    No full text
Shyness or modesty (haya’) is a noble character trait emphasized in Islamic teachings and considered a fundamental aspect of faith. Despite its significance, the value of modesty is often underestimated in contemporary social life, especially amid the increasing exposure to immoral behavior and the erosion of ethical boundaries. This study aims to explore the theological position of modesty in Islam and its practical implementation in daily social interactions. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, this research relies on literature studies and content analysis of Qur’anic verses, hadiths, and scholarly publications from recent years. The findings show that modesty is more than just personal timidity; it is a dynamic moral force that guides behavior, promotes self-restraint, and fosters a sense of responsibility toward others. Furthermore, modesty serves as a protective barrier that preserves individual dignity and social harmony. The study concludes that instilling the value of modesty is crucial in character education and remains relevant in addressing moral challenges in modern society. It is recommended that educational institutions and families incorporate this value systematically to strengthen ethical awareness from an early age.

    No full text
This study aims to analyze the dynamics of gender inequality and the efforts to achieve economic equality within Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Magelang City, with a specific focus on the division of labor roles, access to core employment, and wage parity between men and women. Adopting the Gender and Development (GAD) framework, this research deeply explores how prevailing social norms, domestic power relations, and local micro-economic structures collectively influence women’s opportunities and economic participation. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, gathering primary data through in-depth interviews conducted across five diverse MSMEs: Anggrek Nambangan, Batik Rajah, Dhewi Laundry, Pabrik Tahu Trunan, and Cafe Utun & Mie Ayam Raya. The analysis of the findings is contextualized using Francine D. Blau’s theory on wage structure. The results indicate that women hold a substantial role, particularly in the service and family-based business sectors. However, their participation is still constrained by labor divisions based on gender stereotypes (e.g., assignment to light and repetitive tasks) and control stemming from domestic norms (particularly in the Dhewi Laundry case). Although there are claims of wage equality for similar work, the structural findings reveal that women’s access to strategic positions, formal managerial training, and economic mobility for career advancement remains highly limited, except in the case of Cafe Utun, which implements competence-based, gender-neutral recruitment and wages. This research concludes that women's empowerment within Magelang MSMEs is currently at the adaptive stage, yet to reach the transformative stage. Therefore, policy recommendations emphasize the necessity of inclusive structural interventions to improve women's access to capital, training, and core job opportunities

Inclusive Philanthropy and Poverty Alleviation in Indonesia: A Study of the Philosophy of Deliberative Justice

    No full text
This study explores the role of inclusive philanthropy in addressing the persistent challenge of poverty in Indonesia’s multicultural society, where structural disparities are often shaped by religious, ethnic, and socio-economic differences. While philanthropic traditions such as zakat, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf have long been central to Islamic social practice, their implementation has often remained confined within exclusive communal or religious boundaries, limiting their transformative potential. Taking the case of the LAZ Griya Yatim & Dhuafa Foundation in Cilegon City, this research seeks to understand how philanthropic initiatives that transcend identity-based limitations can contribute to more equitable and sustainable welfare distribution. Employing a qualitative approach that includes in-depth interviews with key philanthropic stakeholders and critical literature analysis, the study draws on Jürgen Habermas’s theory of deliberative justice to examine how inclusive philanthropy can operate within the public sphere as an instrument of both solidarity and justice. The analysis reveals that dialogically grounded and participatory philanthropy, when responsive to the pluralism of its social context, has the capacity to strengthen civil society engagement and promote fair access to welfare resources. It was found that inclusive philanthropy is an effective strategy for alleviating poverty regardless of ethnicity, religion, or race. These findings emphasize deliberative justice to ensure a fair welfare distribution through the active participation of civil society. It is hoped that inclusive philanthropic practices will increase through government policies in more structured state philanthropy and active involvement in the public sphere. Ultimately, this study offers both theoretical insight and practical direction for how inclusive philanthropic models can be integrated into broader strategies of poverty alleviation and social transformation in plural societies.

    No full text
This research aims to analyze the influence of affective filters, Krashen’s theory, on students’ speaking performance through the three affective filters: self-confidence, motivation, and anxiety.  A qualitative study was used to understand how affective filters influence students’ speaking performance. To collect the data, the researchers used questionnaires distributed to 10 participants of English Education students. The result shows that self-confidence becomes the main factor that makes their speaking ability low. Anxiety can also make it even worse. However, most students are highly motivated to learn English, mainly when speaking English. Therefore, teachers should provide a supportive learning environment to help the students reduce anxiety and enhance self-confidence
