AN ANALYSIS OF ENGLISH LEARNING MOTIVATION OF NINTH GRADE STUDENTS AT MTS MUSLIMAT NU PALANGKA RAYA
This study aims to determine the level of student’s motivation to learn English and the factors that influence student’s motivation to learn English. Student’s motivation in English learning activities is driven by extrinsic and intrinsic factors.
This study used a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The subjects were 29 students in class 9A. The students were given a questionnaire to find out their level of motivation. The results of the motivation degrees influenced by extrinsic and intrinsic factors were based on the criteria from Taherdoost (2019). At the same time, the researcher observed the classroom during learning and interviewed the students based on their degree of motivation to identify the factors that influenced their motivation.
The results showed that students had a moderate motivation to learn English. Extrinsic motivation, which was 3,48, was slightly higher than intrinsic motivation, which was 3,41, and both were categorized as a moderate degree of motivation. The factors that influence student motivation are goals and aspirations, learning ability, student’s condition, environmental condition and dynamic elements of learning. Lastly, the most dominant factors among them were environmental conditions and dynamic elements of learning as the extrinsic motivation factors. Based on the research results, it can be found that intrinsic and extrinsic factors can influence student’s motivation to learn English. However, external influences such as environmental conditions and dynamic elements of learning play a slightly more substantial role. These insights can encourage teachers and schools to create a supportive and engaging learning environment to increase motivation
THE EFFECT OF SWAY APPLICATION ON STUDENT READING ABILITY IN ELEVENTH GRADE IN MAN KOTA PALANGKA RAYA
This research was conducted after looking at the learning conditions at MANKota Palangka Raya in class eleventh MIPA 4. Which already uses new media butlacks the material and spirit to learn English. Because of that, this research aims todetermine the effect of using the SWAY application on eleventh-grade students.The research used a quantitative treatment approach with pre-experimentalresearch methods. The sample is class XI MIPA 4 consisting of 34 people. Thetechnique used is purposive sampling. Data will be collected with pre-test, treatment,and post-test. After that, questionnaires were distributed to the samples to be filledin. The research concluded that 34 students on the pre-test got 20 for the minimumand 80 for the maximum score while in the post-test the lowest score was 60 and thehighest score was 100.Normality test using the Liliefors normality test the pre-test significance was0.016 and the post-test was 0.002. Pre-test 0.016 < 0.05 and post-test 0.002 < 0.05,because the significance results of the pre-test and post-test < 0.05 indicate that thedata is not normally distributed. This resulted in the data having to be continued withthe non-parametric Wilcoxon test. The significance is 0,000< 0,05 which means theuse of SWAY application has a significant effect on students' reading skills at gradeeleventh of MAN Kota Palangka Raya it was proven by the Non-Parametic TestWilcoxon where the significance value is 0,000 < 0,05 which is Ha accepted and Horejected
PENANAMAN BUDI PEKERTI PADA ANAK USIA DINI MELALUI METODE BERCERITA MENGGUNAKAN BONEKA JARI TANGAN PADA ANAK USIA DINI DI KELOMPOK B TK RAJAWALI SAKTI-3 KOTA PALANGKA RAYA
Zuriah (dalam Rohmah, 2020) menyatakan bahwa pengertian budi pekerti secara hakiki adalah perilaku. Budi pekerti mengacu pada pengertian dalam bahasa inggris, yang diterjemahkan sebagai moralitas. Moralitas mengandung beberapa pengertian antara lain: (a) adat istiadat, (b) sopan santun, dan (c) perilaku. Namun, pengertian budi pekerti secara hakiki adalah perilaku. Budi pekerti akan mengidentifikasi perilaku positif yang diharapkan dapat terwujud dalam perbuatan, perkataan, pikiran, sikap, perasaan, dan kepribadian peserta didik, Nurul Zuriah (dalam Rohmah, 2020). Menurut pendapat Zahroh (2023:28) menyatakan bahwa metode bercerita adalah cara bertutur kata penyampaian cerita atau memberikan penjelasan kepada anak secara lisan dalam upaya mengenalkan atau memberikan keterangan hal baru pada anak. Menurut pendapat Gunarti dkk (2010) menyatakan bahwa ‘boneka jari adalah boneka yang dapat dimasukkan kejari tangan, bentuknya kecil seukuran jari tangan orang dewasa”. Jenis boneka yang digunakan adalah boneka jari yang terbuat dari potongan kain flanel. Boneka jari adalah media yang dapat digunakan oleh guru berupa boneka yang terbuat dari kain flanel yang dapat dimasukkan kejari tangan yang memiliki karakter dan bentuk yang tertentu. Tujuan permainan boneka jari menurut Zaman dkk (2011) dalam yaitu “untuk mengembangkan bahasa anak, mempertinggi keterampilan dan kreativitas anak, mengajak anak belajar bersosialisasi, dan bergotong royong di samping melatih keterampilan jari jemari tangan”.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan eksperimen, dengan menggunakan model one group pre test dan post test design dengan subjek sebanyak 18 anak. Berdasarkan hasil pembahasaan yang telah diperoleh peneliti, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang positif dan signifikasi pada metode bercerita dengan boneka jari tangan dapat meningkatkan penanaman budi pekerti pada anak di kelompok B di TK Rajawali Sakti-3 Kota Palangka Raya. Nilai signifikansi (2-tailed) adalah 18.103 > 0.000 artinya nilai 18.103 lebih besar. Sehingga hasil test awal dan test akhir mengalami perubahan yang signifikan. Berdasarkan statistika deskriptif tes awal dan tes akhir terbukti lebih tinggi. Dapat disimpulkan metode bercerita dengan boneka jari tangan berpengaruh dan dapat meningkatkan penanaman budi pekerti pada anak yang artinya Ha diterima dan HO di tolak
AN ANALYSIS OF GENDER REPRESENTATION IN FOLKLORES FROM CENTRAL KALIMANTAN
Folklore is frequently used as teaching media and entertainment tools for children. However, folklore is suspected to contain gender stereotype. This study aims to examine how men and women are represented as well as the gender stereotypes attached to them.
The method used in the present study is the descriptive qualitative method. The source of data is the text from 28 stories in Central Kalimantan’s folklores collection published by the Ministry of Education and Culture in 1982 and 1995. Gender representation is analyzed through the roles and behavior of the characters in the story. As for investigating gender stereotypes attached to the characters in folklore, the researcher used 4 categories of gender stereotypes by Zuhro (2018) which are (1) personality traits, (2) domestic behaviors, (3) occupations, and (4) physical appearances.
The result of the study shows there is an imbalanced representation of men and women in Central Kalimantan folklores. From the total of 106 characters, men’s representation is 60.37% and women’s representation is 39.42%. Men are often being the main characters in the story. They possess superior roles such as king, warrior, and man with magical power. On the contrary, most characters represented by women possess inferior roles and barely contribute to the storyline. It is also found that there are 62 cases of gender stereotypes promoted by 58 characters in the stories. The gender representation and stereotypes that attached to men and women found in the stories indicate that folklore from Central Kalimantan is heavily influenced by the patriarchal ideology. A critical view is needed in selecting folklore as educational tools for children
THE USE OF FILLERS BY THE STUDENTS OF THE INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH SPEAKING CLASS AT ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM OF PALANGKA RAYA UNIVERSITY
Fillers are words, phrases, and clauses that are employed to fill in the pauses in utterance. They lack inherent meaning and, if omitted from a sentence, would not detract from the sentence's overall meaning. The effectiveness of pause fillers in speech was a useful tool for understanding preferred communication styles. Knowledge of pause fillers in speech provided a framework for organizing the next sentence or idea to be conveyed. Here is why, this research aimed to describe the types of filler and to find out the most dominant type of filler produced by the Intermediate English Speaking class of English Education Study Program at Palangka Raya University in academic year 2023/2024.
This research used a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis where data collection by using documentation technique. Data analysis was done by indentifying, analyzing, discussing and concluding the types of filler. Data classification and analysis were based on the theory by Rose (1998)
Of the 32 audio speaking conducted by the Intermediate English Speaking class of English Education Study Program at Palangka Raya University in academic year 2023/2024, there were 306 (100%) fillers, with a percentage of Unlexicalized Filler type of 287 (93,8%) and Lexicalized Filler type of 19 (6,2%). From the results of this research, it can be seen that the percentage of filler types that dominate these findings is fillers with the Unlexicalized Filler type, 282 (93,8%). This proved that language could not be separated from the presence of filler words. Fillers could have positive benefits, namely as a language style and strategy to make communication run smoothly, but it could also be the opposite, actually making the language unintelligible, uncomfortable to hear because of using too many fillers. The results of this research showed that too many fillers were produced by the speakers as the subject of the research, so the fillers gave the impression that the speakers were disfluent in speaking. This was because speaking was done spontaneously without any prior preparation by speakers who were also speaking learners who were still at an intermediate level and were not trained to use English to communicate. The results of this research was useful to be implied in the field of sociolinguistics
MANAJEMEN PENINGKATAN KOMPETENSI GURU MELALUI BALAI GURU PENGGERAK DI PROVINSI KALIMANTAN TENGAH
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tentang Manajemen Peningkatan Kompetensi Guru Melalui Balai Guru Penggerak Di Provinsi Kalimantan Tengah, dari fokus penelitian utama tersebut, maka dijabarkan menjadi sub fokus sebagai berikut: 1) Perencanaan Peningkatan Kompetensi Guru. 2) Pengorganisasian Peningkatan Kompetensi Guru. 3) Pelaksanaan Peningkatan Kompetensi Guru. 4) Pengawasan Peningkatan Kompetensi Guru. 5) Dampak Peningkatan Kompetensi Guru. 5) Dampak Manajemen Peningkatan Kompetensi Guru.
Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Sumber data primer dalam penelitian ini yaitu: Kepala Balai Guru Penggerak Provinsi Kalimatan Tengah, ketua tim program peningkatan kompetensi, anggota tim program peningkatan kompetensi, tata usaha, dan guru. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data menggunakan cara: 1) Reduksi data; 2) Penyajian data; dan 3) Penarikan Kesimpulan. Pengabsahan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan Teknik triangulasi.
Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa, (1) Perencanaan peningkatan kompetensi guru melalui Balai Guru Penggerak Provinsi Kalimantan Tengah yaitu, a) Guru mengisi instrumen yang disediakan Kemendikbud, b) Menganalisis peta kebutuhan belajar berdasarkan hasil “Refleksi Kompetensi”, c) Hasil dari “Refleksi Kompetensi” digunakan sebagai dasar untuk merancang model PKB, d) Perekrutan peserta pelatihan, e) Untuk sumber pendanaannya menggunakan APBN Kemendikbud. (2) Pengorganisasian peningkatan kompetensi guru melalui Balai Guru Penggerak Provinsi Kalimantan Tengah, yang bertanggung jawab didalamnya kepala Balai Guru Penggerak Provinsi Kalimantan Tengah. (3) Pelaksanaan program peningkatan kompetensi guru melalui Balai Guru Penggerak Provinsi Kalimantan Tengah, pelatihan yang diberikan melalui strategi pelatihan yang didalamnya terdapat alur, metode, dan moda (4) Pengawasan peningkatan kompetensi guru melalui Balai Guru Penggerak Provinsi Kalimantan Tengah, sudah berjalan dengan baik yang dilakukan oleh kepala Balai Guru Penggerak Provinsi Kalimantan Tengah lalu di dilimpahkan ke ketua tim program peningkatan kompetensi (5) Dampak manajemen peningkatan kompetensi guru melalui Balai Guru Penggerak Provinsi Kalimantan Tengah, guru-guru dapat memiliki pemahaman yang mendalam tentang mata pelajaran yang diajarkan dan guru-guru dapat mengembangkan keahlian dalam bidangnya
EVALUASI MANAJEMEN PELAKSANAAN KEJUARAAN MARTIAL ART KOMISARIAT CHAMP (KC) TINGKAT NASIONAL TAHUN 2023 DI PALANGKA RAYA
Dalam pelaksanaan kejuaraan pencak silat, penyelenggara biasanya harus mempersiapkan manajemen dan kepanitiaan kegiatan untuk memastikan bahwa acara tersebut akan berjalan dengan lancar, seperti Pelaksanaan Kejuaraan Martial Art Komisariat Champ (KC) Tingkat Nasional Tahun 2023 di Palangka Raya. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui manajemen perencanaan dan kendala-kendala dalam kegiatan Kejuaraan Martial Art Komisariat Champ (KC). Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, dan dokmentasi. Intrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah pedoman wawancara dengan jumlah 6 informan yang terdiri dari 3 panitia dan 3 atlet. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Manajemen Pelaksanaan Kejuaraan Martial Art Komisariat Champ (KC) Tingkat Nasional Tahun 2023 di Palangka Raya terbilang cukup baik karena persiapan yang dilakukan oleh Unit Kegiatan Khusus (UKK) PSHT dilakukan selama 6 bulan sebelum kegiatan dimulai dengan mengadakan 2 hingga 3 kali rapat dalam seminggu. Mempunyai struktur kepanitiaan yang jelas sehingga tidak terdapat tumpang tindih dalam suatu jabatan dan mempunyai tanggung jawab yang baik sesuai dengan jabatan kepanitiaannya masing-masing, serta koordinasi dan sistem pembagian tugas yang jelas. Namun sempat terjadi perubahan waktu dan jadwal ketika pertandingan dilaksanakan
AN ANALYSIS OF THE VERBS TRANSITIVITY PROCESS IN READING TEXTS OF ENGLISH FOR CHANGE TEXTBOOK FOR THE ELEVENTH GRADE
The transitivity process is a useful tool in analyzing the way language is use to convey meaning and messages, one of which is found in certain texts so that to understand reading well, It is necessary to understand the transitivity process in sentences, therefore the aim of this research is to describe the transitivity process contained in the reading text in the English For Change textbook for the grade eleventh.
This research used a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis where data collection by using documentation technique. The Technique of Data Analysis were Indentifying, Classifying, Analyzing and Discussing. Data classification and analysis is based on the theory by Halliday et al (2014).
The results of this research show that of the 5 text expositions in the English For Change textbook for the eleventh grade, there are 145 (100%) transitivity processes, with material process types at 44.1 %, mental processes at 17.2 %, relational processes at 29.6 %, verbal process at 4.2 %, Behavioral process at 2.2 %, and Existential process at 2.7 %. The transitivity process is always present in every clause because every clause has to a main verb (finite verb). Thus, studying transitivity is a necessity because transitivity or process types are the main system of meaning that came from how sentences are built and how information is arranged. Transitivity helps interpret the meaning of the text more precisely
THE EFFECT OF USING GRAMMARLY ON STUDENTS’ WRITING SKILL OF RECOUNT TEXT AT SMKS YPSEI PALANGKA RAYA
By writing, English learners were trained in organizing their ideas into a good written product that could convey the message they want to convey. Even though it was important, English language learners found writing not easy to do. Therefore, this research aimed to determine the effect of using Grammarly on personal recount text writing skills at SMKS YPSEI Palangka Raya.
This research used a quantitative research method with an experimental design. The type of experiment was a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The population for this research was the students of tenth grade at SMKS YPSEI Palangka Raya for the academic year 2023/2024. The sample used was the students of class OTKP-TATA BOGA at SMKS YPSEI Palangka Raya for the academic year 2023/2024, totaling 16 students.
The research results obtained an average pre-test score of 65.63 and an average post-test score of 80.31. The t value from the paired sample test (t = -4.008) was below the average value. The critical t value is -2.131, and the significance value of the paired sample test (Sig. = 0.001) was below the α value of 0.05. so the average difference between the pre-test and post-test was statistically significant,
with an average difference of -14.688 indicating a higher average post-test score+ compared to the pre-test. Thus, there was a significant effect of using Grammarly on improving the recount text writing ability of class X personal students at SMKS YPSEI Palangka Raya. Even though the research results proved that there was an effect of using free online Grammarly in improving students' writing skills, in fact, Grammarly only helped in terms of mechanics, vocabulary, and grammar, not in terms of organizational aspects of writing, and only had an indirect effect on the ability to write story content of personal recount text. In terms of using the Grammarly application itself, students still had difficulty using Grammarly without the support of other translation engines
PENGARUH KEGIATAN MENCETAK MENGGUNAKAN BAHAN ALAM TERHADAP KREATIVITAS ANAK KELOMPOK B DI TK ADHYAKSA XVIII PALANGKA RAYA
Kreativitas adalah kemampuan seseorang untuk menciptakan ide, sesuatu hal baru, atau memodifikasi hal yang pernah ada sebelumnya sehingga menjadi sesuatu yang unik. Dengan kreativitas seseorang dapat mengembangkan ide-ide yang didapatkannya. Anak kreatif dan cerdas tidak terbentuk dengan sendirinya melainkan perlu pengarahan salah satunya dengan memberi kegiatan yang dapat mengembangkan kreativitas anak. Salah satu kegiatan yang dapat mengembangkan kreativitas anak adalah kegiatan mencetak menggunakan bahan alam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kegiatan mencetak menggunakan bahan alam terhadap kreativitas anak Kelompok B di TK Adhyaksa XVIII Palangka Raya. Jenis penelitian ini adalah pendekatan penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode eksperimen yang menggunakan desain penelitian pre-experimen one-group pretest-posttest design. Sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu 16 orang anak kelompok B di TK Adhyaksa XVIII. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Kemudian data dianalisis dengan menggunakan rumus uji-t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa thitung sebesar 7,9432 sedangkan ttabel dengan taraf signifikan 5% (0,05) adalah sebesar 2,131. Dari data ini dapat dilihat bahwa nilai thitung (7,9432) > ttabel (2,131). Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima yaitu ada pengaruh kegiatan mencetak menggunakan bahan alam terhadap kreativitas anak kelompok B di TK Adhyaksa XVIII
