    No full text
Purpose of the study: Stock markets have demonstrated varying reactions to IMF lending announcements across various economies. Announcements offered by IMF often be perceived negatively by the participants of the stock market, because of stringent conditions accompanied with the loan that may oppose the political and economic agenda of a borrowing nation. Thus, this study intends to investigate the impact of IMF’s announcements about extending loans to Pakistan on the performance of the Stock market in the debt-ridden economy. Methodology: For regular returns from 1997 to 2017, the benchmarking indexes of KSE-100 and 30 were used. Meanwhile, IMF lending arrangements are categorized into three respective dummies (standby, extended credit facility, and extended fund facility). The Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedastic (GARCH) model was used to investigate the effect of IMF’s lending news on the regular stock returns. Main findings: The results show a statistically significant effect of the IMF’s News about lending arrangements on the performance of the stock market in Pakistan. Surprisingly, the negative effect of IMF lending announcements on the performance of the stock market in Pakistan implies that the loans extended by IMF are not professed by speculators as good for the economic performance of the economy. Application of this study: The findings of this study imply that simply extending loans is not a panacea for politically unstable and financially ruined nations. Lending strategies of IMF need to be favourable for the political and economic conditions of a borrowing country. Originality/ Novelty: As for as the novelty is concerned, the study has highlighted the time-varying impact of IMF lending announcements on the performance of the stock market in a financially fragile country where a newborn government facing multiple challenges has made its best effort to avoid borrowing from IMF

    No full text
Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to make a deeper analysis of the parliament of Canada and Pakistan. This research deals with comparing two similar parliamentary systems. The two countries, i.e. Canada and Pakistan were chosen because of their majority electoral system and to a lesser extent, alike political trends. This research analyzed the weaknesses and strengths of both the legislative systems. Method: Data related to this topic has been collected from secondary sources such as reports, journal articles, and books. This research work is analytical as well as descriptive in nature. Qualitative techniques have been applied to investigate the research questions. Main Findings: This study acknowledges that the parliamentary form of government is the most representative and most efficient system of government that is running successfully in different countries. Parliament safeguards the political views of the citizens and thus provides them with all possible opportunities for more participation in the government. It creates a cohesive and strong party system. The main finding to be acquired from this study is that one problem that is common to both nations is provincial imbalance. However, overall it can be said that Canada has accommodated its provinces effectively through its responsible government, democratic system, and granting maximum autonomy. Another factor that is a major problem in Pakistan but not so in Canada is the branches of government overstepping their jurisdiction. Application of the Study: Using the yardstick of the function of legislation and making comparative references with other political systems was very useful in summarizing this research. Whatever weaknesses and criticisms may be discussed the overall fact is that the job done by these parliaments is undoubtedly necessary and useful and it is hoped this study may serve as a guideline for future parliaments to make them more efficient. The Originality of the Study: This research argues that a parliamentary system is a more desirable and efficient system of government than others. This research explains the differences between both these systems. Both the houses of these parliaments provide separate services that require separate investigation and throw further light on the subject

    No full text
Purpose of the Study: This structured literature review looks at Impulse Buying Behaviour in both virtual and brick-and-mortar contexts. The purpose of the study was to identify, evaluate, and synthesize the relevant research results to develop an abstract of current evidence by using unambiguous procedures to find what can consistently be said based on these researchers that can play a role in evidence-based practice. Furthermore, this systematic review aimed to minimize the bias resulting in other methods of reviewing research literature. Methodology: An appropriate sample of papers was collected via a systematic search. The initial stage of a systematic literature review involves identifying the academic papers from EBSCO, Emerald Full text, and Scopus that are most influential and relevant to online impulse buying behaviour. The next step was to refine the results to identify research studies that best match the research objectives. Main Findings: An interesting outcome of this paper has been that virtual impulse buying behaviour is quite similar to that of the offline context. Their mood influences customers when a potential purchase, their traits, and the shopping space (website) where the purchase is happening. The real difference between the virtual and offline context appears to be linked to spatial-temporal factors affected by the constraints of the virtual environment in which the e-retailers operate and impact customer mood Impulse Buying Tendency. Applications of this study: This literature review will help researchers map various approaches regarding the same research topic by bringing together various theoretical viewpoints. This study will also provide evidence of various approaches used by researchers while studying impulse buying behaviour through differentiating distinctive research methods used to respond to the same research questions. Novelty/Originality of this study: For so many years' researchers are trying to find effective approaches to formulate the influencing elements to increase impulse buying. A review of the literature has been done to make the reader understand the elements of impulse buying behaviour regarding offline and online settings. The study also provides the conceptual framework of impulse buying and its factors

SOCIAL MATRIX AND CONSTRUCTION OF GENDER IDENTITY IN NATHANIEL HAWTHORN’S THE SCARLET LETTER

    No full text
Purpose of the study: The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorn, already explored from different perspectives by many researchers, has relevance to the social matrix that how gender identity is constructed in the text. In order to explore this perspective, the study deals with the character of Hester Prynne as how she is deconstructing normative gender. Methodology: For this purpose, the theory of ‘Imitation and Gender Insubordination’ presented by Butler (1993) has been applied. Secondly, the study tries to answer the gender identity of Hester Prynne by using Freudian ‘Identification of gender.’ Lastly, the work is concerned with Hester Prynne’s avoiding the danger of being leper and castaway. The last analysis owes itself to the Freudian understanding of psychoanalysis. Main Findings: The findings show that gender is purely volatile and oscillating and is usually being constructed by feminist narratives, social appropriations, inborn congenital schema, and sexual orientations. Butler’s arguments get augmented in this study through the analysis of a few characters, particularly Hester Prynne’s, and it has indicated that through the application of Butler’s arguments on gender stance that gender is performative and hence, it has no real or inborn value/definitions. Therefore, it is inferred that gender is performative and is socially constructed. Application of this study: This study has implications in literature in general, gender studies, and related fields in particular. Novelty/Originality of this study: Though Nathaniel Hawthorn’s The Scarlet Letter had been written long before that has been explored from different perspectives, the present research is original and new in the sense that it brings social matrix and discusses gender issues in it both from the social and psychological interpretations

    No full text
Purpose of the study: Phonological variation in diphthongs, when spoken as a second or foreign language, is an accepted phenomenon. The diphthongs of English when pronounced by native speakers of Pashto go through certain changes and sometimes, monophthised. The purpose of the present study is to investigate phonological variation, i.e., monophthongisation of English diphthongs. Methodology: For this purpose, 20 Pashto speakers of both soft and hard dialects were taken and they were asked to pronounce the words having the target diphthongs at initial, medial and final position, followed and preceded by voiced and voiceless sounds. PRAAT was used to analyze the data to measure the possible variations in the sounds. Main Findings: The findings show that the phenomenon of monophthongisation of English diphthongs is common in the speaking of native speakers of Pashto. The study further shows that there is the lengthening of some of the sounds and deletion as well in certain contexts. This makes the variety of English spoken by the native speakers of Pashto a separate variety. Applications of this study: This study has applications for English language learners and teachers. The learners and teachers of English can benefit from this research and they can work on the problematic diphthongs that are usually monophthised. In this way, these sounds can be practised and the problems can be rectified. Novelty/Originality of this study: This is an original study where the problematic diphthongs have been considered and researched that how these English diphthongs are monophthised by the native speakers of Pashto making it a distinctive feature of the native Pashto speakers of English

Suggestions for future researchers along with present study limitations have also been discussed. Novelty/Originality of this study: This is empirical research and all the data is based upon natural human behavior without any manipulation

SOCIAL MEDIA ANALYTICS LENS: A STUDY ON CONSUMER PERCEIVED RISK TO SHARE INFORMATION ON SOCIAL MEDIA NETWORKS

    No full text
Purpose of the study: This study focuses on understanding the potential unfavourable social media analytics practices (SMA) and how they may lead to the negative perception of consumer self-disclosure on social media sites and causing market discomfort for people. We also examined a framework regarding the SMA practices, and their impact on the customer’s trust to use social media networks. Methodology: Data were collected from 527 social media users with the help of an online questionnaire. Partial Least Squares Structural equation modeling—PLS-SEM was used using SmartPLS to validate the questionnaire and measure the hypothesized relationships between the constructs. Main Findings: The results show that perceived risk mediates the relationship between the perceived ethicality of social media analytics and the marketing discomfort of the consumers. Moreover, we also found that the negatively perceived ethicality of social media analytics leads to marketing discomfort of the consumers. This negative attitude impacts the consumer’s intention to purchase, interest in the product, and intention to be vulnerable toward the company. Applications of this study: These findings have practical utility for all types of organizations that use social media. This study is general for all social media sites. This study also provides direction for future research, such as managing the personal information of the social media users from being used by the organizations without consumer permission and developing ethical standards to use the consumer information for the marketing strategies. Novelty/Originality of this study: Social media analytics (SMA) gathered data from the social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and blogs, representing a massive room to utilize public data, and these lead towards the ethical concerns of the consumers. For this problem, we studied a complete framework to identify the major outcomes of the PESMA on the consumers' self-disclosure and marketing comfort
