Ο ΓΚΠΔ και η εξαίρεση της οικιακής δραστηριότητας: Η αχίλλειος πτέρνα της προστασίας (σχολιασμός της απόφασης 22/2021 της Αρχής Προσωπικών Δεδομένων, 29/03/2022)
No full textΤο άρθρο σχολιάζει την απόφαση 22/2021 της Αρχής Προσωπικών Δεδομένων, με την οποία κρίθηκε ότι εφαρμόζεται η εξαίρεση της οικιακής χρήσης στην περίπτωση της εγκατάστασης εντός κατοικίας ενός συστήματος βιντεοσκόπησης. Με αναφορά στην σχετική νομολογία του ΔΕΕ, το άρθρο σκοπεύει να δείχνει ότι το σκεπτικό της απόφασης δεν ήταν ορθό. Όντως, η εξαίρεση της οικιακής χρήσης λειτουργεί ως εφαρμογή της αρχής «de minimis non curat lex». Δηλαδή, στις περιπτώσεις όπου αντιθέτως η επεξεργασία δεδομένων δύναται να έχει ουσιώδες επιπτώσεις στην ιδιωτική ζωή του υποκείμενου της προστασίας (όπως στην προκείμενη περίπτωση), η επίκληση στην εξαίρεση πρέπει να απορριφθεί

No full textΗ Αρχή, στην απόφαση αυτή, έκρινε ότι δεν εφαρμόζεται ο ΓΚΠΔ και ο ν. 4624/2019 σε περίπτωση εγκατάστασης και λειτουργίας καμερών εσωτερικά εντός των δωματίων οικίας, επειδή η επεξεργασία προσωπικών δεδομένων εμπίπτει στην εξαίρεση της «αποκλειστικά προσωπικής και οικιακής δραστηριότητας», ανεξαρτήτως του γεγονότος ότι ο καταγγέλλων ήταν υποχρεωμένος να μεταβαίνει στην οικία της καταγγελλόμενης προκειμένου να ασκεί το δικαίωμα επικοινωνίας με το τέκνο του, παρουσία της καταγγελλόμενης.Βλ. σχετ. άρθρο Philippe Jougleux: https://ejournals.lib.auth.gr/infolawj/article/view/890
Μεταφράζοντας την παραβολή του ασώτου υιού με την αφηγηματολογική μέθοδο του Α. J. Greimas: Η αφηγηματική σύνταξη του κειμένου
No full textΤο αντικείμενο της παρούσας μελέτης αφορά την ανάλυση της αφηγηματικής σύνταξης της παραβολής του ασώτου υιού, η οποία αποτελεί ένα αφήγημα της Αγίας Γραφής, με διδακτική και θεολογική διάσταση. Στο πλαίσιο αυτής της έρευνας εστιάζουμε στην διδακτική διάσταση του κειμένου και ειδικότερα ασχολούμαστε με την εύρεση των αφηγηματικών δομών του κειμένου, οι οποίες αποτελούν προϊόν του κυριολεκτικού νοήματος της παραβολής. Το μεθοδολογικό εργαλείο που επιλέχθηκε για την ανάλυση είναι η αφηγηματική συνιστώσα του μοντέλου της γενετικής διαδρομής. Το συγκεκριμένο μοντέλο αποτελεί συστατικό της αφηγηματολογικής μεθόδου του Α. J. Greimas. Από την ανάλυση προκύπτει ότι ο βασικός σκοπός της διδακτικής αφήγησης είναι η περιγραφή της προσπάθειας του νεότερου υιού για την απόκτηση της ελευθερίας του, δηλαδή με άλλους όρους πρόκειται για μία ιστορία ενηλικίωσης. Στο πλαίσιο αυτό, το θεμελιώδες διαχρονικό θετικό κοινωνικό πρότυπο, το οποίο προβάλλεται είναι η οικογένεια. Επίσης, ο παραβολικός λόγος αναδεικνύει τον άσωτο υιός ως «πρότυπο μετανοίας». Μιας και η μετάνοια στο κείμενο γίνεται το μέσο επικύρωσης της υιοθεσίας, αλλά και της διαγραφής των πρότερων αμαρτιών. Συνεπώς, ο παραβολικός λόγος μεταμορφώνεται σε ανατρεπτικό λόγο. The subject of this study concerns the analysis of the narrative syntax of the parable of the prodigal son, which is a biblical narrative, with an instructional and theological dimension. In the context of this study, we focus on the instructional dimension of the text, and in particular, we deal with finding the narrative structures of the text, which are the product of the literal meaning of the parable. The methodological tool chosen for the analysis is the narrative component of the model of the generative trajectory. This model is a component of the narrative method of A. J. Greimas. The analysis shows that the main purpose of the instructional narrative is to describe the young son's effort to gain his freedom, that is, in other terms, it is a story of adulthood. In this context, the fundamental diachronic positive social prototype, that is projected is the family. The parabolic speech also highlights the prodigal son as a prototype of metanoia (repentance). Since repentance in the text becomes the means of validation of adoption, but also the erasure of previous sins. Therefore, parabolic speech is transformed into subversive speech
The effect of strategy instruction on strategy use in video-mediated integrated writing
No full textExplicit Strategy Instruction (SI) can greatly benefit English for Academic Purposes (EAP) learners who tackle highly challenging integrated writing tasks. This paper explores the effect of SI on the strategies used upon completion of a video-mediated integrated writing task by Greek EAP students. Findings indicated statistically significant differences in the pre- post-comparison for most of the questionnaire items. The differences were more pronounced in the self-regulation and output production strategies indicating effectiveness of the SI on the students’ cognitive and metacognitive strategy use. This paper presents the specific SI and discusses the implications for explicit SI in EAP contexts
Examining the impact of university students’ socio-economic status on their attitudes towards foreign language learning and language choices
No full textStudents’ Socio-Economic Status (SES) has long been considered as a pivotal factor, which has a direct impact on their success in language learning outcomes and their motivation to learn foreign languages. This paper will report on the findings of a study conducted among students who pursue undergraduate studies in different disciplines at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The aim of the study is to determine the extent to which students’ SES affects their attitudes towards foreign language learning and define their foreign language choices. What is more, we will also focus on the impact of the economic situation in Greece (at the time the study was conducted) on students’ language attitudes and language choices. Drawing on the findings of the study, some recommendations are put forward in an attempt to offer equal opportunities for learning foreign languages to all students irrespective of their socio-economic status
The Aesthetics of Grief: Exploring Sorrow in the Paradigm of Gris
No full textDespite the fierce criticism, videogames have managed to enter the mainstream and establish themselves as one of most widely enjoyed types of transmedia storytelling (Jenkins). Their functions, however, are not limited to entertainment contexts, as they are often used in medicine to help patients cope with long-term hospitalization; detect the risk of dementia; provide a creative outlet; as well as raise awareness about mental health and communicate to the audience the struggles of people experiencing mental health issues. This paper will explore manifestations of grief, as presented in Gris (2018), an award-winning videogame, while also drawing parallels with Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’ model of the five stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance), as presented in her book On Death and Dying (1969). The paper will focus inter alia on the function of color and music in the game, while also introducing concepts regarding immersion, gameplay, and ludus in an attempt to show how these elements are utilized to resonate with the players, thus allowing them to reflect on their personal struggles and, potentially, overcome them via a virtual healing experience
Relief from Relief?: Greek-Born Adoptees “Talk Back”
No full textWhen the first waves of Greek children reached the USA in the early 1950s, to be adopted by American parents, this overseas adoption movement was presented as the US humanitarian relief effort of the postwar days. It was also the feel-good story that captivated western public opinion for years to come. It was one of the central narratives of Cold War US aid to Greece. But when the Greek-born adoptees, as adults, started to speak and write for themselves, as they have done since 2011, a different narrative emerged. This new narrative destabilizes the purported humanitarian “rescue” of “Greek orphans,” and it merits our close attention. The adoptees’ own memoirs drive the ex-centric, the extra-ordinary, the de-centering narrative on US relief of the past twelve years (2011-2022). Their testimonies help to power the field of critical adoption studies, which itself emerged around the year 2000. This article presents a critical analysis of adoption stories written by Greek-born adoptees: two book-length memoirs and a collective volume of shorter essays, all published between 2019 and January 2023
Life at Camp Perry in 1921: A Scrapbook of Gamified Missionary Work at Kilios
No full textIn 1921, the YMCA out of Constantinople appointed William Jourdan Rapp director of a “Boys’ Camp” at a site near Kilios on the Black Sea. Named Perry, equally for the five values of Personality, Education, Recreation, Religion, and Youth as for James Perry who “gave his life for the advancement of YMCA work in Turkey,” this camp ran a special month-long program designed to create “leaders” who would be able to volunteer at orphans’ camps later in the same summer. With the goal of understanding more about the realities of campers’ lives in Orphans’ Camps and other Work Camps in the “Near East” during the interwar period, this paper looks at Rapp’s personal papers from the years of his YMCA service in the Mediterranean, including extensive reports on and correspondence concerning Camp Perry—as well as a scrapbook and a newspaper jointly put together by the camp staff and the campers themselves
Interrelationships of Musical Cultures Considered from the Perspective of the Phenomena of Diffusion and Osmosis
No full textThe subject of my interest in this paper is the aspects of the musical transposition of two spontaneous physical processes: diffusion, and its specific form – osmosis. The aim of my research is the application of their laws to the theoretical interpretation of the interrelationships of different musical cultures. This particularly applies to the field of the phenomenon of the creative appropriation of compositional procedures and attitudes, their dissemination and pervasion. And for the musical argumentation of that interpretation, I chose examples from the avantgarde 'wave' of Serbian music of the 1960s.From the methodological point of view, I shall carry out the flow of my text from the conceptual determination and differentiation of diffusion and osmosis, to the deliberation of these processes from the perspective of their nature and forms of appearance in music. The expected result of this research is that the transposition of diffusion and osmosis into music will not disclose these processes as the ones unfolding 'by themselves' but as considerably caused and directed by both authors' individual and social-historical and cultural agents. And yet, even as such, those processes need not be inevitable or necessary
DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF SPORT TEAM IDENTIFICATION SCALE WITHIN SOCIAL IDENTITY THEORY: AN ITEM RESPONSE THEORY APPROACH
No full textThe purpose of the present study was to develop a new scale, based on social identity theory, for measuring the levels of fans’ identification with their favorite sport team overcoming prior shortcomings reported in several well-established instruments (e.g., connection to theory, certain aspects of psychometric properties). The study employed the item response theory as an analytical framework. Data were collected from two independent studies. Eight hundred seventy-seven subjects participated in the first study and 265 in the second. Participants were viewers of Greek sporting websites of high visibility. Results of the two independent studies revealed that a unidimensional 10-item scale (named Sport Team Identification Scale; STIS-10) assesses a wide range of fans’ identification levels with high precision. Moreover, STIS-10 explained a greater amount of variance for basking in reflected glory (R2 = 47.4%) and attendance intentions (R2 = 69.8%), compared to existing scales. The findings of the present research can contribute to the existing literature by offering a short, reliable, valid, and theoretically driven instrument to measure the social identity afforded by an individual’s identification with a sport team
