-based instruction, the second only use traditional instructions and the third combine both. What would be examined are students’ improvements on literacy skills and attitude the teachers and students hold on the use of technology by implementing tests, surveys, observations and interviews. The results of tests indicated which classroom of students improved the most on their literacy skills, and the results of surveys, observations and interviews showed teachers’ and students’ attitude towards the use of technology
The Correlation Of Learning Styles and Grades
Learners today are diverse and that is highlighted in the different learning styles students possess. Some of these students learn greatly from the lecture style many social studies teachers implement. However, teaching social studies with a lecture note taking style has been proven to be an ineffective way to communicate information to many students, especially students with IEPs. Many students don’t learn by just sitting and listening to the teacher lecture while they take notes. This was proven during the first and second nine weeks with many kids either failing or coming close to it.
