Clinical Analysis of Pregnant Women with COVID-19 in Bulgaria
Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic remains a global threat. The clinical course of the infection in pregnant women and its impact on their fetuses are currently discussed topics among medical specialists.Aim: The aim of this article is to evaluate the clinical course of COVID-19 in pregnant women and assess the effects of the disease on their fetuses.Material and Methods: Ten pregnant women in the third trimester with COVID-19, hospitalised at the labour ward of St. Anna Hospital in Varna were examined between November 2020 and May 2021. A clinical and laboratory study was conducted. The nasopharyngeal swab samples were collected and tested positive using reversed transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (COVID-19 real-time PCR). Cardiotocography and abdominal ultrasound were used to evaluate the fetuses’ condition. Statistic methods were used for data processing. Results: The clinical presentation of coronavirus infection of the ten hospitalized pregnant women with COVID-19 includes fever, cough, shortness of breath, and fatigue. The laboratory tests revealed absolute lymphopenia, elevated C-reactive protein, and elevated D-dimer. All women showed evidence of hypoxemia, accompanied in 90% of cases by respiratory alkalosis. No signs of preterm birth or presence of fetal distress were established. Conclusion: The clinical course of COVID-19 showed no difference in pregnant women and non-pregnant individuals. However, the physiological adaptation to pregnancy with its clinical and laboratory variations may make assessing the effects of COVID-19 on pregnant women difficult. In mild and moderate cases, COVID-19 does not aggravate the course of pregnancy and does not threaten the fetal condition. Additional systematic studies are needed to evaluate the effects of COVID-19 on pregnant women.
The effect of 10% lidocaine on the surface oral sensation and gag reflex (in the prosthetic treatment of patients)
IntroductionThe gag reflex is a response to tactile irritation of sensory receptors from richly innervated areas. According to some authors, the etiology of nausea during dental treatment is related to various factors. Lidocaine hydrochloride blocks the conduction of a nerve impulse, reducing the increased throat reflex.AimThe aim of this article is to study the application of 10% lidocaine in relation to gag reflex and oral sensitivity in prosthetic treatment.Materials and MethodsFrom December 2022 until May 2023, 121 patients were examined. The mean age of this group was 54.5 ± 10. The female patients were 57% and 43% were male. The research was done in two steps using individual sterile swabs and plastic fibers—monofilaments (MF). The first step included assessment of the palatal reflex and mucosal surface sensitivity in the areas activating the nausea reflex before the use of the contact anesthetic lidocaine (10%). The second step repeated the algorithm of the first examination, but after the application of the contact anesthetic. The data were written in tables and analyzed with the statistical package IBM SPSS Version 26. The level of significance was chosen to be p < 0.05 at which the null hypothesis was rejected. Results and DiscussionThe most sensitive areas of the oropharynx were the posterior palatal area (A-line) and the posterior third of the tongue. The gag reflex was strongest in the most sensitive areas—the A-line and the posterior third of the tongue.ConclusionThe gag reflex occurs more frequently when testing with the sterile viscous tip than when testing with MF. It depends on the size of the receptor field
Comparative analysis of the entrepreneurial attitudes and intentions of students from some majors at Varna University of Economics
The report presents the results of a survey among current students from several bachelor and master programs at the University of Economics Varna, focused on their entrepreneurial attitudes and intentions. The study is based on the theory of planned behavior. Entrepreneurial intentions are assessed based on the likelihood of owning their own business as well as in hypothesized situations - grant funding, unemployment, combining with raising children.„Entrepreneurial attitudes“ were assessed with 5 principal components related to an assessment of the degree to which the person is attracted to, ready for, and motivated for such a career. Attitudes about "subjective norms" were measured by the person's assessment of the reaction of those closest to him or her to the possible decision to become self-employed. Self-assessment by individuals of how successfully they could start and run their own business was used to examine „perceived behavioral control “
Effects of the end of free movement on the supply chains in the United Kingdom
The term "Supply Chain" can be explained as the whole network of businesses and individuals which are collaborating in order to produce and distribute a final good or service.Supply Chains are nowadays interconnected and can be easily influenced by foreseen and unforeseen events. Brexit affected the supply chains in the United Kingdom in a negative way and caused disruptions. One of the main factors caused by Brexit which is influencing the supply chains is the end of free movement. This study aims to analyze the effects of the end of free movement on the supply chains in the United Kingdom based on a literature review and personal reflection on the topic. The Business had to rearrange the supply chains and implement changes in order to make the supply chains resilient in the turbulent times. The post- Brexit immigration system introduced visa requirements for EU citizen which caused lack of workers in different areas and led to delays and struggles in the supply chains. Companies had to find different solutions for the labor crisis like increasing automation and hiring non-EU workers. The effects of the end of free movement will be ongoing and will be a topic for research and observation in the next years
Onboarding process automation
Automating this process, related not only to new and existing employees, but also to HR, employee department managers, and IT staff, can make the process and all related tasks more efficient to save time and avoid human errors. New hires will know the steps of the process and will be more likely to begin the actual work for which they were hired. Employees from the HR department will be able to focus on more important tasks, for example, on the adaptation of newly arrived employees or on interviewing with the departing employee. Automating the process of onboarding can also be a step towards automating other repetitive actions in the HR or IT department
Using artificial intelligence in software development
The AI use is also heavily influencing software development. The demands on software are many, including its continuous update and ever-shorter development cycles. There is a growing need for shorter development cycles, flexibility and meeting requirements without compromising software quality. AI can help meet these requirements in software development. AI supports these goals. AI tools aid software development by supporting almost all development activities. It aids testing by making it faster and more efficient. The main possibilities to support activities in the different phases of software production are presented, based on tools that are available on the market and prototypes exploring the possible AI applications. The research purpose is to study the modern capabilities of AI in the domain of software production, its application limitations and to determine its role and place in software production
Knowledge management and lifelong learning - some aspects of their development in Bulgaria
The modern economy is characterized by globalization of processes and a high degree of digitization nowadays. The dynamism, competitiveness, the increased migration of the population and, in particular, of labor resources, lead to the need of constant search for new ways of doing things. In this regard, today the key role of an extremely valuable resource is acquired by knowledge. Moreover, the intangible resources to which they refer are crucial for the success of organizations. Achieving sustainability in economic, social and cultural terms implies the generation, acquisition and effective use of knowledge. This is closely related to supplemental learning of already acquired knowledge and skills. The purpose of this article is to characterize knowledge and its management and to analyze the degree of implementation of the lifelong learning strategy in Bulgaria
