American Attitudes toward Mexican Immigration
In this article, the author recognizes the negative sentiments many Americans have towards Mexican immigrants, despite their historical roots in this nation and their economical contributions to American society. The questionable manner in which the acquisition of Texas and other states through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo are discussed. Mexcian immigrants later played a pivotal role in sustaining economic activity as the U.S. focused on World War I & II, but their labor was often exploited through low pay and long hours. Even in modern times, American citizens have not developed an appreciation for the contributions of the Mexican immigrant and are seeking ways to limit their migration into the United States
Book Review: Divide & Conquer: Race, Gangs, Identity, and Conflict (Studies in Transgression) by Robert D. Weide
When you hear the term “gangs” what is it that comes to mind? Los Angeles is notoriously known for its subculture of gangs and subsequent gang violence, from the likes of Crips co- founder Stanley “Tookie” Williams as well as Sylvester Scott, who is credited with the advent of the original Blood gangs. Popular media is obsessed with stories of these gangs and its members– whether in sensationalized reports on Fox 11 News or fictionalized stories playing out in TV shows or box office movies, like Boyz in the Hood or Colors. Such portrayals become in fact dehumanizing by reinforcing a narrative of depravity instead of recognizing the reality that gang members are among “the most marginalized, demonized, and criminalized population in America and throughout much of the capitalist world” (Weide 2022:7-8). This insider participant observation ethnographic case study serves as an in-depth look into the humanity and nuance of the lived experience for Sureño-affiliated, Crip and Blood gang members in Los Angeles
Fostering Resilience in Experiential Learning Courses
A focus on resilience in experiential education provides students in pre-professional programs opportunities to reflect upon their experiences as interns while also supporting their mental health and professional growth. Faculty must help students to identify strategies to manage stress and develop professional norms needed to thrive in a variety of work environments – whether in-person, hybrid, or remote. Capstone internship experiences offer an ideal setting to help students develop practical skills to support their personal and professional growth and identify their personal values and priorities. Field experience courses can foster student resilience by incorporating time for student journaling and reflection into all class meetings, encouraging students to identify strategies to forge a healthy work-life balance, and focusing on professional socialization by curating their online presence and mastering online collaborative tools such as Microsoft Teams that are vital elements of hybrid and remote work settings

The Central Issues of the Women’s Liberation Movement
This paper examines the Women’s Liberation Movement, the generalized construct of women in society, and the underlying grievances of the Women’s Movement. Feminist scholars divide the movement in three “waves” that categorize the different aspects and issues historically and currently. Throughout most of history, male dominance has been the primary social order. As a result, women have been considered inferior and naturally incompetent, both physically and intellectually, compared to men. Today, women are still being socialized through generations of traditional beliefs about gender. Thus, feminism will still continue as long as we do not address this social issue
