    ANALYSIS OF THE STARTUP EXPERT SURVEY RESULTS IN LATVIA

    Purpose and aim of the study: The aim of the research is to assess the environment of start-ups in the Latvian business and to find out the opinion of startup experts about factors influencing the start-ups. The tasks of the research are the following: Carry out a theoretical analysis of information about Latvian start-ups; To select and take the survey from experts of startups; To summarize results of surveys. Research period – December 2022 until February 2023. Design / Methodology / Approach: General scientific research methods used in the research: the monographic or descriptive research method, survey method and non-parametric statistic for rank correlation method Kendall\u27s W (Kendall\u27s coefficient of concordance).Main Findings: In research author concludes that the most important factors, which affects startups are financial management and finding/solving the real problem of the customer. Almost half of respondents considers that the regulatory framework in Latvia is complicated. Author concludes that strategic management skills and financial competencies are the most important competencies to start new entrepreneurship. In the performed calculation experts are relatively unanimous. Originality: The originality of the research is based on the increase the total number of startups and the dynamic development of start-up companies in Latvia. So far there are just few scientific articles in Latvia about the topic of start-ups. Startup expert interviews are very important in the industry, in order to evaluate the environment of startups.Implications: The article will promote startup research in Latvia

    Milk production is one of the main sectors of agricultural production. In recent years, milk production has intensified and large dairy farms are emerging. New technologies are entering the industry, and the conditions for keeping and milking cows are changing more and more. The study compares two dairy cow farms in “Sprūževa M” Ltd. of Rēzekne region: one has a milking parlor carousel from company GEA, and the other has nine milking robots from enterprise DeLaval.     TRANSLATION INCONSISTENCIES OF EDUCATIONAL TERMS

    The article by means of extended literature review draws attention to the most common translation inconsistencies that arise in the rendering of word combinations with the concepts education and learning from English into Latvian and vice versa. The novelty and topicality of the article is related to the need to highlight the transformation of the understanding of concepts in connection with the modernization and changes in the field of education. The study was implemented as an interdisciplinary research analysing Latvia’s education policy documents, dissertations, monographs, encyclopaedias, dictionaries and glossaries using induction, deduction and comparison methods. The research findings allow to emphasize the following major translation inconsistencies: superficiality in distinguishing the substantive meaning of the concepts “education” and “learning”, incorporation of the substantive meaning of two terms into one term, direct adoption of Anglicisms into Latvian, lack of equivalents in Latvian language, use of several similar concepts to render one English term into Latvian that embarrasses the perception of the terms’ meaning.

    E-fraud involves fraudulent online payments and e-commerce sites, soliciting personal data or cheating on virtual currency. In recent years, a new type of criminal e-transaction has been identified in Latvia - illegal access to bank accounts and fraud, which tends to Smart-ID users. Criminals are coming up with new ways to obtain money illegally. Often these crimes are transnational in nature, making it difficult for victims to return the money lost. Funds are transferred to payment systems such as cryptocurrencies, which makes it very difficult to track their progress. Police statistics show that hundreds of Latvians suffer from various forms of Internet fraud every year. However, it must be acknowledged that this is largely due to people\u27s credulity and the lack of cyber hygiene in society

    Important role in the Latvian business environment are performance indicators of small and medium-sized enterprises, and the promotion of local food products. Given the rapidly growing global demand for food, small and medium-sized enterprises engaged in local food growing and production must be able to enter international markets. Within the framework of the research, the export of local food products of Latvian small and medium-sized enterprises was studied. During the development of the study, the category of small and medium-sized enterprises was defined by looking at their characteristics. Definitions of local products as well as local foods were examined, concluding that researchers differed on these definitions. The research analyzes the food industry and the most important trends in the structure of Latvian exports of goods. The author of the research also looks at food demand forecasts and the most important trends in the future.
