Performance Evaluation of Bluetooth Low Energy Communication

    Get PDF
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), also known as Bluetooth Smart is the new power efficient version of Bluetooth. With the massive increase in the use of IoT devices, their compatibility and suitability for use with BLE, it has become an important protocol for communication. The performance of the protocol in terms of throughput, however, remains untested. Several parameters like connection interval, packet size per connection interval, data length extension and others constitute the implementation of the BLE protocol on a device. These parameters directly or indirectly effect the throughput of devices communicating over BLE. In this paper, we evaluated BLE performance by performing experiments to calculate throughput with varying values of connection interval and MTU size of application payload. We provide experimental values of throughput and compare it with the theoretically expected results and discuss the pattern and aberration found

Enhancing University Administration through ICTs in Nigeria

    Get PDF
The importance of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in enhancing university administration cannot be over-emphasised. However, there are many challenges facing the use of ICTs in the effective and efficient delivery of services in universities in Nigeria. The main objective of the paper is, therefore, to examine the challenges and proffer sustainable solutions. The General System Theory was adopted as the theoretical framework for the study. The research is descriptive and quantitative. Sources of data were primary and secondary while a well-structured questionnaire was used to elicit information from one hundred and seventy four (174) respondents, randomly selected out of an estimated population of three thousand, five hundred (3,500) ICT users, comprising academic, non-teaching staff and students from three universities (federal -1, state -1 and private -1) in Ogun State, reputed to be the only state with the highest number of universities in Nigeria. Relevant hypotheses were tested and the data were presented using tables and percentages. Chi-Square and ANOVA statistical tools were used to analyse the data. Findings show that the challenges facing the use of ICTs in the universities include high cost of ICTs, low computer-literacy among university staff and students, epileptic power supply, absence of ICT policies and poor political-will to implement such policies, where they exist. The paper concludes that the prospects are bright and that more universities would embrace the use of ICTs in their operations when the identified challenges are tackled

Comparative Test of the Effect of Corruption on life satisfaction in East Asia and Latin America

    Get PDF
This study contributes to growing research on the determinants of subjective wellbeing (SWB). We explored the relationship between corruption perceptions index (CPI) and SWB using panel data for Latin America and East Asia & Pacific countries. Our results suggested that CPI has U-shaped link with SWB in Latin America, while it was insignificantly related to SWB in East Asia and Pacific

Branch and Bound Method to Solve The Sum of Two Objective Functions

    Get PDF
In this paper, the problem of sequencing a set of n jobs on single machine was considered to minimize multiple objectives function (MOF). The objective  is to find the optimal  solution (scheduling) for n independent jobs to minimize the objective function consists of a sum  of  weighted number  of  early  jobs  and  total  weighted of completion time. This problem is strongly NP-hard and to resolve it we derived two lower bounds (LB1, LB2) and heuristic method to get an upper bound which are used in root node of branch and bound tree. Some special cases  and dominance rule were proposed and proved. Results of extensive computational tests show that the proposed (BAB) algorithm effective in solving problems with up to (30)  jobs in time less than or equal to (30) minutes

Local search Methods to Solve The Sum of Two Objective Functions

In this paper, the problem of sequencing a set of n jobs on single machine was considered to minimize theobjective function. The aim  is to find the optimal or near optimal  solution  (scheduling) for the objective function consists of a  sum  of  total late work and maximum lateness. This problem is strongly NP-hard. Simulated Annealing, Ant colony Algorithm, and usagea hybridization as a tool to solved the problem approximatelywith up to  100000 jobs in a reasonable time 10 minutes

Potentially eventually exponentially positive sign patterns of the specific form

    Get PDF
An n × n sign pattern A is said to be potentially eventually exponentiallypositive (PEEP) if there exists some real matrix A with the same signpattern as A and some nonnegative integer t0 such that for all t ≥ t0,etA =X∞k=0tkAkk!> 0.Identifying the necessary and sufficient conditions for an n × n(n ≥ 4)sign pattern to be PEEP and classifying all PEEP sign patterns are twoopen problems. In this short note, we investigate the potential eventualexponential positivity of one class of sign patterns A of the specific form.It is shown that for the special class of sign patterns, A is PEEP if and onlyif all the nonzero off-diagonal entries of A is positive, which classifies all itsPEEP sign patterns of the specific form. Our result indicates that thereexist exactly one minimal PEEP sign pattern in the class of sign patternsof the specific form

A Descriptive Analysis on Usage of Online Knowledge Sharing Technology in Malaysian Research Universities

    Get PDF
This study investigates the level of usage of online knowledge sharing technology among academics in Malaysian research universities. The prerequisite to successful knowledge sharing is the acceptance and utilization of the knowledge sharing technology (i.e.KMS), however, past studies testing the significant relationship between various technologies and knowledge sharing showed that there is no significant relationship between the two variables. Hence, the current study is interested in examining the level of usage of online knowledge sharing technology for the purpose of knowledge sharing among academic staff. A questionnaire survey was utilized in this study and a descriptive analysis was done. Specifically, the academics showed a high usage of online knowledge sharing technology. Therefore, an increasing emphasis on knowledge creation and sharing and technology application leads to a continuous evaluation on the role of technology in HRD

Green Product Purchase intention in Malaysia

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to identify the key factors influencing green product’s purchase intentions of the population of Malaysia, specifically in the town of Petaling Jaya in the state of Selangor. It also aims to enhance the relationship between green product purchasing intention and its antecedents such as price, quality and advertisement. The research design chosen for this research is quantitative and data were collected from 150 respondents residing in same state through questionnaires survey. The statistical results showed that without existence of environment knowledge as moderator variable, there are no significant relationship between independent variables (perceived price, perceived quality and advertisement endorsement) and dependent variable (green products purchasing intention).  The research proved that environmental knowledge play a significant role in moderating the relation between price and purchase intention, quality and purchase intention and advertisement and purchase intention

Statistical Probability in the Social Sciences. An Analysis on Methodical-Constructive Basis

    Get PDF
The article analyzes the probability concept of the empirical social sciences. Basis of the study is the Methodical Constructivism. In particular the author asks whether the calculation of the statistical probability can be justified. The answer is: If references to the objects of science – colloquially "to reality" – are to be produced in the empirical social sciences, then it cannot be justified to calculate the statistical probability on the model of the natural sciences. According to the model, the use of the probability concept is based on mathematisation. “Mathematisation” means: The calculation of the statistical probability is favored at the expense of its empirical relevance. The article recommends investigating in the future what consequences it has when empirical educational research sets the course for individual CVs and social designs based on meaningless statements

A meshless method for reconstructing a source term in diffusion equation

    Get PDF
A meshless method based on the moving least squares approximation is applied to find the numerical solution of the inverse problem of diffusion equation. The problem is that reconstructing a source term using a solution specified at some internal points. Some numerical experiments are presented and discussed.
