Re-contextualizing the official framework for refugee education in Greece: Identifying the gaps in teachers’ views towards the implementation of the official guidelines and curricula in Mainstream and Reception Classes
The current research discusses findings from a case study with teachers in Mainstream (MC) and Reception Classes (RC) regarding the implementation of the official guidelines for children with refugee experience and, more specifically, teachers’ views towards: a) the conditions under which culturally and linguistically diverse students attend primary education and, b) the implementation of the curricula for MC and RC, respectively. The results highlight the need to re-contextualize the official context for refugee education with the aim to improve the operating framework in terms of the implementation of the official guidelines regarding the enrollment criteria and curriculum within the school context
Investigating the phraseology of νους: An exercise in cognitive lexicography
The issue addressed in this paper is phraseology, a slippery term referring to word combinations favoured by native speakers. The study of phraseology has always been a significant topic in lexicology and lexicography because of its pervasive and fuzzy nature. From a theoretical perspective, several efforts have been made to investigate the intricate relationship between idiomaticity and flexibility, leading to a variety of terms. However, from a lexicographic perspective, it remains unclear how multiword expressions (MWEs) should be represented in dictionaries, despite ongoing advancements in dictionary practices. In an attempt to narrow this gap, we present a case study for the Modern Greek noun νους (‘mind’) to illustrate the analysis of MWEs in terms of source and target frame mappings motivated by conceptual metaphors and metonymies, while pointing out its implications for lexicographic treatment
Primary school EFL teachers’ digital competence as a factor of teacher development
Due to the Pandemic, the academic community turned to online teaching and learning, revealing teachers’ unreadiness, i.e., lack of digital skills and competences, which impeded digital integration and knowledge acquisition, and thus resulted in stress and lack of confidence. The update of teacher’s methods, strategies, and digital competence is thus of great importance in order to empower learners and support Teacher Development (TD). The study uses a mixed method approach to investigate EFL teachers’ digital competence and consequently, it proposes a hands-on tool responding to teachers’ development needs to be used as teacher training material encouraging experimentation, peer-observation and reflection in TD programmes
Crossing borders within borders: extroverted musical activities of the Greek National Opera in the aftermath of the Second World War
During the immediate post-war period (Spring 1945 to Spring 1946), the newly founded Greek National Opera, under its director Theodoros N. Synadinos, developed a concert activity that was unusual for the Opera House: a series of events, focusing each time on the musical output of a specific country, where the main Allied Forces of the war (England, the U.S.A and Russia), France, a few Balkan (including Greece in a prominent showcase) but also other European countries were represented.Based mostly on documents retrieved from Th. Synadinos’s Archive and on press articles as well, the present research attempts to reconstitute, in the light of political developments, a specific part of the Athens concert life. I interpret this activity —within borders, due to the irreparable economic damage of the war— as a bridge between the dynamics of extroversion towards Europe demonstrated by Greek art music in the interwar period and the modernity trends introduced to the Athens music scene by various foreign cultural institutes in the early 1950s

Konstantinos Laskaris, der Matrit. 4559 und das Etymologicum Genuinum
In the MS. Madrid, BN, 4559 mainly transmitting a lexicon being a mixture of Etymologicum Gudianum and Etymologicum Magnum plus supplements from the Suda, Constantine Laskaris supplemented a bifolium (ff. 324r-326v) for integrating the alphabetic section tau, almost completely missing in the core text. In doing this, he excerpted the MS. Vat. gr. 1818, the cod. A of the Etymologicum Genuinum. Since a folium in the latter manuscript is now damaged, the Matrit. 4559 will be useful for reconstructiong the text of the Etymologicum Genuinum for this part of the text
Soundscape Podcast: Reimagining the Museum Experience at MOMus Contemporary
This research paper aims to create a podcast consisting of soundscapes as an alternative way to live the museum experience. The particular podcast is based on the museum of contemporary art of MOMus (Metropolitan Organization of Museums of Visual Arts of Thessaloniki). In more detail, the paper investigates soundscapes as a means of modernizing the museum’s guided tour, so that guests can have a more augmented and immersive experience through the usage of current media trends and digital technologies. In combination with some narrative elements, soundscapes guide guests through the museum’s permanent exhibition, provide basic information about the selected showpieces, and transfuse to the visitors the feelings behind them. In addition to the production of soundscapes, the paper reviews the theory behind podcasts and soundscapes, and investigates similar projects
The Dissemination and Publication of Prokofiev’s Violin Sonatas in the USA and the UK Between 1944-194
The war alliance between the USSR, the USA, and the UK stimulated cultural musical exchanges between the Embassies, and the Soviet organizations VOKS (the All-Union Society for Cultural Relations with Foreign Counties) and Preslit (the Press and Publisher Literary Service). The dissemination of Soviet music scores became a means of establishing cordial relations with its allies. In the mid 1940s Preslit was the sole owner of all Soviet musical works of any genre, and according to its agreement with the Soviet composers, it retained worldwide publication and rental rights. In 1944 New York’s Am-Rus Literary-Music Agency established contacts with Moscow’s VOKS and Preslit. The contract between Am-Rus and Preslit led to the creation of the Am-Rus edition, a series of publications of Soviet music published by the Leeds Music Corporation in New York. In the UK, a similar contract between Moscow’s Preslit and London’s publishing company Boosey Hawkes led to the establishment of the Anglo-Soviet Music Press in 1946.The paper examines the Soviet organizations that coordinated music exchanges and how Soviet music scores were disseminated between VOKS, the USA, and the UK in the 1940s. The paper starts by discussing the functions of VOKS and its censorship role in processing Western cultural inquiries. The paper proceeds by discussing the agreements between Preslit, Am-Rus, and Boosey Hawkes that led to the first Anglo-American publication of Soviet music in 1946 by the Leeds Music Corporation and the Anglo-Soviet Music Press. Finally, the dissemination and publication of Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Sonatas opus 80 and 94bis is discussed in detail as a case study, placed in the wider historical and political context of the 1940s
