StichwörterOdergebiet, Steppenrasen, Carabidae, Staphylinidae, Araneae, Bewertung, Naturschutz. The area around Lebus is remarkable for the occurrence of numerous xerothermophile species, as well as for its faunistic value in providing many first records and records of rediscovered species. Some of these reach the northern or western edge of their range in the Oder Region. During the research period 1198 species of arthropods were recorded on 20 sampling areas in the Oderberge Nature Reserve. The degree of endangerment of selected species and types of habitat is indicated. The synbiological behaviour of Meloidae species with respect to the species-rich fauna of Hymenoptera (determined by the habitat structure, partly sparse vegetation, and loess content of the soil on the slopes of the Oder Valley) is described and characteristic combinations of species presented in exemplary fashion for selected habitats. The inventory of beetles for the area is nearly unaltered since 1930. An evaluation of the habitats for the purposes of nature conservation is presented. The subcontinental steppe-grasslands of the Oder Valley slopes and the sections of banks of the Oder without dams are identified as areas of the highest value. Recommendations are made for methods of management which will help protect them.KeywordsOdergebiet, Steppenrasen, Carabidae, Staphylinidae, Araneae, Bewertung, Naturschutz

Reasons are summarised for the very different levels achieved in research on the distribution of insect orders occurring in Central Europe. Adequate information exists for only approximately just over one third of all species. A major part of the orders are at present barely being investigated, or not being worked on at all, e.g. the Protura, Diplura, Psocoptera, Phthiraptera, Sternorrhyncha, Siphonaptera, large subgroups of the Hymenoptera and Diptera. Even in the Lepidoptera and Coleoptera some families are hardly being studied, a fact which is often overlooked
On the Italian species of Drusilla Leach, 1819, with a note on D. taygetana Assing (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae, Aleocharinae).
StichwörterColeoptera, Staphylinidae, Aleocharinae, Drusilla, Italy, Greece, taxonomy, new records, key to species, distribution.Nomenklatorische Handlungenitalica (Bernhauer, 1903) (Drusilla), Lectotype described as Astilbus italicusThe Italian representatives of the aleocharine genus Drusilla Leach, 1819 are revised. Three species are recognised; the presence of a fourth species, D. erichsoni (Peyron, 1857), in Italy is doubtful. The enormous variation of external characters and the spermatheca of D. italica (Bernhauer, 1903) is described, illustrated, and discussed. It is interpreted as clinal rather than interspecific or intersubspecific variation. Based on examined records, the distributions are mapped. A key to species is provided.
StichwörterOdonata, subspecies, colour variety, distribution, sex dimorphism, Eastern Europe.A dark-winged female of Calopteryx splendens was observed on 16.07.1995 on the Issel near Wesel through binoculars and recorded photographically (Fig. 1). It was a singleton amongst hundreds with the typical greenish-hyaline wings. Females with extensively dark wings are meant to be typical for the East European subspecies ancilla (Selys, 1853; "race de Prusse" from East Prussia according to Selys & Hagen, 1854), but recent data or photographic documentation of such specimens are hardly to be found in German language literature. In the majority of current identification works, dark-winged females, which at first glance resemble the male of C. virgo, are not included. The male of ancilla is characterized by the blue band on the wings reaching proximally much further than the nodus and distally mostly nearly or entirely to the wingtip (Fig. 2). A tendency towards this is to be observed in N. Germany (increasing from West to East) (Figs 3-4). Contrarily the dark colour of the wings in the few known females is of quite constant extent (as in Fig. 1). This speaks for a recessive-dominant "Yes-No" mechanism, which also explains the rarity in the transitional zone. There however remains a large deficit on the taxonomic and geographic delimitation of the subspecies. This contribution is to draw awareness to the dark-winged female form and to encourage monitoring of ancilla, particularly in the Oder / Neiße region and further east. Also included is a critical discussion of the terms "race" and of "andromorph / androchrome" for such colour forms, a remark on the value of molecular genetics for phylogenetic classification and the nomenclatural problems attached to ssp. ancilla in north-central Europe.KeywordsOdonata, subspecies, colour variety, distribution, sex dimorphism, Eastern Europe
