Abuse of Power: Sexual Abuse in the Federal Prison System
There is a systemic pattern of federal prison staff using their power over inmates to coerce victims into sexually abusive situations. Inside federal institutions, staff works to protect each other from facing the consequences of their actions. On a broader scale, the Bureau of Prisons does not effectively investigate all allegations of abuse, enabling abusive individuals and institutions to remain undetected. This is a serious matter as victims are left vulnerable to sexual abuse and there is no recourse to prevent future victimizations. Prison inmates are human beings who are currently and historically been silenced and subject to abhorrent sexual abuse, their reality must be taken seriously, researched, properly investigated, and prosecuted to the fullest extent.
This paper examines how the federal prison staff constructs cultures of sexual abuse that are systemically maintained by the Bureau of Prisons. The analysis draws evidence from previous research, investigative journalism, and a Senate report all of which detail sexual abuse inside the federal prison system. Within four sections, the paper outlines the roles and cultures of sexual predators, how sexual abuse occurs, how sexually abusive environments are cultivated, and the systemic failures of the Bureau of Prisons.
Annual Review of Criminal Justice Studies - Volume 1
ARCJS is an open-access journal that publishes scholarly writingspertinent to the critical analyses of law, crime and justice systemsand their entanglement with larger political economic processes.ARCJS contributors explore how ideas and systems of crime, lawand justice shape broader issues of social justice, especially thoserelated to the experience of race, class, gender, sexuality, and ageinequality in the U.S.
Ranging from the conception to the implementation to thetransformation of law, crime and justice systems and ideas,ARCJS includes ethically reasoned critical analyses intent oncontributing to the assessment of alternative solutions toproblems associated with the identification, control andprevention of crime and delinquency
Gender and Division of Household Labor
This paper discusses numerous variables that impact the division of household labor between men and women— income, race, education, gender ideologies, age, marital status, employment status, and presence of children in the home—and sheds light on the unequal distribution of household labor between men and women, which impacts the overall well being and advancement of the female gender
An Exploratory Look at Solidarity and Support between Siblings in Young and Middle Adulthood
This literature review explicitly centers on both solidarity and support of sibling relationships. Past research and analysis has clearly demonstrated that four variables—birth order of siblings, gender of siblings, family size and paternal framework—are vital and necessary to any research on siblings. However, there is no apparent research that has included a complete analysis of how these specific factors shape and mold the sibling relationships among young individuals emerging from adolescence into adulthood. Therefore, to complete the gap in literature, more analysis is necessary on the solidarity and support of young and middle aged adults
Residential Patterns of Chinese and Korean Americans in Greater Los Angeles
This article elaborates on why the residential patterns of Korean Americans and Chinese Americans vary. The affluent class of the Chinese Americans has developed a privileged version of an ethnic enclave within the San Gabriel Valley while the Korean Americans are dispersed within the Greater Los Angeles Area. The affluent Chinese have moved from the mainland to the San Gabriel Valley because of a high concentration of already present Chinese American inhabitants. On the other hand, Korean Americans have always been dispersed within the Greater Los Angeles area and therefore do not have a specified area that is highly concentrated. Historical sequences from these two ethnic groups also perpetuate these trends
Factors Influencing Changing Religions for Marriage and The Impact Of Such a Change.
This article highlights the notion that religiosity is based on marital relationships and also examines factors influencing changing religions for marriage and the impact of such a change. Findings based on previous submitted research premise this argument on religion and its affects on factors such as family, marital partners, and children. It is believed that religion has a major impact on many factors of family life and delves into the idea that religion is changed along with marital partners or with the affects of family life. It is also believed that many social problems could be attributed to choice of religion and or religious affiliation of marital partner. This paper also details the adverse affect on children’s perception of religion
Polynomials in Fp[x] Which Commute Under Composition
Let F be a finite field and let f be a linear polynomial in F[x]. We investigate the number of polynomials of degree d which commute with f under composition. In so doing, we rediscover a result of Park, but with a conceptually simpler proof
Runs of Consecutive Integers Having the Same Number of Divisors
Our objective is to provide an upper bound for the length ℓN of the longest run of consecutive integers smaller than N which have the same number of divisors. We prove in an elementary way that log ℓN << (log N log log N)λ, where λ=1/2. Using estimates for the Jacobsthal function, we then improve the result to λ=1/3

On Determining the Equation of a Salkowski Curve Satisfying tau/kappa=1/s
In this paper, we determine the equation of a Salkowski curve whose ratio of torsion to curvature is given by 1/s, where s is the arc length of the curve. The Frenet-Serret equations provide the third-order vector differential equation for the unit tangent vector T(s) and the general (series) solution was obtained. In the end, the series solution is entirely determined by the given initial conditions
