THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PROBLEM BASED LEARNING (PBL) APPROACH VIEWED FROM THE STUDENTS’ MATHEMATICAL CREATIVE THINKING ABILITY
Get PDFGenerally, mathematical competence equips students with logical thinking ability. On the other hand, the mathematical competence is expected to equip students with creative thinking ability. Creative thinking ability is used when a person faces a problem or challenge. Nowadays, there has been a lot of developing approaches that can be used to create ideal learning condition to achieve the learning goals, including improving the mathematical creative thinking ability. One of approaches that can be used is Problem Based Learning (PBL). The purpose of this research was to describe the effectiveness of PBL approach in terms of mathematical creative thinking ability. This was a quasi-experimental reseach. A control class used the conventional approach. The results showed that Problem Based Learning (PBL) was an effective appoach viewed from the mathematical creative thinking ability. Meanwhile, the control class was not effective
The Effect of Teaching Methods and Learning Styles on Students’ English Achievement (An Experimental Study at Junior High School 1 Pasangkayu)
Get PDFThe objectives of the research are to determine the effects of teaching methods (STAD and jigsaw) and learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) on students’ English achievement. This research is an experimental study conducted at Junior High School Pasangkayu in 2014 with 213 sample which is selected stratified-randomly (n = 68). The results of the research are as follow: (1) English achievement of students taught with STAD is better than those of taught with jigsaw; (2) there is no significant difference in English achievement among visual, auditory, and kinesthetic students; (3) there is any significant effect of interaction among teaching method and learning styles on students’ learning English achievement. The research also find out that for visual students, studying English achievement of students taught with STAD is better than that of students taught with jigsaw; for auditory students, learning English achievement of students taught with jigsaw is better than that of students taught with STAD; and for kinesthetic students, English achievement of students taught with STAD is better than that of students taught with jigsaw. To sum up, STAD is more effective than jigsaw in improving students’ English achievement. STAD is suitable to improve English achievement of visual and kinesthetic students, and jigsaw is suitable to improve English achievement of auditory students
Improving Students Character Using Fairy Tales

Educational goals in Indonesia shape the noble character of students. To realize that, fairytale learning is one of them that can be used. It examines the values contained in fairy tales, so research is conducted. The form of this research is qualitative, and the research method is a description. Data collection techniques study documents. Fairy tales that are used as data sources accessed on the internet and storybooks. The sociology of literature approach is used to analyze data. Fairy tale oral literature has values that can be used to instill positive character in students. The values that are reflected in the fairy tales studied are the values of caring for the environment, thinking wisely before acting, the greedy nature of bringing disaster. The activity of appreciating fairy tales is closely related to training to sharpen feelings, reasoning, and imagination, as well as sensitivity to society, culture and the environment. Students are expected to be able to enjoy, appreciate, understand, and utilize literary works to develop their personality, broaden their horizons, and improve their knowledge and language skills. With a lot of reading literary works will help students become cultured humans who are responsive to noble values in social life. Students who are cultured are expected to be great human beings but still simple, free but self-controlled, strong but full of tenderness
SMART e-Cons: an effort to Expand Educational Access for Gersik Village Communities
Get PDFThe lack of residents’ awareness to advance their study to University in the border area of Jagoi Babang District, West Kalimantan, Indonesia made the pupils around the border area almost less educate or stagnant both in the numbers and quality of their education. There are many residents of the high school age was drop out or did not advance their school to university level. But ironically, almost all resident has android cellphone but it functional as calling and messaging only.This program offers an alternate solution for local resident to get access of higher education information by using their cellphones. This program called ad SMART e-Cons. This was private service that provide by our team for facilitate the local residents’ curiosity about process in higher education. Most of the local pupils has working as farmer, as cotter so it has been most difficulties for us to gather all of them in one time. Therefore, from 138 families only there are 34 family’s members had been volunteer for this program. And this was reasoning why our team has decided to deliver the SMART e-Cons sheets to their house (all of residents) include volunteer that present in main session.This program was implemented by using the method of coordination, implementation to reporting. These activities can also contribute to increase information about the importance of education in university which certainly has many entry channels including through scholarships.This program’s result that 53% resident able to access the link and able to give feedback for the team, 50% able to access the link only, and 100% resident able to give feedback only (doesn’t know to click the link).Finally, our purpose to give a brief explanation for local residents of Gersik Village about entrances university both in country and overseas university without worries about tuitions fee and sort of kinds
Implementation of Problem-Based Learning Model by Speak and Draw Techniques to Improve the Students’ Understanding Ability on the Explanation Text
Get PDFThis study aims to improve the students’ understanding ability on the explanation text after being implemented a problem-based learning model by speak and draw techniques. This study was a classroom action research that was composed of two cycles, each cycle consisting of four stages, namely the planning stage, the implementation of the action stage, the observation stage, and the reflection stage. This study was conducted on students of class XI MIPA7 on the 2nd semester of the academic year 2018/2019 in SMA Negeri 1 Wirosari, Wirosari District, Grobogan. The data collection technique was done through observation, questionnaires, and tests. The data collection instrument was done by using observation sheets, documentation, and a written test. The validity of this study was done by using content validity and construct validity. The results showed that the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning model by Speak And Draw techniques can improve the students’ understanding ability on the explanation text with the average value of students’ daily test who complete in Cycle I was 72.19 into 81.81 in Cycle II. The completeness percentage of the average value in Cycle I was 69% into 94% in Cycle II
PENGARUH STRATEGI PEMBELAJARAN SUPERITEM TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN PEMECAHAN MATEMATIS SISWA PADA MATERI PtLSV KELAS VII SMP NEGERI 8 SINGKAWANG

Secara khusus penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui:1) Pengaruh Strategi Pembelajaran Superitem Terhadap Kemampuan Pemecahan Masalah Matematis Siswa pada Materi Pertidaksamaan Linear Satu Variabel Kelas VII, 2) untuk mengetahui seberapa besar pengaruh strategi pembelajaran superitem pada materi pertidaksamaan linear satu variabel kelas VII, 3) untuk mengetahui aktivitas belajar siswa dengan menggunakan strategi superitem menjadi aktif, 4) untuk mengetahui minat siswa terhadap strategi pembelajaran superitem tergolong baik. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif, bentuk penelitian the nonequivalent posstest-only control group design. Populasi penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII yang terdiri dari lima kelas. Sampel penelitian diambil menggunakan sampling jenuh maka didapat kelas VII A dengan jumlah siswa yaitu 26 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VII B dengan jumlah siswa yaitu 26 siswa sebagai kelas kontrol. Hasil perhitungan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa dengan menggunakan Uji independen sampel t-test terdapat perbedaan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa antara kelas eksperimen dengan menggunakan strategi pembelajaran superitem dan kelas kontrol yang diberikan model pembelajaran langsung. Strategi pembelajaran superitem berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa dengan kriteria tinggi dengan menggunakan perhitungan Effect Size. Lembar observasi aktivitas belajar siswa dengan strategi pembelajaran superitem menggunakan perhitungan persentase frekuensi aktivitas. Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya peningkatan aktivitas belajar siswa, di mana pada pertemuan pertama diperoleh persentasenya sebesar 84,54% dan pertemuan kedua sebesar 88,61% dengan kriteria sangat aktif. Hasil analisis lembar angket strategi pembelajaran superitem dengan kriteria sangat tinggi. Kata Kunci : Superitem, kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa, aktivitas, minat
EFEKTIVITAS MODEL PEMBELAJARAN TALKING STICK TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN KOMUNIKASI MATEMATIS SISWA PADA POKOK BAHASAN KUBUS DAN BALOK
Get PDFPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk: 1) mengetahui efektivitas model pembelajaran Talking Stick terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa 2) untuk mengetahui ketuntasan belajar siswa 3) untuk mengidentifikasi aktivitas siswa melalui model pembelajaran Talking Stick 4) untuk mengidentifikasi motivasi belajar siswa terhadap model pembelajaran Talking Stick. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kelas VIII SMP Torsina 1 Singkawang dengan dengan menggunakan metode eksperimen semu dengan desain Pretest Posttest Control Group Design. Sampel penelitian diambil dengan teknik Sampling Jenuh. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan untuk mengetahui perbedaan peningkatan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa di kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen yaitu dengan menggunakan uji-t, untuk mengetahui aktivitas siswa yaitu dengan menggunakan persentase aktivitas siswa per indikator dan untuk mengetahui motivasi belajar siswa menggunakan rata-rata dari skor angket yang diberikan. Berdasarkan analisis data yang diperoleh bahwa , sehingga terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa di kelas kontrol dan di kelas eksperimen pada materi kubus dan balok. Untuk ketuntasan hasil belajar yaitu 70,8 > 59,6. Untuk KKM 68, hal ini menunjukkan bahwa kelas kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dari pada KKM kelas kontrol yaitu 70,8 > 68. Sehingga kelas eksperimen ketuntasan belajar siswa dikategorikan tuntas. Rata-rata aktivitas siswa sebesar 80,26%, dengan kategori aktif. Untuk motivasi diperoleh rata-rata jumlah skor total seluruh indikator motivasi belajar sebesar 81,25 dengan kategori tinggi. Sehingga, model pembelajaran talking stick untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa efektif dalam pembelajaran pada pokok bahasan kubus dan balok
Nilai Sosial Budaya dalam Novel Namaku Teweraut Karya Ani Sekarningsih Pendekatan Antropologi Sastra
Get PDFTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi tentang nilai sosial budaya dengan pendekatan antropologi yang ditinjau dari kutipan terdapat dalam novel Namaku Teweraut karya Ani Sekarningsih. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode mendeskripsikan data secara mendalam. Data dikumpulkan melalui tahapan pembacaan novel secara seksama, membuat sinopsis, mengklasifikasikan data, menafsirkan hasil analisis data, mengkonfirmasi hasil analisis dan tafsiran kepada ahli satra, dan mendeskripsikan bagian yang telah dianalisis secara terperinci. Analisis dan interpretasi data menunjukkan bahwa: 1) Nilai sosial aspek pengetahuan paling mendominasi, terdapat keberagaman flora, fauna yang ada di suku Asmat. Sifat tokoh utama memberikan pesa moral agar pembaca memiliki watak hidup sederhana, gigih, sabar, berpikir maju, praktis, berpendirian teguh, rajin, cinta lingkungan, cinta tanah air, waspada, rendah hati, peka, cerdas, dan keratif. 2) Nilai sosial aspek sistem organisasi memiliki hubungan, asosiasi, dan kesatuan hidup yang baik di suku Asmat dan dengan suku yang lain. Musyawarah dilakukan sebelum mengadakan upacara, mengambil keputusan, dan menetapkan aturan. 3) nilai sosial aspek religi tidak hanya animisme tetapi suku Asmat menyakini agama kristen. 4) nilai sosial aspek kesenian suku Asmat memiliki kreativitas yang tinggi dalam kesenian,yaitu: seni ukir, seni tari, seni, menyanyi, dan seni musik. Hal tersebut ditunjukkan pada setiap prosesi upacara yang dilakukan.
Character Education Strengthening of Students Through The Mathematical Disposition Strategy on Statistics Elementary
Get PDFThis study aims to improve the strengthening of student character education through a mathematical disposition strategy in Elementary Statistics. The sample of this study was 30 students of the 3rd semester of Biology Education. The research method used was experimental and the research firm was quasi-experimental. Data collection techniques are measurement techniques, namely initial ability tests and mathematical disposition scales. The results of this study indicate that character education can be enhanced or strengthened by a mathematical disposition strategy. That is by increasing high confidence in solving problems, not easily discouraged and asking questions, having prepared before starting learning such as reading the material or other references, knowing the role of mathematics related with everyday life and knowing that success in mathematics subjects can support progress in other disciplines
