Between 1820 and 1870, the business was called The Wellington Castle. Sadly there is not much information online about this location. The hotel is now a Tesco Express with housing accommodation above

Swannington Incline, Swannington
No full textSwannington Incline, Swannington: looking S up the Incline, which was used 1832-1877 to haul coal from the Swannington pits and Coleorton Railway up to the level of the Leicester & Swannington (later Midland) Railway, for transportation to Leicester and other markets. Its duty changed in 1877 to lowering coal down to the Calcutta Pumping Station. This ceased in 1948 when the Pumping Station changed to electric drive, and the Incline was closed and partly demolished and infilled. The Incline was recovered to its present state by local effort, and is managed now by the Swannington Heritage Trust. The bridges visible carry Church Road (nearer) and the Potato Lane footpath (distant)
