The value of new technologies in participatory democracy : the case of the European citizens’ initiative
seek permanent peace through the exercise of active citizenship.
Since 2012, the European Citizens’ Initiative instrument has
emerged in the process of drafting legislative acts of the European
Union. One of the facets of this citizenship is to enable citizens to
become involved in decision-making through participation in
the exercise of legislative initiative. The Lisbon Treaty introduced
the right to the ECI. The aim is to actively involve citizens in the
European decision-making, giving them an indirect form of
legislative initiative. Information technologies (IT) are the essence
of up-to-date organizations in general, and changes in this field
are occurring at an uncontrollable pace, interrupting traditional
models and forcing organizations to implement new models, new
ways of working and communicating. In this context, the European Commission, not ignoring the relevance and transformations inherent in the use of IT, has included its use in several areas, namely in the European Citizens’ Initiative. In this research is analysed how much a platform available in the European Citizens’
Initiative context is used in petitions and the evolution of this
same use until the completion of the review in 2018.Universidad San Pablo-CE

Present and future of Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) infections / Beatriz Suay García and María Teresa Pérez Gracia.
There are three major mechanisms by which Enterobacteriaceae become resistant to carbapenems: enzyme production, e ux pumps and porin mutations. Of these, enzyme production is the main resistance mechanism. There are three main groups of enzymes responsible for most of the carbapenem resistance: KPC (Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase) (Ambler class A), MBLs (Metallo-ß-Lactamases) (Ambler class B) and OXA-48-like (Ambler class D). KPC-producing
Enterobacteriaceae are endemic in the United States, Colombia, Argentina, Greece and Italy. On the other hand, the MBL NDM-1 is the main carbapenemase-producing resistance in India, Pakistan and
Sri Lanka, while OXA-48-like enzyme-producers are endemic in Turkey, Malta, the Middle-East and North Africa. All three groups of enzymes are plasmid-mediated, which implies an easier horizontal transfer and, thus, faster spread of carbapenem resistance worldwide. As a result, there is an urgent need to develop new therapeutic guidelines to treat CRE infections. Bearing in mind the di erent mechanisms by which Enterobacteriaceae can become resistant to carbapenems, there are di erent approaches to treat infections caused by these bacteria, which include the repurposing of already existing antibiotics, dual therapies with these antibiotics, and the development of new ß-lactamase inhibitors and antibiotics
Portrayal of the journalist in Spanish cinema from 1990 to 2010
The journalist is a regular character in Spanish films, and analysing
this role is fundamental in learning more about the profession.
The aim of this research is to identify the profile of the journalist
in cinema from 1990 to 2010, two decades of drastic changes in the
modes of communication in our country. In its empirical phase, one
of the fundamental contributions can be found in the recovery of
Morphology of the Folktale (1928), by Russian Folklorist-Scholar
Vladimir Propp, which can be used to establish the characteristics
of the reporter from a structuralist point of view. In this book, the
conclusion reached is that the heroes are those in charge of serious journalism, whereas the villains, mainly women, are the stars of the television ‘boom’ with a predominance of morbidity and deceit on the small screen
Effects of short-term intravaginal progestagen treatment on fertility and prolificacy after natural breeding in sheep at different reproductive seasons / Paula Martínez Ros ... [et al.].
Este artículo se encuentra disponible en la siguiente URL: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/09712119.2019.1599899The present study indicates that short-term progestagen-based protocols for synchronization of estrus and ovulation in sheep involving 7 days of progestagen insertion with administration of prostaglandin F2α at either insertion or removal of the progestagen sponge resulted in 80–90% fertility during the breeding season, while a classical long-term protocol of 14 days of progestagen insertion resulted in 77% fertility. During the non-breeding season, fertility was significantly higher for the 7-day protocol with prostaglandin administration at sponge insertion (79.2%) and for the 14-day protocol (80%) than for the 7-day protocol with prostaglandin administration at sponge removal (59.1%; P = 0.018). Prolificacy, in contrast, varied significantly with genotype, being higher in prolific breeds, but it did not
vary with progestagen protocol or breeding season. These results suggest that short-term progestagen-based treatments can provide similar reproductive efficiency as long-term treatments, which may help practitioners reduce welfare and health issues while maintaining productivity
Virtual reality exercise intradialysis to improve physical function : a feasibility randomized trial / Eva Segura Ortí ... [et al.].
Este artículo se encuentra disponible en la siguiente URL: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/sms.13304Objective: The main objective of this investigation was to assess feasibility of conducting a future RCT with an intradialysis non-immersive virtual reality exercise intervention. The secondary aim was to explore the impact of either conventional or VR exercise on physical function.
Design: Feasibility randomized trial
Participants: 18 subjects who participated in a 16 weeks intradialysis combined exercise program.
Interventions: The program lasted 4 additional weeks of either combined exercise or virtual reality exercise.
Main outcome measures:
Physical function was measured through several reliable tests (sit to stand to sit tests 10 and 60, gait speed, one-leg heel rise tests and 6-minute walk test) at baseline, after 16 weeks of intradialysis combined exercise and by the end of 4 additional weeks of exercise. Adherence to the exercise programs was registered.
Results: There was a significant time effect, so that physical function improved in both groups. By the end of the 20 weeks, function improved as measured through the sit to stand to sit test 10 and 60, gait speed, one-leg heel rise left leg and the 6-minute walk test. Changes that did not occur due to error in the test were seen after 20 weeks were achieved in the sit to stand to sit test 60, gait speed, one-leg heel rise test for the left leg
and 6-minute walking test.
Conclusion: Virtual reality was a feasible intervention. Both interventions improved physical function. Adherence was not significantly different between groups. A study of the dynamic response of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Epoxy (CFRE) prepregs for musical instrument manufacturing / Manuel Ibáñez-Arnal , Luis Doménech-Ballester and Fernando Sánchez-López.
Composite materials are presented in a wide variety of industrial sectors as an alternative to traditionally used materials. In recent years, a new sector has increasingly used these kinds of materials: the manufacture of musical instruments. Resonances of di erent elements that make up the geometries of musical instruments are commonly used with the aim of enhancing aspects of the timbre. These are sensitive to the mechanical characteristics of the material, so it is important to guarantee the properties of the composite. To do this, it is not uncommon to use pre-impregnated fibers (prepregs) which allow fine control of final volumetric fractions of the composite. Autoclaving is a high-quality process used to guarantee the desired mechanical properties in a composite, reducing porosity and avoiding delamination, but significantly raising production costs. On the contrary, manufacture without autoclaving increases competitiveness by eliminating the costs associated with autoclave production. In this paper, di erences in dynamic behavior are evaluated under free conditions of di erent Carbon Fiber Reinforced Epoxy (CFRE) prepreg boards, processed by autoclave and out-of-autoclave. The results of the complex module are presented according to the frequency, quantifying the variations in the vibratory behavior of the material due to the change of processing
