Juxtocellar Structures in Euglossine Bees: A New Character for Corbiculate Studies (Hymenoptera: Apidae).
StichwörterApoidea, Anthophila, comparative morphology, Euceriti, Apiti, phylogeny.A new morphological structure is described and figured for orchid bees (Apinae: Euglossini). These minute features are located posterolateral to the ocelli and are termed “juxtocellar structures”. The diversity of their form across Euglossini is described. Homologous structures were found in some related lineages of apid bees (e.g., Anthophorini, Centridini, Eucerini) while in others the structures were absent (e.g., Xylocopinae, Nomadinae). Most notably juxtocellar structures are apomorphically lost in all other corbiculate apine tribes (i.e., Bombini, Meliponini, Apini, Electrobombini, Electrapini, and Melikertini), a pattern which is in accordance with current phylogenetic hypotheses for the clade. Life history and larva of Tenthredo (Elinora) koehleri (Klug, 1809) (Hymenoptera, Tenthredinidae).
Bionomics and juvenile stages of Tenthredo (Elinora) koehleri Klug, 1817 are briefly described and the most important larval characters illustrated. Though adults are mostly found feeding in flowers of Geranium, oviposition was observed on Cardamine amara L. and Myosotis palustris L. (Hill). The larvae feed on Cardamine amara L. and on Cardaminopsis halleri (L.) Hayek (Brassicaceae) but not on Myosotis. Adaptations of the larva to its environment and adaptation of the labiomaxillary complex in the adult are discussed.Keywordsjuvenile stages, behaviour, labiomaxillary complex, adaptations
The Ohakunea group in Tasmania, with description of Colonomyia tasmanica sp. n. (Diptera: Sciaroidea).
StichwörterDiptera, Sciaroidea, Ohakunea group, Colonomyia, new species, Tasmania.Nomenklatorische Handlungentasmanica Jaschhof & Jaschhof, 2008 (Colonomyia), spec. n.The Ohakunea group of genera (unplaced to any family of the Sciaroidea) is present in Tasmania with three species: Ohakunea australiensis Colless, which is newly recorded, Colonomyia albicaulis Colless, and Colonomyia tasmanica sp. n. The new species, which appears to be endemic to Tasmania, is the closest relative of Colonomyia rakelae Hippa & Jaschhof from New Guinea. New arguments presented here support the hypothesis that the Australasian species of Colonomyia form a clade (= Colonomyia sensu stricto) distinct from the congeneric species in the Neotropical region. The complex structure of male and female terminalia of Colonomyia s. str. spp. possibly present an example of lock-and-key that is documented and discussed.KeywordsDiptera, Sciaroidea, Ohakunea group, Colonomyia, new species, Tasmania.Nomenclatural Actstasmanica Jaschhof & Jaschhof, 2008 (Colonomyia), spec. n
On the Alevonota species of the Western Palaearctic region (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Aleocharinae: Athetini).
Die folgenden Synonymisierungen werden vorgenommen: A. kiesenwetteri (Kraatz, 1856) = A. krausei (Sainte-Claire Deville, 1914), syn. n.; A. rufotestacea (Kraatz, 1856) = A. aurantiaca (Fauvel, 1895), syn. n. Zwei Arten werden aus der Gattung ausgeschlossen: Tropimenelytron mirabilis (Eppelsheim, 1884), comb. n. und „Alevonota“ punctipennis (Eppelsheim, 1893).StichwörterColeoptera, Staphylinidae, Athetini, Alevonota, Tropimenelytron, Western Palaearctic region, taxonomy, new species, revalidation, new synonymies, new combinations, lectotype designations, key to species, catalogue, zoogeography, distributions, ecology, wing dimorphism.Nomenklatorische Handlungenaurantiaca Fauvel, 1895 (Aleuonota), Lectotype; syn. n. of Alevonota (Alevonota) rufotestacea (Kraatz, 1856)krausei Sainte-Claire Deville, 1914 (Aleuonota), syn. n. of Alevonota (Alevonota) kiesenwetteri (Kraatz, 1856)cretica Assing & Wunderle, 2008 (Alevonota (Alevonota)), spec. n.elegantula (Brisout de Barneville, 1863) (Alevonota (Alevonota)), stat. rev. now a valid specieshierroensis Assing & Wunderle, 2008 (Alevonota (Alevonota)), spec. n.kiesenwetteri (Kraatz, 1856) (Alevonota (Alevonota)), Lectotype described as Homalota kiesenwetteriocaloides (Brisout de Barneville, 1863) (Alevonota (Alevonota)), stat. rev. now a valid speciesrufotestacea (Kraatz, 1856) (Alevonota (Alevonota)), Lectotype described as Homalota rufotestaceavitalei (Bernhauer, 1932) (Alevonota (Alevonota)), Lectotype described as Aleuonota vitaleisplendens Kraatz, 1856 (Homalota), Lectotype now a synonym of Alevonota (Liota) gracilenta (Erichson, 1839)Liota Mulsant & Rey, 1874 (Staphylinidae), stat. rev. now a subgenus of Alevonota Thomson, 1858mirabilis (Eppelsheim, 1884) (Tropimenelytron), Lectotype; comb. n. hitherto Homalota (Aleuonota) mirabilisTypes and additional material of Western Palaearctic species of Alevonota Thomson, 1858 are revised. 25 species are recognised, two of them are new to science: A. cretica sp. n. (Greece: Crete) and the anophthalmous A. hierroensis sp. n. (Canary Islands: El Hierro). The genus group name Liota Mulsant & Rey, 1874 is revalidated as a subgenus to include only the type species A. gracilenta (Erichson, 1839). Within the nominal subgenus, two species groups are distinguished, the A. rufotestacea group (9 species) and the A. kiesenwetteri group (4 species); the phylogenetic affiliations of most Canarian species have not been examined. 12 species are (re-)described and illustrated. Alevonota elegantula (Brisout de Barneville, 1863) and A. ocaloides (Brisout de Barneville, 1863) are revalidated. The following synonymies are established: A. kiesenwetteri (Kraatz, 1856) = A. krausei (Sainte-Claire Deville, 1914), syn. n.; A. rufotestacea (Kraatz, 1856) = A. aurantiaca (Fauvel, 1895), syn. n. Lectotypes are designated for Homalota rufotestacea Kraatz, H. kiesenwetteri Kraatz, H. splendens Kraatz, 1856, Aleuonota aurantiaca Fauvel, and Homalota mirabilis Eppelsheim, 1884. Bionomic and zoogeographic data are compiled. The distributions of 9 species are mapped. A diagnostic key and a synonymic catalogue including all the Alevonota species of the Western Palaearctic region are provided. Two species are excluded from the genus: Tropimenelytron mirabilis (Eppelsheim, 1884), comb. n., and “Alevonota” punctipennis (Eppelsheim, 1893).KeywordsColeoptera, Staphylinidae, Athetini, Alevonota, Tropimenelytron, Western Palaearctic region, taxonomy, new species, revalidation, new synonymies, new combinations, lectotype designations, key to species, catalogue, zoogeography, distributions, ecology, wing dimorphism.Nomenclatural Actsaurantiaca Fauvel, 1895 (Aleuonota), Lectotype; syn. n. of Alevonota (Alevonota) rufotestacea (Kraatz, 1856)krausei Sainte-Claire Deville, 1914 (Aleuonota), syn. n. of Alevonota (Alevonota) kiesenwetteri (Kraatz, 1856)cretica Assing & Wunderle, 2008 (Alevonota (Alevonota)), spec. n.elegantula (Brisout de Barneville, 1863) (Alevonota (Alevonota)), stat. rev. now a valid specieshierroensis Assing & Wunderle, 2008 (Alevonota (Alevonota)), spec. n.kiesenwetteri (Kraatz, 1856) (Alevonota (Alevonota)), Lectotype described as Homalota kiesenwetteriocaloides (Brisout de Barneville, 1863) (Alevonota (Alevonota)), stat. rev. now a valid speciesrufotestacea (Kraatz, 1856) (Alevonota (Alevonota)), Lectotype described as Homalota rufotestaceavitalei (Bernhauer, 1932) (Alevonota (Alevonota)), Lectotype described as Aleuonota vitaleisplendens Kraatz, 1856 (Homalota), Lectotype now a synonym of Alevonota (Liota) gracilenta (Erichson, 1839)Liota Mulsant & Rey, 1874 (Staphylinidae), stat. rev. now a subgenus of Alevonota Thomson, 1858mirabilis (Eppelsheim, 1884) (Tropimenelytron), Lectotype; comb. n. hitherto Homalota (Aleuonota) mirabili
