Globally, the main causes of mortality and disability are associated with non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs), and unhealthy lifestyle are a modifiable risk factor for acquiring these diseases. Adherence to a healthy lifestyle can prevent, treat, and reverse, with a lower cost and greater long-term benefit, the effects of NCDs. Lifestyle Medicine (LM) is a discipline focused on healthy lifestyle, which has been positioning itself in the reality and its introduction into undergraduate medical training, postgraduate training, and continuing medical education is already taking place mainly in the United States of America and Europe. A review of the databases PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar was carried out, with the purpose of documenting a perspective of what the LM is, its effects, forms of application and recent results of its implementation in the health. Fatou’s Theorem; its contribution to harmonic analysis

The objective of this article is to see how Fatou’s theorem, given at the beginning of the 20th century, motivated new developments in harmonic analysis and partial differential equations in the second half of that century. In this writing we give a brief tour of some of the contributions given by distinguished analysis and in this way our interest is to make such progress known in Peru and thus contribute to the development of this beautiful branch of mathematical analysis, which we believe is almost unknown in our country. In particular we have paid some attention to the work of Jerison - Kenig [1] because such work contains an overview that helps meet our objective. The objective of this article is to see how Fatou’s theorem, given at the beginning of the 20th century, motivated new developments in harmonic analysis and partial differential equations in the second half of that century. A ficitionalist approach to the ontology of mathematics

Mathematics is defined as the study and development of conceptual interpreted formal systemsthat are closed by deduction. These systems are not merely syntactic in the manner of logisticsystems. They are interpreted, but their reference class is constituted by conceptual artifacts.Mathematical constructs are human-made creations that exist solely within the context of a specificformal system. Consequently, mathematics is devoid of any ontological import. The referents ofmathematics cannot exist independently of the human mind. The theory is consistent with anygeneral materialist worldview

    No full text
Metabolic syndrome has been developing over the years, affecting a significant percentage of the population, thus increasing the probability of developing more severe pathologies. In this situation, curcumin, a compound belonging to turmeric, stands out for its health benefits, by counteracting the effects of metabolic syndrome by regulating key enzymes in related biochemical pathways, such as glycolysis, lipolysis, lipogenesis, among others; as well as, with the reduction of oxidative stress and inflammation. Together, these long-term benefits reduce or reverse the progress of metabolic syndrome towards a more serious condition. Multiple studies, including randomized clinical studies and other bibliographic reviews, have verified the effectiveness of curcumin against different alterations, having positive results. Furthermore, recent research, including clinical studies in humans and animals, have shown that curcumin is not toxic, since even at high doses it does not produce significant alterations. On the contrary, brings benefits to the human lifestyle. While more studies are needed to better understand the full effects of curcumin. Even so, it is promising as a chemopreventive agent against the development of metabolic syndrome and its sequelae, as long as, curcumin and its derivatives are integrated as part of the components of future medications or treatments in different diseases, especially metabolic syn.

Nutrients and foods associated with people's emotional state: Scientific advances and future perspectives

    No full text
This review is scientific research that seeks to explore the relationship between the consumption of certain foods and the emotional state, determining the effects that these foods produce when consumed by individuals. The intake of specific foods containing certain functional properties may help enhance our emotional health. There are particular nutrients present in certain foods that play an important role in overall health, especially in brain function. The objective of this review study was to highlight double-blind studies in humans that demonstrate the effectiveness of nutrients present in foods that interact with neurotransmitters (melatonin, endorphins, serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin), which affect people's mood and well-being. For this study, specialized journals and scientific articles published in the last five years were selected. The results show that there is a wide variety of foods that contribute to people's well-being when consumed, and that this is not exclusive to a particular group of foods. Thus, meat products, dairy products, fruits, vegetables, and seafood, among others, contain nutrients with functional properties associated with people's emotional state. Finally, future studies should incorporate other variables such as ethnic groups, race, age, and body type, which may affect the results obtained

The study investigates the phytochemical profiles of selected wild local vegetables in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, assessing their potential health benefits in addressing nutritional deficiencies prevalent in the region. A comprehensive analysis was conducted on key metabolites, including phenols, flavonoids, carotenoids, alkaloids, phytosterol, terpenoid, saponin, and glucosinolates. The vegetables examined in this study included Solanum torvum, Cnesmone javanica, Gymnopetalum cochinense, Stenochlaena palustris, Helminthostachys zeylanica, Nauclea orientalis, Neptunia oleraceae, Crinum sp., Etlingera elatior, Calamus sp., Solanum ferox, Colocasia esculenta, Diplazium esculentum, and Rorippa indica. Using the Folin-Ciocalteu method, the total phenolic content in the ethanolic extract ranged from 107.20 to 7393.10 mg GAE 100 g-1. Total flavonoids varied from 27.17-1163.82 mg QE 100 g-1 fresh weight. Carotenoids, alkaloids, phytosterols, terpenoid, saponin ranging from 1.273-1448.80 mg 100 g-1, 78.94-1061.67 mg 100 g-1, 168.33 - 4926.67 mg 100 g-1, 914.44-15503.33 mg 100 g-1, respectively. Additionally, saponins and glucosinolates were found in concentrations ranging from 1742.22 to 19164.44 mg 100 g-1, and 92.4 to 4726.52 mg 100 g-1, respectively. N. orientalis, N. oleracea, and R. indica showed strong potential as functional foods due to their high levels of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. R. indica and D. esculentum stand out for their rich carotenoid. Additionally, the substantial amounts of phytosterols, saponins, glucosinolates, and terpenoids in N. oleracea, H. zeylanica, R. indica, and D. esculentum. Linking phytochemicals to health supports targeted diets for vulnerable groups, strengthened through diverse local vegetables and culturally adapted functional food products

Perturbation of a biological control model of malaria considering species competition

    No full text
This work studies a mathematical model describing the transmission dynamics of malaria, incorporating intraspecific competition in human and mosquito populations, and biological control through larvivorous fish. We prove the existence of a compact attracting set for the proposed system of differential equations. Through stability analysis, we characterize the disease-free and endemic equilibrium points, determining epidemiologically relevant thresholds. The basic reproduction number (R0) is a key parameter: when R0 ≤ 1, the disease-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable, whereas for R0 > 1, a stable endemic equilibrium emerges. Numerical simulations validate the theoretical results and reveal the regulatory effect of intraspecific competition on disease prevalence. Finally, we generalize previous models by incorporating competitive interactions and vector management strategies. This work studies a mathematical model describing the transmission dynamics of malaria, incorporating intraspecific competition in human and mosquito populations, and biological control through larvivorous fish.
