Poverty Reduction in Coastal Community Area through Marine Tourism Development: A Case Study of Pemuteran Village
This study investigates marine tourism’s contribution to poverty reduction amongst communities living in the coastal area. The study mainly employed a qualitative research design and data were collected through a mixed method approach involving interviews with a wide range of community members directly involved with tourism and observation. Some data was also gathered from secondary sources. The findings indicate that marine tourism brings benefits and played an important role in improving the living conditions of the poor in Pemuteran village. The study also identified several problems existing within the coastal community. Some of these barriers included lack of having adequate English from the villagers who are mostly traditional fishermen and lack of broad-based management structures. The study concludes that marine tourism has the potential to contribute to poverty reduction in Pemuteran village. This can only happen if there is a unity of purpose and renewed cooperation amongst all tourism stakeholders, transparency and accountability in financial matters
CONSTRUCTION MODEL OF TOURIST VILLAGE DEVELOPMENT TOWARDS SMART ECO-TOURISM VILLAGE DESTINATION IN PAKSEBALI TO BECOME TOURISM ICON IN KLUNGKUNG REGENCY, BALI
Paksebali is a newly developed tourist village in Bali. The development encounters challenges on the destination management, promotion, and stakeholders’ support. This study aimed at formulating strategy and construct the tourist village development model. Observation, interview, documentation, and FGD were used to collect data which then analyzed descriptively using qualitative and SWOT analysis. The study displayed the current condition of Paksebali is in the growth-oriented strategy. The construction of Paksebali development model towards smart eco-tourism village destination was initiated with identification of supporting components. This can be formulated into a tourist village development strategy including ICT-based management.Paksebali is a newly developed tourist village in Bali. TOURISTS EXPECTATION AND PERCEPTION TOWARD SANGEH TOURISM VILLAGE
Sangeh is a tourism village which has tourism potentials such as nature scenery, rice field, forest, and culinary. This research studies the expectation and perception of the tourists who visit Sangeh. A qualitative method using questionnaire and interview techniques was used in the research. There were 155 respondents in which the questionnaire was distributed offline and online. This research aims to find out the expectation, perception, and satisfaction of the tourists in enjoying their tourism visit in Sangeh, and also to find out the efforts which can be done by the management in increasing tourists’ satisfaction in enjoying the tourism visit. The results show that the tourists’ expectation is on the installation of road signs which enable them to reach Sangeh easily. The highest perception felt by the tourists is its beautiful natural scenery. The biggest gap felt by the tourists is the internet connection. The effort which should be done by the management is by providing additional supporting facilities
IMPLICATIONS OF COMMODIFIED PARWA SHADOW PUPPET PERFORMANCE FOR TOURISM IN UBUD, BALI
The purpose of this article is to examine the phenomenon of Balinese shadow puppet performances as a tourism entertainment spectacle in Ubud, Bali. Basically, the Parwa shadow puppet shows as Balinese shadow puppets are stag for the purposes of traditional ceremonies with long duration. In contrast to the type of Parwa shadow puppet show in Ubud is stag for tourism, only it's stag with a shorter duration. This phenomenon certainly raises a big question about the implications of stag such performances for tourism.This article is prepared to use qualitative research methods. All data were obtained through literature study, interview and observation. After all data is obtained, it is analyzed by using the perspective of cultural studies.The results show that the commodification of Parwa shadow puppet shows for tourism has economic, social and cultural implications. Economically, the commodification of the Parwa shadow puppet show for tourism has already had implications for a change in instrumental value, adding profit to cottage owners and retailers. Socially, the commodity has implications in the popularity as well as the identity of shadows puppet group. Culturally has implications for the preservation of cultural identity in the context of tourism, mediation of cultural promotion to tourists, cultural degradation of puppets and the difficulty of enculturation
THE PERCEPTION AND PARTICIPATION OF COMMUNITY IN DEVELOPPING SMART ECO-VILLAGE DESTINATION IN THE TOURIST VILLAGE PAKSABALI AS A TOURISM ICON IN KLUNGKUNG DISTRICT-BALI
The development of tourist village is a government policy that is expected to improve the economy of the community, expanding the employment vacancies, alleviating poverty. Expanding the employment vacancies that lead to improve the welfare of rural communities. The purpose of this study is to determine the perception and participation of local people in Paksebali in the development of smart eco-village destination in the tourist village of Paksebali, Dawan subdistrict, Klungkung regency. The approach is done by distributing to 30 respondents (Purposive sampling).The collected data were primary and secondary data with the techniques are observation, interview and documentation. The collected data were then analyzed by qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of this study shows that the public perception of the development of smart eco-village Paksebali tourist village is the the public generally has known about the development of tourist villages. The community very agree and support by implementing the sapta pesona (seven ways of enchantment). People hope that the development of tourist village can promote the village and improve the welfare of their life. Community participation in the development of tourist village is done started from planning, developing facilities and infrastructure, managing, and monitoring and evaluation
WHAT SERVICESCAPES SHOULD BE PRIORITIZED IN THE HOSPITALITY CENTER, UNIVERSITAS NEGERI PADANG?
The Hospitality Center is one of the business incubators managed by the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality of the UNP. Currently, the Hospitality Center provides lodging services and will be equipped with other supporting facilities. Consumers who become the market share of this accommodation are University guests, trainees, students and employees, especially those in Padang State University. As one of the business incubators since UNP changed its status to a Public Service Agency, this unit is expected to be one of the pioneers of income generating which can contribute significantly to the income of the UNP. To increase Occupancy and maximize revenue and Hospitality Center, it is necessary to study the servicescape that is needed (Importance) by guests and how the performance (performance) of the servicescape itself has been provided by the manager. This study seeks to assess the level of importance and performance of each item from servicescapes consisting of ambient conditions, spatial layout and functionality, sign, symbol, and artifacts. The purpose of this study is; to determine the level of importance and performance of servicescapes, so that it can facilitate the assessment and help take action on servicescapes that have been analyzed and grouped into importance performance analysis, it can assess the condition of existing servicescapes and can make priority scales future improvements. The research method used in this study was descriptive method with a quantitative approach by distributing questionnaires to 80 guests who had or were staying at the Hospitality Center, Padang State University. The results of the research trials show that there were no declarations from the instruments prepared. The results of the study show that all the attributes of servicescapes belong to the B quadrant (Maintain Achievement), where the level of importance of servicescapes required by guests, has been met by the manager
CRISIS MANAGEMENT CONDUCTED BY BALI TOURISM BOARD (BTB) DURING THE MOUNT AGUNG VOLCANO ERUPTION
This study aims to determine the implementation of crisis management, which was carried out by the Bali Tourism Board (BTB) in Bali tourism recovery efforts due to the disaster of the Mount Agung eruption. Crisis management is needed to help restore the trust of tourists and tourism industry players and minimize the impact of the crisis on the destination. This research is qualitative research by collecting data using interview methods and documentation. This research shows that the crisis that emerged in Bali's tourism sector was at a serious level, where the crisis caused losses to the Bali tourism industry, both in the form of economic losses and the image of Bali. CHARACTERISTICS AND STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE CHINESE OUTBOUND TOURIST TRAVEL TO INDONESIA
The tourism sector in Indonesia has been established as the main sector in the future. Visits of Chinese tourists ranked highest in 2017 than any other country. The huge potential of China's market in the world demands that the government together with tourism stakeholders jointly increase the number of Chinese tourists visiting Indonesia. This research is a literature study on the characteristics of Chinese outbound tourists from various sources, as well as strategies to increase the visit of Chinese tourists to Indonesia. The results of this literature review are expected to be an input for the development of tourism sector in Indonesia in reaching outbound tourists from China, and can be an inspiration for a suitable research theme in the future
Local Cuisine and Tourists Experience in Bali Through Social Media Practices
Balinese local cuisine has enriched the culinary dictionary for tourists who want to experience the culture and heritage of Bali. Popularity of tourist destination nowadays can be defined by the popularity of the local cuisine as the tourist image brand and image. The purpose of this article is to describe the involvement of local cuisine gradually in tourist experience quality as the integral part of food tourism in Bali. In aims of determining the tourists’ experience in seeking local cuisine and the perception of Balinese local cuisine, specifically nasi campur Bali and ayam betutu in creating food tourism in Bali. In order to develop the exploratory study, the author using exploratory descriptive methodology in this small-scale research. ORGANIZATION CULTURE, COMPETENCY, COMPENSATION, JOB SATISFACTION AND LECTURER LOYALTY
The synergy between tourism education institutions with the government is important to equate the perception that tourism as an independent science is a pride and a challenge for tourism college, including the International Bali Institute of Tourism (STPBI), which organizes vocational education programs. The role of the lecturer becomes very important in this stage. The problems in this research are 1). Does the organizational culture, competence, and compensation affect the job satisfaction of lecturers at STPBI 2). Does the job satisfaction, organizational culture, competence, and compensation affect the loyalty of lecturers at STPBI. This research uses a quantitative approach with Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis tools. The result are, organizational culture, competence, and compensation have positive and significant impact on the job satisfaction of lecturers. Job satisfaction, organizational culture and compensation have positive and significant impact on lecturers' loyalty. However, competence has no significant effect on lecturer's loyalty
