No full textΗ παρούσα μελέτη αναφέρεται στην χάραξη και υλοποίηση τοπικών σχεδίων αντεγκληματικής πολιτικής που βασίζονται στην ουσιαστική και ενεργό ανάμειξη της τοπικής κοινωνίας και την υπεύθυνη συμμετοχή των ίδιων των πολιτών στη χάραξη και την υλοποίηση της αντεγκληματικής πολιτικής. Τα τοπικά σχέδια αντεγκληματικής πολιτικής αποτελούν επιτυχημένο θεσμό συμμετοχικής αντεγκληματικής πολιτικής σε πολλές ευρωπαϊκές χώρες, μεταξύ των οποίων και στην Ολλανδία, το επιτυχημένο παράδειγμα της οποίας για την συμπαραγωγή, συνδιαχείριση και συνυπευθυνότητα για την αντιμετώπιση της μικρής και μεσαίας βαρύτητας εγκληματικότητας σε τοπικό επίπεδο παρουσιάζεται. Καταληκτικά δε διαπιστώνεται ότι, για την περίπτωση της χώρας μας, η απουσία τοπικών σχεδίων αντεγκληματικής πολιτικής και συνεργατικών παρεμβάσεων της κοινότητας στην πρόληψη του εγκλήματος αποτελεί τμήμα μιας ευρύτερης ελλειμματικής πολιτικής και άρνησης να προσεγγισθούν οι κοινότητες ως φορείς κοινωνικού ελέγχου με ουσιαστικές αρμοδιότητες. Όπως όμως μας δείχνει η διεθνής και ευρωπαϊκή εμπειρία η αντιμετώπιση του εγκληματικού φαινομένου απαιτεί αφενός συνεργατικά σχήματα μεταξύ των επισήμων φορέων χάραξης και υλοποίησης της αντεγκληματικής πολιτικής και κοινωνικών εταίρων του ιδιωτικού, δημοσίου και εθελοντικού τομέα και, αφετέρου, αποκέντρωση της πολιτικής κατά του εγκλήματος και συνακόλουθα επένδυση στην κοινωνική δυναμική της τοπικής κοινωνίας.

No full textΣτην παρούσα δημοσίευση παρουσιάζονται οι μεταφράσεις (σελ. 8-11 και 16-19) με κατεύθυνση προς την ιταλική του Ιωάννη Μιχαηλίδη. Πρόκειται για δυο εικονογραφηγηματικές ιστορίες (σελ. 4-7 και 12-15) του Χρήστου Δημητρίου (1960-2016) σε σενάριο και σχέδιο του ίδιου, με τίτλους: Το απόγευμα ενός μπάτσου και Τα λεφτά ή τη ζωή σου. Οι ιστορίες αυτές περιλαμβάνονται στην σειρά: Παράξενες ιστορίες από τις μεγάλες πόλεις και τα πρωτότυπα ελληνικά κείμενα εκδόθηκαν στο περιοδικό «9» της εφημερίδας «Ελευθεροτυπίας». Οι μεταφράσεις έγιναν από τον Γιάννη Μιχαηλίδη και τα μεταφρασμένα έργα παρουσιάστηκαν στο Φεστιβάλ κόμικς των Χωρών της Μεσογείου Νues (Nuvole) που οργάνωσε το Centro Internazionale del Fumetto το 2008 στο Νουόρο της Σαρδηνίας (Ιταλία). Ιδιαίτερες ευχαριστίες αποδίδονται στην Μάρθα Κοφαντίδου, σύζυγο του Χρήστου Δημητρίου, για την άδεια δημοσίευσης σε επιστημονικό περιοδικό μετάφρασης, στον μεταφραστή προς την Ιταλική DR Γιάννη Μιχαηλίδη.Nella presente pubblicazione vengono presentate le traduzioni in italiano (pag. 8-11 e 16-19) di Jannis Michailidis. Si tratta di due fumetti (pag. 4-7 e 12-15) di Christos Dimitriou (1960-2016) da lui scritti e disegnati, intitolati: Il pomeriggio di uno sbiro e I soldi o la tua vita. Questi racconti sono inseriti nella collana: Stane storie dalle grandi città e i testi originali in greco sono pubblicati sulla rivista “9” del quotidiano “Eleftherotypia”. Le traduzioni sono state curate da Jannis Michailidis mentre le opere tradotte sono state presentate al Festival del fumetto dei Paesi de Mediterraneo Nues (Nuvole) organizzato dal Centro Internazionale del Fumetto nel 2008 a Nuoro in Sardegna (Italia). Un ringraziamento speciale va a Martha Kofantidou, moglie di Christos Dimitriou, per il permesso della pubblicazione delle opere in una rivista scientifica di traduzione, al traduttore nella lingua italiana, DR Jannis Michailidis.
Quantifying the Complex Adaptive System Metaphor: Generating the Educational Transformation Heuristic
No full textEfforts at educational reform in the U.S. are too often ineffective, in large part because thechange process is erroneously assumed to be a predictable, linear matter of technicalprecision. All educational change involves systems, and systems change is complex. Indeed,schools are complex systems, interconnected networks of interacting elements thatconstantly change, sometimes intentionally, sometimes unintentionally. To promote robustand equitable outcomes for all, schools and the larger systems of which they are a part needto become complex adaptive systems (CAS), systems that can deftly adjust in humane,inclusive, and thoughtful ways to emerging shifts in priorities, practices, and studentpopulations. In contrast to assumptions that have informed many reform endeavors, the CASattends to the iterative, recursive, interdependent, and unpredictable nature of educationaltransformation—processing information from the environment and modifying behavior inresponse to an ever-changing context. Drawing on the educational transformationheuristic—largely derived from features of the CAS—one can identify interrelationshipsamong a rich cross-section of related features and analyze emerging patterns to gain a broadunderstanding of the dynamics of change, which should illuminate various issuessurrounding educational transformation, including whether any reform is likely to realize itsintended objectives.Keywords: complex adaptive systems, opportunity gap, emergence, systems change,educational transformation heuristi

No full textThe VV bar is a tool for completing and editing questionnaires, an alternative to Likert scales. It was introduced in 2008 and since then many of the aspects and possibilities it provides to both researchers and informants have been highlighted and studied, in terms of completing and processing the questionnaires. Its main advantages are the drastic reduction of the time of filling in the questionnaires, the avoidance of verbal characterizations of the subdivisions, e.g. good enough, good, very good, excellent, and, finally, the many possibilities of data processing to make them comparable to other researchers’. In other words, it is a record of a subjective situation or phenomenon, so close to the objective that we dare to call it 'sincere'. With this presentation we will try to highlight the last, mainly, advantage in the research of Applied Linguistics
The Sui Generis Cretan Chant (16th-17th c.): a Case Study on the Settings by Venediktos Episkopopoulos
No full textThe compositions included in the musical manuscripts known as “Cretan manuscripts” of the 16th and 17th centuries can be distinguished in two main categories: the first one includes the Cretan works composed according to the “classical” Byzantine tradition or/and arrangements of older Byzantine works, usually entitled by their composers “…as it is written and chanted by me …” or “… as it is chanted by the Cretans”, in order to indicate the re-working of older compositions. The second category includes compositions that are clearly different from the classical Byzantine tradition, and are thus considered as “particular Cretan compositions”. The latter settings can be described as “mixed” given that they echo some Western liturgical traditions without, however, being completely deprived of the techniques of Byzantine composition. Since these compositions do not entirely fit the Byzantine custom, one must assume the existence of specific Cretan idiosyncrasies. In this perspective, a case study of different kinds of composition by the well-known composer Venediktos Episkopopoulos will give the opportunity to put into light various unnoticed features (whether morphological or notational) of the Cretan tradition

No full textThis essay explores two poets, Rainer Maria Rilke and H.D., as they enact a form of “self-help” or “self-other-help.” Focusing on Rilke’s Sonnets to Orpheus (1922) and H.D.’s Trilogy (1944-1946), I show how their works echo each other across poems. These poets provide methods of incantation, invocation, breathing, and identification to enact both “how to suffer” and to create ecstatic experience. These methods required both to face mortality close up as well as to spend long periods alone that allowed them to exercise their “antennae”; they are modernists who point away from denotative language as primary, and explore their link to the earth through what is now considered its own field, eco-poetics

No full textΤα ολοένα αυξανόμενα ποσοστά των εγκλημάτων σεξουαλικής βίας στην Ελλάδα έχουν οδηγήσει στην ένταση των συζητήσεων σχετικά με τη δικαστική απόδειξή τους, ιδίως όταν πρόκειται για κακουργήματα όπως ο βιασμός. Οι ιατροδικαστικές εξετάσεις θεωρούνται ένα κρίσιμο εργαλείο για τη διερεύνηση των εν λόγω υποθέσεων. Ωστόσο, είναι αμφίβολο αν πράγματι αυτές από μόνας μπορούν να παρέχουν αναντίρρητα στοιχεία για την εξακρίβωση της τέλεσης ή μη μίας σεξουαλικής επίθεσης. Η παρούσα μελέτη στοχεύει στο να εμβαθύνει στους περιορισμούς που προκύπτουν από την αποκλειστική στήριξη στις ιατροδικαστικές εξετάσεις για την απόδειξη καταγγελθέντων βιασμών, και να υπογραμμίσει την πολυπλοκότητα, τις αβεβαιότητες και τις πιθανές παγίδες που περιβάλλουν την ερμηνεία τους, με απώτερο σκοπό να συμβάλλει σε μια ευρύτερη συζήτηση γύρω από τις δυσχέρειες της αποδεικτικής και δικονομικής διαδικασίας που ακολουθείται για τα εγκλήματα σεξουαλικής βίας
Antibacterial activity, pigments, and biomass content of microalgae isolated from Greece
No full textMicroalgae display features that render them perfect candidates for biotechnological products and industrial applications. Nevertheless, still, only a small number of them have been studied for their metabolic potential. Herein, we aim to contribute to microalgal metabolic diversity, including in the study of novel genera and species that are investigated for the first time. The intracellular content of 30 eukaryotic autochthonous microalgae belonging to Chlorophyta, Bacillariophyta, Chlorachniophyta, Ochrophyta, and Rhodophyta isolated from different environments in Greece was extracted with six different solvents and tested for their antimicrobial activity against five pathogenic bacterial strains; 50% of the extracts were found to inhibit the growth of the tested bacteria. Strains growing in standard culture conditions, without applying any stress, were examined for their cellular content using analytical methods. The protein and carbohydrate content of some strains was relatively high. We found strains that are worthy of further investigation to be used in commerce or as a potential material for biotechnology.
