Hemostasis in postextraction sites—perioperative management
Introduction: Managing perioperative bleeding and achieving effective hemostasis are key components of a successful surgical procedure. Uncontrolled hemorrhage can compromise clinical outcomes or even lead to life-threatening consequences. Mechanical methods for hemostasis such as local compression have proven to be a foundation for hemorrhage control. In some cases, however, pressure alone may be insufficient, leading to the need of additional methods to be used. Careful planning, awareness of often complex medical history of patients as well as thorough knowledge of different types of agents and techniques for hemostasis are an important part of a successful surgical procedure.Aim: The aim of this literature review is to assess factors and conditions interfering with the physiological process of hemostasis and their perioperative management.Materials and Methods: The present study relies on literature data available in PubMed, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and ScienceGate from 1976 to 2024, with an emphasis on literature from the past 5 years. Results: This literature review is based on publications that provided detailed information about bleeding complications during oral surgery, management of patients with compromised hemostasis, and methods for hemorrhage control. Conclusion: Achieving effective hemostasis is a mandatory step of every surgical intervention. In the reality of patients’ often complex medical history, diverse medication intake and the immense variety of measures for obtaining hemostasis, it is expected that the dental specialist would need more clarification and guidance when it comes to hemorrhage control

Strategic aspects of mediation in the workplace
In the context of the sustainable development of the business organization, mediation can be successfully used as a management tool. At the workplace, it can be carried out by trained mediators (internal or external) or by managers who are trained in using mediation techniques in their practice. Mediation at the workplace can also be considered as an element of the strategic policy of the business organization, in terms of sustainable management of its internal environment. The paper comments on key aspects of mediation in the workplace, presenting examples of its application in a real business organization. On this basis, conclusions and recommendations are systematized about the benefits and risks that accompany its implementation and subsequent development in the workplace. The scope of problems that can be solved through mediation is synthesized and the opportunities for the business organization to form and develop competitive advantages through it are systematized
Emotions as a determinant of tourist motivation: peculiarities of Bulgaria as a “destination of experiences”
The modern stage of societal development requires not only knowledge in the field of economics, but also of human psychology. The choice of a tourist product has always been influenced by different rational and irrational (subjective) factors. As an intrinsic characteristic of every human being, emotion provokes decisions that could maximize pleasure and serve as stimuli for mental arousal. Bulgaria's rich tourist resource potential creates real opportunities for obtaining a tourist experience based on the symbolic dimensions of the tourism product. The present study reveals the systematic interrelation between consciousness, emotion and consumer value and examines the peculiarities of Bulgaria in the context of its transformation into a destination for diverse emotional experiences
Artificial intelligence and workplace innovations - opportunities, challenges, benefits
At the present stage, the issue of the influence of digital technologies and artificial intelligence on the transformation of workplaces is gaining increasing relevance in the theory and practice of business management. The article discusses the concept of workplace innovation and presents the author's points of view on this concept. Based on an analysis of theoretical and empirical research, the opportunities, challenges and benefits that artificial intelligence creates for innovative workplace changes are highlighted. The problem is also analysed empirically on the example of one of the manifestations of the innovation potential of digital technologies –platform work. Results of an empirical study among platform workers from Bulgaria show that working through a platform is perceived by the respondents as a new form of self-employment, which creates opportunities for additional income, for a better work-life balance, flexibility and retention in the labour market. Conclusions and recommendations from the research are formulated
Challenges for women in the maritime industry
The development of shipping in the world presents all the greater challenges and prospects for the professional realization of women in the sector. The reasons for this can be found both in the growing needs of personnel on the labor market and in the physiological and psychological demands on the individual specific to the maritime profession. The current state presents the leading factors that influence the motivation of women to work in the shipping industry and highlights the main challenges they face in their professional development
Cyber defense as a key element for the protection of the national security of the republic of Bulgaria
At the beginning of the third decade of the XXI st century, cyberspace is increasingly clearly taking shape as a fifth domain for conducting combat operations with a different purpose, intensity, and nature. Countering cyberattacks and hybrid operations directed against the management systems of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria requires the application of a complex approach to achieve the necessary managerial, technical-technological, organizational and political capacity to implement a cyber defense policy that is relevant to these of our partner member states of NATO and the EU, as well as building a common one at the Union level
Late Diagnosis of Urinary Peritonitis Due to a Lesion of the Left Ureter During Laparoscopic Anterior Resection of the Rectum—Laparoscopic Solution. Clinical Case and Literature Review
Ureteral lesions are a rare complication of colorectal surgery. This type of surgical procedure is the second most common cause of such complications, second only to gynecological operations, which account for around 50%. According to the localization of the lesion, they аre grouped into three types: injury to the proximal, middle, and distal part of the ureter, with the latter being the most common—around 80–90%. Most of the lesions are not recognized intraoperatively and sometimes the diagnosis can be delayed significantly. The time of diagnosis and the localization of the injury are crucial to the choice of treatment. We present a case of a patient, with a late diagnosis of lesion of the left ureter after the laparoscopic anterior resection of the rectum, which was treated with a laparoscopic uretero-ureteral anastomosis with simultaneous double-J catheterization. We also present a short literature review on the subject
High Versus Low Inferior Mesenteric Artery Ligation in Rectal Cancer Surgery. A Retrospective Analysis and Review of the Literature
Introduction: Colorectal cancer is the leading cause for cancer-related mortality in both sexes worldwide. Around 30% of all colorectal cancers are situated in the rectum. They have worse clinical outcomes. Laparoscopic total mesorectal excision (TME), described first by Heald et al. in 1982, is a gold standard of treatment for rectal cancer. During the procedure the inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) should be ligated. However, whether high or low, the ligation is still controversial. Aim: The aim of this article is to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of both low and high IMA ligation during laparoscopic TME for rectal cancer treatment.Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 77 patients operated in our department for a period of 1 year, between January 2021 and January 2022. We gathered data for gender, hospital stay, pathology findings, and perioperative complications, including anastomotic leakage, anastomotic stricture, genitourinary dysfunction, survival. We conducted a literature review and compared the results with our own experience. Results: We performed laparoscopic TME with high IMA ligation in 53 men and 24 women. The mean operative time was 270 min. The mean hospital stay was 5 days. During the period we detected anastomotic leakage in 2 patients and no strictures of the anastomosis were identified 30 days after the procedure. Conclusion: High IMA ligation is a safe and effective enough operative technique in rectal cancer treatment, which, when properly performed, does not lead to more perioperative complications than low IMA ligation, except for some anatomically related reasons
Thalassotherapy awareness among pregnant women
Thalassotherapy, originating from the Greek term "thalassa" meaning sea, harnesses the therapeutic potential of mineral-rich seawater and marine elements such as seaweed, sea mud, sand, and sea breeze. Objective: To study the awareness of pregnant women about the methods of thalassotherapy and their application during and after pregnancy.Materials and methods: The study involved 229 pregnant women at various pregnancy stages, utilizing surveys and documentary analysis as research tools. Results and Discussion: The findings highlight that a considerable portion of surveyed pregnant women lack adequate awareness of the benefits provided by thalassotherapy techniques. Encouragingly, a significant number of respondents express interest in deepening their understanding of this therapeutic approach. Primary sources of information include consultations with healthcare professionals (doctors, midwives) and medical offices. Factors hindering thalassotherapy adoption include limited familiarity with the method and concerns about potential side effects. Recognizing the healing properties of seawater and marine elements, the study emphasizes the necessity of promoting thalassotherapy methods. Conclusion: The study's outcomes lead to several conclusions. Firstly, pregnant women generally lack familiarity with thalassotherapy methods. However, the positive aspect lies in their willingness to explore and receive additional information about its utilization during and post-pregnancy. This underscores the role of midwifery in health promotion, prevention, and proactive care
