This subseries consists of documentation related to choosing a contractor for Shuttle Processing at the Cape. It addresses issues involved in moving from a test mode of operations with the Shuttle into an operations mode. The first run of reports consist of late 1970s management analyses of Shuttle operations. The documents culminate with a July 1982 briefing to the NASA Administrator on the Shuttle Processing Contract. The documents are arranged with a run of reports and presentations preceding a run of subject files and correspondence. The first three boxes contain reports and presentations organized by date. The final two boxes contain correspondence folders and are also arranged chronologically. Dates included in the subseries are July 1976 through June 1983

Inventory of Shuttle Operational Data Books

    Get PDF
The Shuttle Operational Data Book was created in 1973 as a "shuttle data exchange system ... to provide an authenticated source of data to support studies, analyses and mission planning activities." The current subseries was acquired in 1990 from Jim Mistrot of the Flight Data Office and includes all the information current at that time. Amendments are added as received. In addition, earlier iterations are sought and added to the collection when available. The documents are organized by volume number. There are four volumes and within each volume the earliest iterations are filed first. Amendments are filed behind each volume and are organized by amendment number. The subseries consists of 6 1/2 linear feet of material

The influence of private contributions in public education: An examination of education foundations

    No full text
The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to examine the influence of private contributions from education foundations in public education. This study included an analysis of archival data from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Texas Education Agency (TEA), and organizational websites from a purposeful sample of 256 Texas school districts identified as having a supporting education foundation with gross revenue of over $50,000. A purposeful sample of 15 district superintendents were also interviewed in an effort to provide more in-depth understanding of the perceptions regarding private contributions in public education and the influence of education foundations on their school districts. The quantitative data were analyzed using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlations (r) and Kruskal-Wallis test (χ2), while the qualitative data obtained from superintendent interviews were analyzed using an inductive coding process. Quantitative analysis indicated the amount of private revenue generated by education foundations is correlated most consistently with the resources already residing within the organization, school district, and community (i.e., organizational longevity, district size and location, and community wealth) rather than the support of government (i.e., public funding) or even key measures of the school district (i.e., accountability rating and racial/ethnic diversity). Qualitative analysis indicated most school districts seek external revenue to supplement district funding using common methods and strategies, including private revenue generated by education foundations; however, the majority of superintendents stated that private contributions are overall nominal and an insufficient substitution for funding provided by the government. On the other hand, the findings also demonstrated that these organizations and their efforts contribute nonfinancial benefits to school districts, including positive morale, community engagement, and advocacy. Lastly, the findings concluded that paid staff, strong board composition, district alignment, and superintendent involvement are key factors for successful education foundations

    Dearest Rhia

    No full text
Dearest Rhia is an autoethnographic documentary film that explores whether humans have psychic abilities. It places the researcher (myself) as the subject of this autoethnographic documentary, defined as a type of self-narrative that situates the self in a social framework (Narayan, 2006). The multidisciplinary character of this investigation focuses on the topic of spiritual awakening of psychic abilities. Researchers use the autoethnographic study approach to examine subjectiveness and personal experiences, seeing the self as “another” while highlighting concerns (Strang, 2019). The uniqueness of this project is expressed through the choice of topic (spiritual awakening of psychic abilities) and method of distribution (TikTok miniseries). The social media application TikTok has brought virality to many topics, including spirituality. With the increased awareness of spirituality and bringing like-minded individuals together, many TikTok influencers believe the theory that all humans have psychic abilities. These spiritual influencers will share this theory with their followers via TikTok videos. As the researcher, I was interested in learning if I, myself, had psychic abilities because I had been told in previous psychic readings that I have these abilities, or was I influenced by the TikTok algorithm to believe I have psychic abilities? The purpose of Dearest Rhia is to explore and self-reflect if I, Sophie Mariah Francey, have psychic abilities, or am I only being highly influenced by media (and the media’s influencers) promoting the theory that humans have psychic abilities? This autoethnographic documentary uses storytelling, graphics, research, training courses, experimentation, and expert interviews to accomplish its task

    No full text
This subseries contains agenda, preparation material, and meeting notes from a short series of talks held in 1977 and 1978 with the Soviet Academy of Science regarding a possible docking mission between a Space Shuttle and Soviet Salyut spacecraft. The Phase B documents consist of the Source Evaluation Board file, SEB Business Management documents, statements of work, and study control document, in that order. The source evaluation board files were left in the order received, and within the folder, are filed by tab numbers. An index to the tabs is the first document in the folder. The business management documents were filed chronologically since the tab system used with those documents was less complete. These documents were culled from the Procurement files received from the Building 1 vault
