TRANSITION OF MINORITY SCHOOLS TO TEACHING IN THE STATE LANGUAGE: THE CASE OF POLISH SCHOOLS IN LATGALE
The article examines the Latvian language learning process 1990-2024 in Polish minority schools in Latgale, namely Rezekne Polish State Gymnasium, Daugavpils J. Piłsudski State Polish Gymnasium, Polish primary school named after the Counts Platers in Kraslava. The linguistic attitude of the Polish minority towards Latvian as the state language is emphasized, not only in the school context, but also in the context of the Latgale region. The research was conducted using data obtained in interviews with Latvian language and literature teachers, school principals and acting principal (Krāslava) and content analysis of school documentation. Attention is also drawn to the regulatory enactments, which include the role of the teacher and the Latvian language as a linguistic element in the student\u27s everyday life. In the course of the work, issues related to the transition to education only in the national language were brought up, because September 1, 2024 marks the second year since the introduction and implementation of the "United School" reform in Latvian state educational institutions
DEVELOPMENT OF WRITING SKILLS OF STUDENTS WITH MILD OR MODERATE MENTAL DISORDERS IN PRIMARY SCHOOL
The acquisition of writing skills is influenced by several factors related to a student’s physical and mental development, the environment in which they grow up and learn, as well as the attitudes of others. If any of these factors are disrupted or absent, individual work and various methods employed by special education teachers should be applied to support students with mild or moderate mental disorders in primary school classes in developing their writing skills. The research was conducted with the aim of theoretically and practically analysing the possibilities for developing the writing skills of primary school students with mild or moderate mental disorders in an educational institution that implements a program for students with these conditions. In the course of the study, findings on the acquisition of writing skills for students with mild or moderate mental disorders were analysed. The study investigated the characteristics of students with mild or moderate mental disorders in the pedagogical process and the necessary prerequisites for literacy development. It analysed literature and identified the difficulties students with mental disorders face in acquiring writing skills. Additionally, methods and techniques to support the development of these skills were deliberated, and a methodological tool for writing skill development was created. The research is based on document analysis, the evaluation of results from the use of developed methodological materials, and the analysis of interviews with teachers of five primary school students with mild or moderate mental disorders attending X Primary School, which implements special education programs. As a result of the research, it was concluded that in the modern era, less and less time is devoted to various basic skills. One such skill that the digital age has begun to replace is writing. Students lag behind in writing skills. This requires increased attention from preschool age. Special attention should be paid to the learning of writing skills for children who have mental disorders and prerequisites for the promotion of writing skills must be developed in all subjects, as well as learning should be done in a differentiated manner

“SCHOOLS FOR LADIES AND GENTLEMEN” AS A SPECIFIC FORM OF NON-FORMAL EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN FAR EAST COUNTRIES (China, Japan, South Korea and Singapore)
”Schools for Ladies and Gentlemen" is a term commonly used to determine a non-formal educational institution in some of Far East countries where the students are taught mainly abroad ethics and aesthetics. Such educational institutions can be considered a vestige of the foreign countries` presence on the territory of the countries under consideration in the 19th-20th century, since it was the social activity of some European countries and US that largely determined the shape and value orientation of the education system in China, Japan, South Korea and Singapore in particular. The second half of the 20th century in the countries considered is characterized by a revision of foreign educational trends, which led to the departure of the abroad educational experience from the mass formal education. However, the social prestige of “foreign education” and the introduction of a child to “foreign ethical and aesthetic canons” as an indicator of financial well-being and social elitism has been preserved and has found its expression in the sphere of non-formal education in the form of clubs, circles, the services of private tutors, etc. The article examines the exact forms in which this trend is present in the educational sphere of one or another country in the Far East.
ALCOHOL USE IN A GROUP OF ADOLESCENTS AS SOCIALLY DEFINED DEVIANT BEHAVIOR
Alcohol consumption among adolescents in social theories is considered a formally defined deviant behavior. There is no doubt about the negative health consequences of this behavior, however, several researchers point to its role in the process of growing up and socialization. Along with the development of theories of deviant behavior, the question – whether alcohol consumption among adolescents is still identified as deviant behavior, becomes relevant. To assess the aspect of alcohol consumption as a socially determined deviance, the results of a longitudinal cohort study among Latvian schoolchildren were analyzed. The analysis of the research data includes such indicators as the characteristics of the situation and age of the adolescent when they try to alcohol first and the attitude of parents towards adolescents alcohol use. The research data were compared in four stages from the start of 7th grade (T1) till the end of 9th grade (T4). The results indicate that adolescents are well informed about the legal ban on alcohol consumption (at the beginning of the study in the T1 period, 89.3% were aware of the ban on the use of alcohol by minors). Still, the contradictory behavior of the parents, allowing adolescents to consume alcohol (in the T4 period, 65.9% of students who have consumed alcohol, their parents have permitted to do so) creates an ambiguous perception of alcohol consumption as a deviant behavior among adolescents. In general, this contradiction can reduce the effectiveness of normative and communicative tools in the prevention of alcohol initiation among adolescents. The results of the study confirm - that to delay the initiation of alcohol consumption among adolescents - it is necessary to define alcohol consumption among adolescents as deviant behavior in society as a whole.

INDIVIDUALISATION OF STUDENTS\u27 LEARNING IN GRADES 5-8: EXPERIENCES OF TEACHERS
The article analyses the experiences of teachers in general education schools in the field of individualisation of students’ learning in grades 5–8. It theoretically discusses individualised learning strategies based on the guidelines of universal design for learning approach and teachers’ abilities in selecting approaches to individualise students’ learning. The implementation of individualised learning requires an increasing amount of theoretical and practical preparation of teachers in order to facilitate students\u27 individualised learning. Teachers, therefore, need to explore innovative strategies and approaches to meet the broad and ever-changing learning needs of their students, to diversify their methods and to create dynamic learning experiences for their students. The analysis of the qualitative research findings has revealed that: teachers’ experiences of individualising students\u27 learning are varied, conditioned by the ability to know the personal characteristics and abilities of the student; teachers’ experience of individualising teaching is characterised by a collaborative approach to dialogue and reflection; teachers’ insights into the strengths and weaknesses of their ability to individualise students\u27 learning; and teachers’ insights into practical experiences of using the methods of individualisation
