Recalls initial interview at City Hall, brief description of the building. Comments on cancellation of Eastern Relief Road construction. First worked on 'Plant a Tree for '73 campaign' encouraging public to plant more trees. Later worked in Development Management as Development Control Officer, managing planning applications for the city centre. Joined the Historic Design and Conservation team as Senior Building Conservation Officer. Remained in position for 13 years before leaving the council. Comments on lost physical heritage sites in Leicester, particularly on west side of city centre. Comments on role as Development Control Officer. Describes discoveries from the Shires archaeological investigation and Highcross as most impactful discoveries for Leicester heritage. Details role as Conservation Officer and comments on interactions with the council. MT describes growth in public interest and public concern for heritage sites from 1960s onwards. Talks about changes to planning policy post Second World War, arrival of 1968 Planning Act and Listed Building Consent, 1967 Civic Amenities Act which brought in conservation areas. MT describes personal attitudes towards heritage in his neighbourhood
