The US Quantitative Easing and Indonesian Financial market. Does it matter?

    Get PDF
After financial crisis 2008, the central bank of the United States, known as Federal Reserve or the Fed, injected unprecedented amount of liquidity through large-scale asset purchases (LSAPs), which is also called as quantitative easing (QE). Lower long-term bond yields in the U.S. related to QE also made investors switched to other investment assets in the emerging market economies (EMEs) such as corporate bonds and privately issued securities. Indonesia, as one of the important EMEs in the world, also received higher capital inflows during the Fed’s QE period. Therefore, this study attempts to analyze the impact of the Fed’s quantitative easing policy towards volatility of financial sector in Indonesia by using Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model. Financial sector in this study focused on stock market, bond market and exchange rate market. The result shows that the Fed’s quantitative easing plays greater role in explaining Rupiah exchange rate, compared to Indonesia composite index and long-term bond yields. This study found negative and significant relationship between US money supply and exchange rate. It could relate to the increasing of Indonesia composite index so that demand for Rupiah exchange rate increased

Analysis of Treatment and Counseling in an HIV/AIDS Malaria Co infection Model using the Reproduction Number

    Get PDF
This study proposes a model that describes the dynamics of HIV/AIDS Co infection with Malaria using systems of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The basic reproduction number (R0) is the average number of secondary infections an infectious individual would cause during the infectious period in an entirely susceptible population. This study has shown that treatment (ARV) and counseling for HIV/AIDS infected individuals have insignificant effect on the spread of malaria, however HIV/AIDS counseling strategy is very effective in controlling the spread of malaria, HIV/AIDS and HIV/AIDS - Malaria co infections. The study further showed that the co infections of HIV/AIDS and malaria reduces the number of HIV/AIDS cases in the population but increases the malaria cases which could be due to the fact that malaria increases the rate of progression from HIV to AIDS leading to more HIV/AIDS deaths reducing the number of the HIV/AIDS cases while HIV/AIDS compromises the immune system thus the HIV/AIDS individuals become easily susceptible to malaria infection increasing the prevalence of malaria in the community

Empirical Research on Impact of Trade Liberalization on Wage Inequality in Indonesia

    Get PDF
Indonesia initiated the tariff liberalization since the late 80s up to the early 2000s. However, even though poverty within the country has been reduced, ever since the early 2000s, Indonesia experienced an increase in income inequality. In this paper, the effects of tariff reduction on wage inequality from 2003 to 2013 using bi-annual National Labor Survey data on individuals held by Indonesian Central Statistics Bureau that is representative on a province level is studied. Under the framework of Stolper-Samuelson theorem, considering labor market adjustment that take time as well another mechanism such as improvement in productivity by reduction in trade cost that is supported by importation, two mechanisms might appear: The effect of tariff imposition that leads unskilled labor to benefit in short and medium term as well as the productivity enhancing quality of lower input tariff that is supposed to increase wages among workers within these sectors. The effect of trade liberalization on wage inequality is examined and it is found that reduction in tariff has a significant impact that increase skill premium in the urban part and manufacturing-heavy regions of Indonesia. &nbsp

Effect of Logistic Information Integration Capability on Performance of Manufacturing Firms: The Moderating Role of Supply Chain Linkages

    Get PDF
Several studies content that firms may improve their performance by integrating their logistic capabilities. But such relationships may be affected by other externalities. Therefore, this study determined the role of supply chain linkages as a moderator on the relationship between logistic information integration capability and firm performance of manufacturing firms. The study adopted explanatory research design of cross-sectional nature. The target population comprised of 750 manufacturing firms registered under Kenya Association of Manufacturers. Sample size of 442 firms was selected using stratified and simple random sampling approaches. The findings of the study demonstrated that logistic information integration capability positively and significantly affects firm performance, subject to moderation effect of supply chain linkages. The implication of the study emphasizes the need for firm managers to understand and find ways to effectively manage the interactions between logistic information integration capability and supply chain linkages in order to improve performance and meet the customer requirements satisfactorily. Therefore, this study provides empirical evidence in manufacturing firms that supply chain moderates the relationship between logistic information integration capability and firm performance

Perceptions and Experiences of International Faculty Members in Saudi Arabia

    Get PDF
The current study has designed to examine the cultural adjustment experiences of international faculty members working in Saudi Arabia. Such insight is important because researchers have largely ignored Saudi Arabia when exploring cultural diversity in the modern workplace. The study examined the cross-cultural perceptions of international faculty members employed in King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The study also aimed to establish a relationship between selected demographic characteristics (gender, marital status, and country of origin) and successful cultural adjustment. The results of the studyshowed that international faculty members at King Abdulaziz University had a moderate level of job satisfaction, organizational commitment and cultural adjustment. In addition, participants had not experienced a high level of discrimination. The study also found that female participants had a higher level of cultural adjustment than male participants. In addition, there was no significant difference in international faculty members’ cultural adjustments based on their marital status and country of origin

The rapid acceleration of globalization across a multitude of spheres over the past 10 years has fueled increased interest in issues related to cultural diversity. Scholarly research has rarely focused on Saudi Arabia, however. This study has designed to examine the impact of cultural adjustment o tow work related attitudes (job satisfaction and organizational commitment). Data were collected from international faculty members at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia. The results showed that cultural adjustment can predict international faculty members’ organizational commitment and job satisfaction

The Contribution of Female Human Capital toward Economic Growth in Zimbabwe

    Get PDF
Most Societies want more investments in women education and health because of the greater social returns (external benefits) accruing from women’s human capital as compared to that of men. An Improvement in women’s health increases productivity by increasing life expectancy and reducing mortality. Female education equips girls at all education levels with skills to effectively compete in the labour market and contribute to their economies. Education also has some significant consequences for the composition and skills of the labour force the ultimate driver of economic growth. This research uses published statistics on growth domestic product, labour, capital, education enrolment at different levels and life expectancy to calculate the contribution of female human capital towards economic growth in Zimbabwe. The study further more introduced a Cobb Douglas Production function as the mathematical model that was suitable to study separate male and female human capital. Human Capital was taken as education enrolment at different levels and life expectancy as a proxy for health for the years 2000 to 2016. Alongside we made use of labour, capital and gross domestic product. The results indicated that female human capital is significant and therefore has a positive impact on economic growth.Further-morerecommendations have been given to the government, institutions as well as individuals on the steps to be taken towards a female empowered economy

From Vortex Mathematics to Smith Numbers: Demystifying Number Structures and Establishing Sieves Using Digital Root

    Get PDF
Proficiency in number structures depends on a continuous development and blending of intricate combinations of different types of numbers and its related characteristics. The purpose of this paper is to unpack the mechanisms and underlying notions that elucidate the potential process of number construction and its inherent structures. By employing the concept of digital root, we show how juxtaposed assumptions can play in delineating generalized models of number structures bridging the abstract, the numerical, and the physical worlds. While there are numerous proposed ways of constructing Smith numbers, developing a generalized algorithm could help provide a unified approach to generating number structures with inherent commonalities. In this paper, we devise a sieve for all Smith numbers as well as other related numbers. The sieve works on the principle of digital roots of both S (N), the sum of the digits of a number N and that of  S (N), the sum of the digits of the extended prime divisors of N. Starting with S (N) =  S (p.q.r…), where p, q, r,…, are the prime divisors whose product yields N and whose digital root (n) equals to that of S (N) thus S (N) = n + 9x; x є N. The sieve works on finding the proper value of x that renders a Smith number N. In addition to the sieve, new related numbers could emerge

    Bigraph in Graph Theory

    Get PDF
In this paper we study  bigraph in graph theory and discussed properties bigraph of some type graph, we study odd complete graph and even complete graph has bigraph such that when partition graph into two part  ,  , if even complete graph such  is odd complete graph after partition and  is not complete graph, either if odd complete graph such  is even complete graph after partition and  is not complete graph, we study regular graph for me bigraph too we get after partition  either odd  complete graph or even complete graph, will we discuss the status every  bigraph is disconnected graph, also are looking at rest graphics achieve their properties B- bigraph  for example we take Euler graph, square graph, Hamiltonian cycle graph , Hamiltonian path graph, This is the convention we use when trying to represent a bigroup by a graph. The vertices corresponds to the elements of the group, hence the order of the group  corresponds to the number of vertices in the graph
