The Capitular Library of Toledo Cathedral has among its collection a group of Mudejar bindings with decorative central motives realized by craftsmen during the 15th century.

    Get PDF
The invasion of the Visigothic Kingdom of Toledo came about through the expansion of the Muslim Empire, but the real possibility and ease with which it occurred was brought about by the pact made with Count Julian and the help of the Witizan faction. Everything seems to indicate that the Muslim fl eet of Ifriqiya did not participate initially, despite the interpretation made by some, of several references from certain Muslim authors. We believe that the ships in which Ayyash (Abbas) Ibn Sharahil (Ujayl, Akhyal) sailed from Al-Andalus to Ifriqiya were those that Musa Ibn Nusayr had built in vast numbers on the shores of Africa, after Tariq Ibn Ziyad set sail for the Iberian Peninsula, and which were used to send him reinforcements, so that Musa himself could cross the Straits of Gibraltar in the year 93 of the Hegira, and also to transport the spoils of war that Musa took to Tangier in the year 95 of the Hegira.

In the light of the usual historical image presenting the late medieval female religious movement as lacking coherence and being determined by the phenomenon of a socio-economic female surplus, these pages raise the importance of the analysis of its characteristic connection with the cities in order to evaluate their features, associative forms and intentions and, consequently, the political dimension of urban women’s spirituality. The focus is on one sector of the movement, namely the non-regulated religious life, considered within an Andalusian framework that was particularly conspicuous in female religious expression: the city of Córdoba, reformist epicenter during the last two centuries of the Middle Ages.

    Get PDF
This article analyzes the exceptional privileges that Governor Pedro Fajardo and the City Council of Murcia granted to the Genoese merchants between 1454 and 1474, mostly to the Negro and Spínola families, to import and export products to and from the other extreme of the border of the Kingdom of Granada, with guaranteed insurances for the incomes of the city. This security proves an absence of danger in the commercial transit in the coasts of Granada and challenges the idea of rivalry between the Governor and the king of Granada formulating a new hypothesis: a mercantile alliance between both ringleaders that protected the Kingdom of Murcia of an economic blockade on the part of Castilian king Henry IV after the conflict with the unsuccessful Alphonso XII.El presente artículo analiza los excepcionales privilegios que el Adelantado Pedro Fajardo y el Concejo de Murcia concedieron a los mercaderes genoveses entre 1454 y 1474, principalmente a las familias Negro y Spínola, para importar y exportar productos desde y hacia el otro extremo de la frontera del Reino de Granada, con seguros avalados con las rentas de la ciudad.

    Get PDF
Using Aquinas’ proposal, this article tries to show the nexus between the intelligibility of Nature and the intellectual knowledge of Universals that we think, and that stricto sensu exist only as forms of singular things that are around us. For it, and based on the idea that Nature allows itself to be known because of its intelligibility per se, we try to show the solution that Aquinas delivers to the question for the metaphysical statute of the universals. Also, and because is a particular case of this medieval problem, since that links the fi nitude and contingency of the basic inclinations of human person with the universality of certain ethical imperatives, we will also treat the subject of Natural law, in accordance with the exposure of Aquinas’ Summa Theologiae.
