Mental distress in subjects who did, or did not, move from rural Sami core areas to cities in Norway: The impact of Sami ethnicity
The aim of the study was to compare the level of mental distress of Sami and non-Sami residents in rural Sami core areas with that of people who have moved from these areas to cities in Norway. Previous research on mental health among the adult Sami population has mainly been conducted in rural areas, and there is a knowledge gap concerning the mental health of urban Sami. This study has a cross-sectional design and is based on self-administered questionnaires in two different surveys: the SAMINOR 2 Questionnaire Survey (2012) and the survey From Rural to Urban Living (2014). The total analytical sample consists of 5942 individuals: 3955 rural participants (SAMINOR 2) and 1987 urban participants (From Rural to Urban Living). Chi-square tests, two-sample t-tests, and Wilcoxon’s rank sum tests were used for testing differences between the groups. Multiple linear regression analysis was applied to explore the association between place of residence and a continuous mental distress (HSCL-10) score. Logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the association between place of residence and the prevalence of mental distress, as defined as a HSCL-10 score of ≥1.85. The analyses were stratified by gender and Sami and non-Sami ethnicity. The results show that when comparing people who have moved to a city with people living in rural areas, differences in mental distress were found among non-Sami women only, with a lower level of mental distress in urban non-Sami women. In men, regardless of ethnicity and in Sami women, living in rural or urban areas did not make a difference in their mental distress status.

This article describes some of the lessons that the Knowledge Network for Sami Health has learned in four years of working with Sami healthcare development. The article describes challenges and opportunities in the area, and sheds light on the potential for future development. The Knowledge Network for Sami Health is a collaborative effort between Region Norrbotten, Region Västerbotten, Region Jämtland Härjedalen, Region Dalarna, the Sami Parliament and multiple Sami organisations. The article provides an outline background of why healthcare needs to be adapted to Sami people. The article sheds light on the need for increased Sami cultural competence to improve the interaction and communication between Sami patients and those working in the health care system. Other identified challenges are geographic and linguistic accessibility, and the fact that the existing Sami competence amongst health care professionals has not been used in a purposeful way. The article ties into on-going change efforts for sustainable healthcare. Interesting areas of development that are being explored are: 1) Internal and external collaboration with municipalities, regions and across national borders that are central to addressing the challenges that exist with a language- and culture-adapted care. 2) Digital solutions as a possibility to make the existing Sami competence available and synergetic. 3) Sami participation as fundamental to confidence and trust.

During higher education, a significant number of degree reports have been reported during the period 2003-2020, where students have paid specific attention to traffic safety, emergency driving and risk-taking in connection with transport and relocation in road traffic environment. In the study, a total of 38 degree reports were analyzed from a traffic medicine perspective on subject choice, applied theories/concepts and scientific methods. 17 degree reports focused on ambulance personnel while other scientific work dealt with the working conditions of police personnel. The students' choice of subject is described on the basis of a basic scientific structure, the so-called the Haddon matrix. A result of the analysis shows that there has been a great deal of interest in road safety as well as injury prevention work and initiatives. The article also include questions about challenges with a continued focus on risk awareness and preventive perspectives and emergency driving with police vehicles and ambulance vehicles.
AbstractDrawing on the concept of school foodscape, the aim of this study is to examine pupils' perceptions and experiences of vegetarian school food in order to gain a deeper understanding of children's food choices and how it can change. Twenty-three semi-structured group interviews with 76 pupils in three schools have been analysed. The results show that the pupils' main reasons for choosing or rejecting vegetarian food differed from those of adults. Resistance towardsvegetarian school food was not based on prejudices against vegetarianism, but on various taste and recognition factors. Instead of health and environmental reasons, the pupils highlighted different animal ethical reasons. The students' perceptions reflected their families’ norms and values of food and eating, rather than their gender. Finally, pedagogical implications of the result are discussed
The Swedish strategy for handling the coronavirus pandemic is internationally distinctive. While other countries shut down big parts of society and order citizens to stay at home, the Swedish approach is one of information and ”enlightenment” where citizens are expected to voluntarily regulate themselves. Swedish citizens are to be educated rather than prohibited. This article is based on interviews with 10 voluntary civil organizations, and explores the ”educational imaginaries” that signifies their actions during the crisis. The article shows that citizen education becomes a way to manage the crisis, by relaying governmental information to target groups that would otherwise be hard to reach, but also that the crisis becomes a way to initiate educational efforts both broadly and specifically, within the organization as well as towards its target groups
