Method of Using Blockchain for Hardware Development Process
No full textModern microprocessors contain many millions of gates and finding any hidden malicious Hardware Trojan (HT) is difficult. Additionally, HTs may not need any additional external input pins to activate. Multiple solutions have been proposed to find these HTs, but none of these solutions have promising result due to their limitations. Moreover, pre-silicon verification and post-silicon testing don’t address the issue of HTs. In this thesis we present a methodology based on blockchain technology to limit the possibility of inserting HTs into the design. Blockchain based technology limits the opportunity for insertion of HT, avoiding them in the design and fabrication process. We proposed a solution by monitoring hardware development process files, and maintaining integrity and trustful relationship using encryption and smart contracts in a blockchain network

The perception of support services for African American male student-athletes at a Division I university
No full textThe purpose of this qualitative study was to explore perceptions of the influences of student support services, and other factors that contributed to African American male football players’ ultimate success in academics, at a public Division I institution. The qualitative study used online interviews, archival data, and contextual information. The researcher interviewed an associate athletic director, academic advisor, learning specialist, tutor coordinator, tutor, two mentors and personal experiences from 12 student-athletes to provide an understanding regarding support services assisting with student-athletes’ academics. The study focused on the evolving themes between the support service staff and student-athletes which consisted of the most important themes: (a) Recruiting all-around student-athletes with effective communication, (b) Hiring more support service staff (more staff and more diverse staff members, (c) Having trained support staff that can work with student-athletes with disabilities such as various learning disabilities and providing accommodations, and (d) Additional resources available to assist student-athletes with mental health issues. Through interviews from the support staff and African-American male student-athletes, the researcher was able to gain important data that has the potential to improve support services at division I institutions for African-American male student-athletes

The influence of social capital on economically disadvantaged students’ enrollment in advanced mathematics courses
No full textAn indicator of college readiness is the participation in advanced courses in junior high school. The purpose of this mixed methods study is to examine the social capital of 7th and 8th grade students enrolled in advanced mathematics courses. This study examined junior high student perspectives in the areas of attitude toward college, teacher expectations and interactions, college readiness, school-wide support, and parental engagement. Additionally, interviews were conducted to examine the impact of social capital on their advanced mathematics course experience related to post-secondary readiness and support from school faculty. Data were collected from a purposefully matched sample of 7th and 8th grade students enrolled in advanced mathematics. The participants were individually matched by economic status, gender, and ethnicity. The matched sample consisted of 66 economically disadvantaged students in advanced mathematics courses and 66 non-economically disadvantaged students in advanced mathematics courses. Twenty-four students participated in a focus group session to better understand junior high school experiences. The findings in this study indicate that, overall, advanced mathematics students in both socioeconomic groups have comparable perspectives of their junior high school experiences related to attitude towards college, teacher expectations and interactions, college readiness, school-wide support, and parental engagement. Economically disadvantaged students do not feel less prepared than their counterparts enrolled in AP courses. The focus group data revealed students felt their teachers were instrumental in assisting them with the course selection process. The students in the focus group spoke about the influence of their peers in selecting courses. The students also pointed to the importance of participating in extracurricular activities as a way to round out their junior high school experiences
