    Get PDF
The 2020 has been a year of many challenges in many professions and also for dance teachers. The daily challenge is to replace existing dance classes with a totally different class structure, which is defined by the governmental restrictions. The dance teachers must react to these restrictions immediately and without any methodological materials and support. In the crisis the dance teachers must use such learning organizational forms as: group, individual and online, and use them as alternatives to one another. Can a dance teacher reach their professional (curriculum) goals by alternating components of the study process? How do the changing circumstances affect dancers and their attendance? The aim of this article is to analyse the possibilities of a dance teacher to reach their professional goals with group, individual and online classes and to determine the dancers satisfaction with these classes. The research is realized in terms of one dance studio and in two stages. The first stage (March-July 2020) were an experimental video-instruction independent training analysis. 40 video materials were grouped in 20 classes and sent to 20 dancers. The second stage (September-January 2020) were group, individual and online class analysis from the teacher’s and dancers perspective. In the second stage 27 dancers and 5 dance teachers were surveyed.

    Get PDF
In the field of psychology resilience of the chronically ill has been studied mostly using quantitative research methods, but there are much fewer qualitative studies. This scoping review aims to collect definitions of resilience, find out, whether resilience development strategies are mentioned and what research approaches are used in qualitative studies about the resilience of the chronically ill. The review was conducted, following the 5-stage framework by Arksey and O’Malley, PRISMA guidelines, and searching in PubMed, PsychInfo, and Scopus databases. The main keywords (patients with chronic illness, resilience, strategies, qualitative studies) were selected according to the Participants/Concept/Context (PCC) framework, 21 articles were included in the review. Resilience mostly was defined as the ability to recover, return to normality, and adapt to new conditions after experiencing stress, illness, or other negative events. In several studies, other terms like coping, personal strength, self-management, and psychological growth were used instead. Lived experiences of the chronically ill show that resilience is not a stable ability, it changes over time. Resilience can be developed, using different strategies, such as having a positive mindset, learning new skills, accepting help, or promoting a healthy lifestyle. Qualitative content analysis and thematic analysis were the most often used research approaches in qualitative studies about the resilience of the chronically ill.

THE EXPRESSION OF LEARNING ORIENTED ASSESSMENT CULTURE: A QUALITATIVE STUDY OF TEACHERS’ PERCEPTIONS ABOUT ASSESSMENT

    Get PDF
This article presents the results of a thematic analysis conducted after informal interviews with 10 teachers and a head teacher of one secondary school in the city of Vilnius about their classroom assessment practices. Part of a larger critical ethnographic research exploring the change of school culture when introducing assessment innovation, this analysis reveals common classroom assessment practices, teachers’ beliefs about the role of assessment, and the anxiety the  school community shares around standardized testing and examinations. Literature suggests that both formative and summative assessment practices have great potential for improving students’ learning. Teachers are encouraged to integrate assessment into their teaching in order to identify where their pupils are in their learning and the steps they need to take for improvement and progress (Gardner, Hayward, Harlen & Stobart, 2008). However convincing the arguments in favour of change are, the external school evaluation data shows that the real change in the way teachers assess students’ progress is very slow and hardly noticed. The concept of learning oriented assessment culture (Birenbaum, 2014) could provide more understanding about the nature of good classroom assessment and necessary conditions that help to sustain school efforts in improving assessment practices.

Work based learning (WBL), introduced in Vocational education and training (VET) system, promises to increase economic competitiveness and development of the knowledge-based economy in Latvia. WBL aims to provide knowledge and understanding regarding types of work in a chosen occupation, build specific competencies needed for work and motivate young people to acquire 21st Century skills for smoother transition from education to sustainable employment and development of their professional career. WBL is closely linked to life-long guidance at all stages of decision making: future occupation or workplace, upskilling or reskilling, acquisition of transferable skills or career management skills. Ensuring effective integration of life-long guidance with WBL three elements are essential: engagement before entering WBL programmes; achievement within WBL to encourage participation and successful completion; transition to work after graduating VET supported by personalised follow-up and on-going career support.WBL is a new approach for most European Union Member States (EU MS), ensuring a positive impact on employment perspectives for students by providing skills demanded by employers and an acceptable level of VET quality, allowing the VET graduate to find a job quickly or obtain a well-paid job. The European Quality Assurance Reference Framework for VET (EQAVET) is an EU instrument to improve the systems of Quality Assurance (QA) in VET, based on a quality cycle and on using performance indicators and self-assessment. EQAVET proposes indicators that could be utilized to monitor VET provision and for peer reviews between EU MS. Most indicators serve as VET performance indicators, however some characterize VET impact on the graduate’s transition to work. Analysis of the positive and negative aspects of VET QA indicators could be the basis for development of WBL and support life-long learning strategies.

    Get PDF
To better understand and analyze the education of evidence-based practice, it is necessary to review the context and premises of the formation of evidence-based practice itself. The beginning of the evidence-based practice movement in the teaching of health professionals’ dates back to 1910 and looking at the health care system; first, there was evidence-based medicine. In 1990, Sackett\u27s initiative at McMaster University in Canada, it was decided to change the term "evidence-based medicine" to "evidence-based practice" (Mackey & Bassendowski, 2017; Thom & Eaves, 2015). In nursing, the beginning of evidence-based practice is linked to the reforms of nursing science and practice by the first nursing researcher, Florence Nightingale, from 1854 to 1910, although the term of “evidence-based practice” was not yet known at the time. The professional training of nurses as one of the leading health professionals is related to health policy and the development of nursing science. The European Qualifications Framework (EHEA) defines the expected learning outcomes for professionals with a bachelor\u27s degree, including the skills to find, evaluate, reflect, and apply scientific information in practice (Bologna Working Group, 2005). Despite international and national recommendations, it is difficult for many higher education institutions to refine the steps of teaching evidence-based practice in nursing study programs. These difficulties are revealed by the ambiguity in the definition of the concept of evidence-based practice (Horntvedt et al. 2018).The problematic question is: What is the basis for integrating evidence-based practice training into college nursing study programs? The study is based on the scientific literature review.
