SKILLS MONITORING IN HEALTHCARE STUDIES – FOR PATIENT SAFETY AND HEALTHCARE QUALITY
The competence of healthcare professionals is crucial in ensuring patient safety and the quality of healthcare. Skills are one of the most important aspects of competence, but often health care employers, when assessing the readiness of young professionals, point out that the ability to implement skills in a real work environment are unclear, insufficient and even inadequate. The paradigm shift in education intends bringing skills to the foreground. In order to promote skills management, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) already in 2016 started work on the institutional level project “Skills Monitoring System” (hereinafter - SMS), focusing primarily on work and profession specific skills in the field of health care studies.Visible and demonstrable monitoring of skills in education is an innovation. The aim of this article is to analyze and reflect the coherence of the RSU Skills Monitoring System concept with the current principles of education policy development, legal framework and basic principles of higher education pedagogy in skills acquisition and evaluation in health care education, as well as to evaluate the initial results of the newly developed system. In order to achieve the goal, an interdisciplinary, qualitative study was conducted, where analytical and descriptive, inductive, deductive and synthesis research and legal (translation) norm methods were implemented, as well as interviews to evaluate initial results. The results of the research show that the components and solutions included in SMS have been developed in accordance with the legal framework and the main educational guidelines, in accordance with the theoretical concepts of pedagogy. An education approach based on simulation integrated in the acquisition of skills allows to systematically evaluate the amount and quality of theoretical knowledge, to determine the actual level of abilities and to predict the quality of performance and compliance with the real work environment. The management of skills acquisition in Higher Education Institutions should be supported and promoted from the point of view of educators, employees and sectoral professional associations and employers.

The aim of this research was to determine whether there are statistically relevant differences in Michael J. Furlong\u27s concept of socio-emotional health with meta construct Covitality (SEV factor) between teenage and youth selections, gender, and nationalities in different schools. The participants of the research were 593 respondents from Latvia, aged 11-19 years. Out of the total selection of participants (N=593) there were 318 teens (M=13.01, SD=.84), of them 151 boys and 167 girls; the other group of 274 young people (M=15.85, SD = 1.02), consisted of 132 males and 142 females. To measure the positive aspects of the mental health, A Socio-emotional Health Survey was used (Social Emotional Health Survey – Secondary, SEHS-S, Furlong, You, Renshaw, & O’Malley; 2014; adapted in Latvian by Kņaze, 2017).There were raised 6 questions in the beginning of the research. Results showed higher results for girls on the scale Belief in Others (its substructure Peer Support) and on the scale Emotional Competence (its substructure Empathy), compared to the selection of boys. The results on the scale Engaged living were statistically higher for teens compared to the selection of the youth. Teens also had higher statistical results of Co-vitality compared to the youth. However, the selection of youth showed statistically higher results in the Emotion Regulation (the substructure of Emotional Competence) compared to the selection of teens. The respondents from city schools showed statistically higher results on the scale Belief in Self, Engaged Living and Co-vitality compared to students from town schools. The Regression Analysis highlights the importance of the school environment in Co-vitality, which explains the 3% variance of the socio-emotional health

Moreover, there is not any strong theoretical framework that links several ideas and theories on which they need for emotional intelligence development in learning schools could be based upon. Regarding this knowledge gap, this article aims to reveal the attitude of school staff about the development of emotional intelligence in the context of a school-learning organization. To achieve this goal, methods were used: scientific analysis of literature and documents and theoretical interpretations. Research results: peculiarities of emotional intelligence development in the context of personality development in the context of learning organization: how emotional intelligence is developed, its meaning and importance, possible perspectives, benefits for personality and organization-school in the context of learning organization (L. Vygotsky theoretical aspect). This justifies the need to organize personnel management and professional development processes in the development of emotional intelligence

Provision of remote services became relevant all over the world, during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Latvian supervisors were also forced to transfer their practice to the digital space as well. COVID-19 pandemic challenges opened a wider range of opportunities for improvement remote practice. Pandemic also highlighted the risks associated with lack of relevant competences. At the global level over the last decade, risks associated with remote counselling summarized in guidelines, providing professionals with examples of best practice. In Latvia, on other hand, such guidelines have not adopted yet. This study developed with the aim to find out the awareness of Latvian supervisors about the risks (cyber security) of using information technology and the protection of personal data in the conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic. To find out how Latvian supervisors are aware about the risks of using information technology (cyber security) and personal data protection, a survey conducted among Latvian supervisors and organizing an expert panel discussion, scientific strength of the study ensured by data triangulation. The obtained results allowed to conclude that the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for supervision remote practice, at the same time the research data show that the awareness of Latvian supervisors about the risks of information technology use (cyber security) and personal data protection is medium to low.The results of the research show that in the education of Latvian supervisors it is necessary to allocate place for the acquisition of information technology (cyber security) risk and personal data protection regulation. This research emphasizes the importance of several supervisors’ competences such as digital knowledge and personal data protection, however further research is needed to find the most effective methods how to improve these competences.
