Validating Numerical to Theoretical Solutions in a Reaction-Diffusion with Linear Cross-Diffusion Systems.

In this paper, we consider a reaction diffusion system with linear cross-diffusion. We carry out the analytical study in detail and find out that, when the diffusion coefficient is unity, Turing instability does not occur, but with the introduction of cross-diffusion, the system exhibit Turing instability. The numerical results reveal that, on increasing the value of gamma, there is an occurrence of spatial patterns which conforms with the theoretical results. The cross-diffusion coefficients really plays a vital role on the parameter spaces and spatial patterns of our system

Does prior experience really matter for disaster preparedness?

Climate change and transition toward urbanization had resulted in more frequent and severe disasters in the last decade. While urbanization is potential driver of change and economic growth, climate change had exacerbated resource scarcity and exposed local communities to greater and more frequent disasters. The local communities in Malaysia are of no exception. The most common types of disasters in Malaysia are landslide, flash flood and haze. This study explores the extent to which prior experience affects the level of preparedness among Malaysian communities before occurrence of natural disasters. Although previous studies have proven prior experience aided better handling of preparedness, yet some researchers have not found significant correlation between prior experience and preparedness. Having inconclusive results and with the rise of unexpected disaster events, has lead this present study to investigate the link in the Malaysian context. Questionnaire surveys were distributed to more than 1,000 respondents and face-to-face interviews were conducted with 12 local communities from Klang Valley, Malaysia. The results indicated that prior experience does contribute towards the level of disaster preparedness among the local communities in Malaysia. Hence, the findings of this present study may reduce the impact of disasters and thus could help local communities to effectively cope with the events of disasters

This study was undertaken purposefully to establish whether personal tax reliefs are attractive in Ghana in terms of its ability to  significantly reduce taxpayers’ income tax liabilities and also to identify challenges  associated with the administration of the tax reliefs in Ghana. The study adopted the descriptive quantitative  approach to research and employed questionnaires as the main data collection instrument. 132 questionnaires were administered online to employees of University of Cape Coast through their institutional email addresses. 119 responses were obtained representing 90.15% response rate. The study employed stratified sampling method followed by a simple random technique in selecting respondents into the various strata. The findings revealed that tax reliefs are not attractive; most taxpayers’ tax liabilities are reduced between 2 to 4% as a result of the reliefs. The study further showed that though there is high level of tax reliefs awareness among taxpayers, Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) did not contribute much to the awareness creation: employers did the magic. Delays in getting the reliefs approved and too much paper works were also established as the main challenges associated with tax reliefs administration. The study recommends GRA to ensure publicity on tax reliefs through provision of seminars and workshops to educate employees and employers concerning filing procedures, how to appropriately fill the relevant forms as well as appropriate documentations required to support tax reliefs applications. It is also recommended to GRA to consider online application system to ease the challenges associated with manual application. Lastly, the government is encouraged to increase the amounts associated with various tax reliefs in order to make them attractive for utilization

The Inspiration through World Skills Competition on Tourism & Hotel Management Curriculum Construction and Student Cultivating

In this paper, we emplys the real case and feelings of tourism and hotel management students to participate in the "World Competition", which reflects how the hotel industry has implemented the "banquet service standard", and also lays a solid foundation for future student’s learning and corporate practicing. With the continuous improvement of "Chinese Services" and the application of practical teaching, the training goals of tourism management personnel in vocational colleges have changed. The launch of the World Skills Competition fits this trend and promotes the reform and development of the hotel management talent training model.. The World Skills Competition is hailed as the "World Skills Olympics". China participated in this project for the first time in 2015 (43th), and won consecutive gold awards in 2017 (44th) and 2019 (45th). Awards and restaurant service excellence awards have achieved zero breakthroughs in medals. The four majors covering cooking, baking, restaurant service, and hospitality of the hotel management major are all competitions in the personal and social service areas of the World Skills Competition. From August 22-27, 2019, the 45th World Skills Competition was held in Kazan, Russia. The Chinese delegation won a total of 16 gold medals, 14 silver medals, 5 bronze medals and 17 winning prizes in this competition. The gold medal list, medal list, and group total score are the first. China will host the 46th Shanghai World Skills Competition in 2021. In the future, we should focus on increasing international cooperation with members of the World Skills Organization, and closely follow hotel professional skills projects. It is hoped that the World Skills Competition will become the vane of the hotel management professional training and the level of colleges and universities

Optimal managerial decision model in a closed-loop supply chain for a retailer to collect used products with different transfer policy

In recent years, the concerns of environmental and resource issues are growing. Due to a great deal of attention for closed-loop supply chains, collection behaviour of used products from public consumers becomes more and more important. This paper proposes an inventory model for retailer with new products and used products and the retailer is the decision maker who follows the rule of Economic Ordering Quantity (EOQ) model. We assumed that the retailer not only sells products but also collects those sold used products. The proposed problem faced by the retailer is formulated as a cost-minimization problem where the replenishment quantity of new products and the return rate of used products are the decision variables and an efficient iterative algorithm is provided to search for the solution. Furthermore, we extend our model to consider the "not lot for lot policy" inventory model for forward channel and reverse channel and determine the optimal management policy. Finally, we discuss the economical decision modelling for a retailer to analyse the willingness of collecting used products

The study assessed the generation of Internally Generated Fund( IGF) and its effects on financial performance of Universities, with evidence from Kumasi Technical University in Ghana. The objectives of the research work were to identify the sources of IGF; whether Kumasi Technical University has new strategies in the generation of IGF; and whether IGF of Kumasi Technical University was able to meet its expenditure.  The research design was descriptive. Sixty- three out of seventy questionnaires administered were retrieved. Secondary data were extracted from relevant reports/articles, journals, and other documents. Convenience and purposive sampling were used to select respondents. Findings were that the largest contributor to IGF was fees; and actual IGF fell short of actual expenditure. The conclusions were that fees were the major source of funds to Public Tertiary Institutions; Government support was mainly in the form of wages and salaries and capital projects through Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund); and wages and salaries were the highest expenditure though directly paid by government. Staff motivation, assigning competent staff to revenue avenues, seeking approval from the Minister of Finance to do investments were some recommendations made on IGF and its effects on financial performance. Others were that the Government of Ghana (GoG) should continue to pay wages and salaries; the Institution should adhere to the tenets of public procurement; sponsor staff locally; and these will help cut down waste and reduce costs. Which One of Should and Had Better: A Corpora-based Analysis

The ultimate goal of this paper is to provide a frequency analysis of should and had better within the Corpus of Contemporary American English, the British National Corpus, the Time Magazine Corpus, the Hansard Corpus, and the Corpus of Historical American English. The COCA clearly indicates that should may be the preferable type for Americans in eight genres, whereas had better may not. From the overall frequency of should and had better, it is clear that Americans tend to avoid had better since there is always a danger or problem if the hearer does not follow the advice. The BNC clearly shows that as in the case of the COCA, should is the preferable type for British people in seven genres. This may imply that the type should may be preferred over the type had better by British people. When it comes to the TMC, it is interesting to note that the type should was the preferable type for educated Americans. It is significant to note that the type should may have been the most preferred by educated Americans in the 2000s, but it may have been the most undesired type in the 1920s. With respect to the HC, it is worth noting that the type should was preferred by British politicians for 200 years from 1800 to 2000. From the overall frequency of should and had better in the HC, it is clear that the type should was preferred over the type had better by British politicians for 200 years. Finally, as for the COHA, it is noteworthy that the type should was preferred over the type had better by Americans from 1810 to 2000. The frequency of should reached a peak in 2000, but should had the lowest frequency in 1810. This in turn suggests that the type should was the most preferred by Americans in 2000, but it was the least preferred among Americans in 1810
