A Pentecostal Perspective on Theological Implications of the Verbal Inspiration of Scripture
Full text linkThe doctrine of the inspiration of the Bible is commonly affirmed in the Pentecostal tradition. For the most part, Pentecostal statements regarding Scripture have parroted the views Evangelicalism that focus attention on infallibility and inerrancy. This article suggests that a Pentecostal theology of inspiration is needed that takes into account Pentecostalism’s epistemology, theology of the Holy Spirit, and understanding of prophecy. Utilizing a method that integrates theological interpretation and grammatical exegesis, this study suggests six theological maxims that can be inferred from a Pentecostal perspective on the doctrine of inspiration. These six points are offered as starting points for discussion and for the development of a robust theology of inspiration
Refleksi Pelayanan Yesus dalam Matius 14:13-21 Melalui Program-program di Pusat Pengembangan Anak
Full text linkAbstract. This study aimed to describe the role of the Child Development Center (PPA) as a reflection of Jesus' ministry as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew 14:13-21. This study was motivated by the decreasing participation of children in PPA programs, which ultimately has implications for the spiritual aspects of children. The method in this study is descriptive qualitative. The subjects were adolescent students at PPA IO 0933 "Tresno Putro" Surakarta. The results of the study showed that the lack of children's activity in participating in PPA programs was because the existing programs were considered no longer relevant to the needs of children. Programs that previously targeted the fulfillment of physical needs have been largely discontinued. Thus, it can be concluded that as in Jesus' ministry, the fulfillment of physical needs is important before being able to touch spiritual needs.Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan peran Pusat Pengembangan Anak (PPA) sebagai refleksi atas pelayanan Yesus yang tercatat dalam Injil Matius 14:13-21. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh makin rendahnya partisipasi anak-anak dalam program-program PPA, yang pada akhirnya berimplikasi pada aspek kerohanian anak-anak. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah diskriptif kualitatif. Subjek yang dituju adalah siswa-siswi remaja di PPA IO 0933 “Tresno Putro” Surakarta. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kekurangaktifan anak-anak dalam mengikuti program-program PPA adalah oleh karena program-program yang ada dianggap tidak lagi relevan dengan kebutuhan anak-anak. Program-program yang sebelumnya banyak menyasar pemenuhan kebutuhan jasmani telah banyak yang tidak lagi diselenggarakan. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa sebagaimana dalam pelayanan Yesus, pemenuhan kebutuhan jasman menjadi hal yang penting sebelum dapat menyentuh kebutuhan rohani
Pela dan Perjamuan Kudus dalam Lensa Teologi Sakramental Susan Ross

This article discussed the differences of pela as a Moluccan cultural rite and Holly Supper as a Christian rites in the reality of Islam-Christian reconciliation in Maluku based on sacramental theology view of Susan Ross. In Maluku, both Islam and Christian community attack each other due to the distrust that arise from a conflict that happened in 1999. Both Holly Supper, as a Christian rite, and pela, as a Moluccan sacred cultural rite, offeres the uniqueness of the reconciliation process. Using Susan Ross’ perspective on sacramental theology, pela and the Holly Supper could be developed to a new sacred rite that embraces both Christian and Islam community to maintain the reconciliation in Maluku without eliminating the theological perspective on how God works in Moluccan society.Abstrak. Artikel ini mendiskusikan perbedaan pela sebagai ritus budaya Maluku dan Perjamuan Kudus sebagai ritus Kristen dalam rekonsiliasi Islam-Kristen di Maluku melalui lensa teologi sakramental Susan Ross. Di Maluku, kelompok Islam dan Kristen saling menyerang sebagai akibat dari adanya konflik 1999. Baik Perjamuan Kudus maupun pela menawarkan keunikan proses rekonsiliasi. Dengan menelisik cara berpikir sakramental Susan Ross, pela dan Perjamuan Kudus dapat dikembangkan menjadi ritus baru dapat merangkul komunitas Kristen dan Islam dalam menjaga stabilitas rekonsiliasi tanpa mengurangi perspektif teologi bagaimana Allah bekerja dalam komunitas Maluku
#ChurchToo, Kekerasan Seksual di Gereja dan Penguatan Komunitas

The hashtag movement like #ChurchToo has become one of the ways for sexual violence survivors to express their experiences of sexual violence they have experienced in the church. #ChurchToo has an influence not only on the survivors' attitudes but also on the organizational and church's community. However, not all victims or survivors of sexual violence in the church can use this hashtag movement. The strong power relation between perpetrators as priests or clergy and victim make it difficult for victims to speak out. Through a literature review method, it is evident that the #ChurchToo hashtag movement does not have a holistic and transformative impact on preventing sexual violence in the church. This analysis suggests that for the prevention of sexual violence, the church organization cannot rely solely on one approach such as #ChurchToo. Other approaches need to be developed, such as strengthening the capacity of communities or congregations that are more contextual for preventing sexual violence in the church.Abstrak. Gerakan tagar seperti #ChurchToo telah menjadi salah satu cara penyintas kekerasan seksual mengungkapkan pengalaman dan bentuk-bentuk kekerasan seksual yang dialaminya di gereja. #ChurchToo memiliki pengaruh bukan saja terhadap sikap penyintas tetapi juga terhadap sikap gereja secara organisasi dan komunitasnya. Namun tidak semua korban atau penyintas kekerasan seksual di gereja dapat menggunakan gerakan tagar ini. Relasi kuasa yang kuat antara pelaku sebagai pendeta atau klerus dengan korban membuat korban tak mudah untuk berbicara. Dengan metode literatur review, terlihat bahwa gerakan tagar #ChurchToo tidak berdampak secara holistik dan transformatif untuk pencegahan kekerasan seksual di gereja. Hasil analisa ini menunjukkan bahwa untuk pencegahan kekerasan seksual, gereja secara organisasi tidak dapat menggunakan satu pendekatan seperti #ChurchToo saja. Perlu pula dikembangkan pendekatan lainnya, seperti penguatan kapasitas komunitas atau jemaat yang lebih kontekstual untuk langkah-langkah pencegahan kekerasan seksual di gereja
Biblical Perspective and Educational Domains in Sex Education: Addressing Gaps in Indonesian Sex Education
Full text linkIn Indonesia, sex education is delivered in public high schools as part of the biology curriculum and under the topic of reproductive health. According to the government’s view, when schools teach students properly about reproductive health, they will have a good understanding of their sexuality. Therefore, there is no need to have any further sexual education outside of the school curriculum. However, about half of the teenagers living in major cities are involved in premarital sex, and the rate of teen abortion and HIV infections is high. This article examined the implementation of sexual education in public high schools in Indonesia using a combination of qualitative and quantitative research. The survey was done on a sample of 416 students from 30 provinces and 66 cities in Indonesia. The finding support a particular approach to sex education that incorporates cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning aspects of educational taxonomy. We find that it is essential to develop a separate sex education module in addition to the current reproductive health topic taught in biology to encourage students to practice abstinence, rather than just teaching reproductive health
Saved by Faith Not Your Body: Towards The Theology of Disability
Full text linkThis article describes that the perfection of God’s creation was guaranteed by faith, must be hold and lived in the life of the believers. Physical weakness (difable) is not a condition cause decreasing the perfection of God’s creation. Difable is not decreasing or weakening the existence and essence of human being as the body of Christ which was loved and saved by the blood of Christ. This article used the library research in theology, explored the love of God in the life of human being. The result showed that the church must develop the ministries of educating and empowering disable people (people with the special need). They are perfect as the body of Christ because the God itself is perfect. God is perfect so the creation is perfect too. Human being was perfected by the love of God
Apakah Janji Langit Baru dan Bumi Baru sudah Ditepati? Analisis Historis Yesaya 65:17-25

The theologians’ views (especially those who come from the patristic view) regarding the concept of the New Heaven and New Earth (Isa. 65:17-25), come to the conclusion that the fulfillment of the promise is with the coming of a new heaven and a new earth that will replace the recent heaven and earth. Through the historical interpretation of the text, I try to show the historical meaning and purpose of the concept. I focus this research on the history of the text by considering the context of the people as recipients of the core message of the book of Isaiah and its subsequent influence. The context of the recipients or initial readers of the text is the basis for the analysis in this study. I argue that the prioritization of the reconstruction of the Temple after the Babylonian exile as a focal point as well as a sign of God's presence blessing and fulfilling His promises by realizing the vision of the promised New Heaven and New Earth. Which means that the promise of the New Heaven and New Earth has been fulfilled.Abstrak. Pandangan para teolog (terutama yang berangkat dari pandangan kaum patristik) terkait konsep Langit Baru dan Bumi Baru (Yes. 65:17-25), sampai pada kesimpulan penantian penggenapan janji tersebut dengan hadirnya langit baru dan bumi baru kelak yang menggantikan langit dan bumi yang lama. Melalui tafsir historis teks, saya berupaya memperlihatkan makna dan tujuan awal konsep tersebut. Saya memfokuskan penelitian ini atas sejarah teks dengan melihat konteks dari sudut keberadaan umat selaku penerima pesan inti kitab Yesaya tersebut dan pengaruh setelahnya. Konteks penerima atau pembaca awal teks tersebut menjadi dasar analisis pada kajian ini. Saya berargumen bahwa pengutamaan pembangunan kembali Bait Suci pascapembuangan Babel sebagai titik fokus sekaligus tanda kehadiran Tuhan memberkati dan memenuhi janji-janji-Nya dengan mewujudkan visi Langit Baru dan Bumi Baru yang dijanjikan itu. Gereja sebagai “Casta Meretrix” menurut Hans Urs von Balthasar
Full text linkAbstract. The holiness of the Church, in the Scripture and magisterium, could be explained in its depiction as the bride of Christ. With the same depiction, Hans Urs von Balthasar was observantly concerned with the sins of the Church as summarized in his essay, “Casta Meretrix.” This research is a literature study with a historical-critical approach, seeking to explore Balthasar's perspective and its novelty. The study found a new angle offered by Balthasar in understanding the reality of the sinful Church, which centered on the figure and saving action of Jesus Christ, the Bridegroom. Balthasar's view influenced the renewal of the Church in real life, especially during the pontificate of Pope John Paul II. The Church confessed and asked for forgiveness for sins that have been committed as the way of the cross. Finally, we offer two antinomies to understand the nature of the Church. At the same time, the Church: is made up of sinners, but is always called to holiness; and she is historical on earth, but seeks her holiness in union with God in heaven.Abstrak. Kodrat Gereja yang kudus, dalam Kitab Suci dan ajaran resmi Gereja, dapat dijelaskan dalam penggambarannya sebagai mempelai Kristus. Dengan penggambaran yang sama, secara jeli Hans Urs von Balthasar menaruh perhatian pada dosa-dosa Gereja sebagaimana terangkum dalam esainya, “Casta Meretrix.” Kajian ini, dengan metode studi pustaka dan pendekatan historis-kritis, berusaha menggali pandangan Balthasar beserta kebaruannya. Studi ini menemukan cara pandang baru yang ditawarkan Balthasar dalam memahami realitas Gereja yang berdosa, yakni berfokus pada figur dan tindakan penyelamatan Yesus Kristus, Sang Pengantin Laki-laki. Pandangan Balthasar berpengaruh pada pembaruan Gereja secara real, secara khusus pada masa pontifikat Paus Yohanes Paulus II. Gereja melakukan pengakuan dan permohonan pengampunan atas dosa-dosa yang pernah dilakukan sebagai sebuah jalan salib. Akhirnya, kami menawarkan dua antinomi untuk memahami kodrat Gereja. Pada saat bersamaan Gereja: terdiri atas orang-orang berdosa, tetapi selalu dipanggil menuju kekudusan; dan ia menyejarah di dunia, tetapi berusaha mengusahakan kesuciannya dalam kesatuan dengan Allah di surga
Pengaruh Aliran Filsafat Barat Pasca-1800 Terhadap Evolusi Pemikiran Pendidikan Agama Kristen di Era Kontemporer

The main objective of this research is to understand the integration between theological and philosophical thinking in Christian Religious Education (CRE), ensuring its relevance and effectiveness in the modern era, and gaining a deep understanding of how contemporary philosophical thinking influences and refines current CRE approaches. In this qualitative research, a literature review method is employed to comprehend the interaction between post-1800 Western philosophy and theological thinking in the context of CRE. The result showed that after 1800, Western philosophy challenged fundamental concepts of truth and Christianity. Therefore, CRE should serve as a bridge between tradition and modernity. CRE has the responsibility to uphold its teachings while engaging in dialogue with philosophy. Through an interdisciplinary approach, CRE must be dynamic and adaptive, maintaining its relevance in the modern era. This underscores the importance of synthesizing faith and reason in education.Abstrak. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memahami integrasi antara pemikiran teologis dan filosofis dalam Pendidikan Agama Kristen (PAK), memastikan relevansi dan efektivitasnya di era modern, serta memahami pengaruh pemikiran filosofis kontemporer terhadap pendekatan PAK saat ini. Metode kajian literatur digunakan untuk meneliti interaksi antara filsafat Barat pasca-1800 dan pemikiran teologis dalam PAK. Hasilnya, filsafat Barat pasca-1800 menantang konsep dasar kebenaran dan kekristenan. Oleh karena itu, PAK berperan sebagai jembatan antara tradisi dan modernitas melalui diskusi aktif antara filsafat dan teologi. PAK harus bersikap dinamis dan adaptif, menjaga relevansinya dengan mempertahankan ajarannya sambil terus berdialog dengan filsafat. Kontribusi Pesta Gotilon Masyarakat Batak Toba pada Keberhasilan Pelaksanaan Tri Tugas Gereja

The purpose of this study is to explain how the Gotilon festival held by the Huria Kristen Indonesia (HKI) Churches throughout North Sumatra contributes to the implementation of the Three Tasks of the Church. The Gotilon party itself is a traditional festival of the Batak Toba people when celebrating the harvest. The HKI churches throughout North Sumatra have so far included this party as one of the church program. The research method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method through direct observation of the Gotilon festival that took place at the HKI Panei Tongah Church, Panei District, Simalungun Regency. The result of the study revealed that only through this Gotilon festival, the implementation marturia, koinonia, and diaconia can be carried out collaboratively and unite the members of the church congregation.Abstrak. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan bagaimana pesta Gotilon yang diselenggarakan oleh Gereja-gereja Huria Kristen Indonesia (HKI) se-Sumatera Utara berkontribusi dalam pelaksanaan Tri Tugas Gereja. Pesta Gotilon sendiri adalah merupakan pesta adat masyarakat Batak Toba ketika merayakan hasil panenan. Gereja-gereja HKI se-Sumatera Utara selama ini telah memasukkan pesta ini sebagai salah satu kegiatan gerejawi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif melalui pengamatan langsung atas kegiatan pesta Gotilon yang berlangsung di Gereja HKI Panei Tongah, Kecamatan Panei, Kabupaten Simalungun. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa hanya melalui pesta Gotilon ini pelaksanaan Tri Tugas Gereja, yaitu: marturia, koinonia, dan diakonia dapat dilaksanakan secara kolaboratif dan mempersatukan anggota-anggota jemaat gereja
