One my most rewarding experiences as a teacher in the British
and American Studies program at Chukyo was holding the an-
nual "Pop Culture Workshop." The conference started in 2004 as
a small presentation event involving third-year students. In the
following year, the event was called Popular Cross-Cultures with
the theme "Pop and Click: Culture and Technology in the
Classroom," and was a workshop for teachers. Iain Cook, a lec-
turer in the Department of Communication Studies at Concordia
University in Montreal, Canada, presented "TV or Not TV:
Personal Video Publishing on the Internet." In 2006, we ex-
panded the event, send-
ing out a bilingual call
for papers to all stu-
dents in the Depart-
ment of British and
American Studies. Pro-
fessor Armstrong and I
conceived the idea to
showcase the academic
research of our third-
year seminar students

Workshop, 2004-2022
The first Pop Culture event was
a workshop for teaching staff.
in Northern American history and culture, to give students the
experience of a real academic event and to build confidence, not
only in their English ability but also in their research and pres-
entation skills. We also saw it as a chance to expose students to
interesting work from academics in Japan and abroad.
Supported by funds from the English Society, the Pop Culture
Workshops featured a number of presentations by invited
guests, academics and creative people. At our first event in 2006,
Professor Noriko Onohara from the University of Hyogo pre-
sented "Japanese Fashion Today: Gothic and/or Lolita?"
In 2007, Brian Cullen of Nagoya Institute of Technology
talked about Irish music and performed some traditional songs.
Beverly Curran of Aichi Shukutoku University presented "Dry
Lips Move to Tokyo: Theatre Translation and Translation
Theatre in Contemporary Japan"
in 2008. In 2009, Naoko Yama-
guchi (Ochanomizu Women's
University) gave the lecture
"Thinking Popular Culture:
Critical Imagination." In 2015,
Prof. Junko Nishimura offered
"From Anne Green Gables to the
Story Girl: Looking into L.M.
Montgomery's Depiction of
Girls." In 2016, Professor Miki
Watanabe of Nagoya University
presented "Cherry Blossoms in

Tegu Kaze." In 2017, Professor Sumiko Shirai of Shirauri
University (Tokyo) gave a lecture on Canadian author Lucy
Maud Montgomery's Anne of Greene Gables. In 2018, Professor
Todayama of Hachinohe College of Technology presented "What
is this Thing Called Communication?"
The conference evolved through the eighteen years in which it
was held. We adhered to the format and style of a real academic
conference. Students were organized into themed panels, gave
15-20 minute presentations, and answered questions on their
work. The Society also provided the funds for the generous
amounts of snacks and drinks, pizza and pastries that were
available to students and guests between sessions. The event was
open to all third-year students in the BACS program, but
fourth-year students and graduate students from Chukyo and
from Nagoya University also made appearances at the event.
Over the years, a number of BACS professors were regular at-
tendees at the event,
which were usually
held on Saturdays, in-
cluding Alun Davies,
Scott Greene, John
Lenihan, Terry Wal-
choltz, Beverly La
Faye, and Professors
Mori and Iwata. In
2011, when Professor
Armstrong and I

were on sabbatical, Terry Walcholtz and Teobesta hosted Pop
Culture Workshop 8.
In the final few years of the event, students not only presented
their work, but also took the roles of host, chairs, and discuss-
ants. Students always found the event to be challenging, but
year after year, they spoke about how much they enjoyed it and
the sense of accomplishment it gave them. Despite the obvious
difficulties, we continued holding the Pop Culture Workshop
during the first two years of the COVID epidemic using zoom
with the final workshop held in
2022. I am very grateful for the
support of the Chukyo University
English Society during the 18
years that the Pop Culture
Conference was held. The society
enabled us to invite a number of
interesting guest speakers and
create a well organized event that
all could enjoy, but also, I believe,
enriched the lives of our students.

Investigation and Introduction The "Nagoya Toshogu Shrine Festival Scroll" held by Chukyo University

中京大学心理学研究科・心理学部紀要投稿要領
1．	投稿を希望する場合は，下記に定めるファイルを編集委員会に提出する。
　　⑴　心理学研究科・心理学部紀要投稿申込書
　　⑵　論文原稿（著者情報は論文原稿には含めないこと。マイクロソフト社 word で作成すること）
　　⑶　図表（マイクロソフト社 word もしくは excel で作成すること）
2．	投稿に際しては，各ファイルが上記のうちどれに当たるのかが明確に分かるようなファイル名を
つける。
3．	投稿は，電子メール（bulletin-psychology@ml.chukyo-u.ac.jp）に行う。
4．	論文の長さは，原則として本誌10ページ（14000字）以内とする。但し，編集委員会が認めたも
のについてはこの限りではない。
5．	投稿要領は，和文の場合には日本心理学会「執筆・投稿の手引き」，英文の場合には米国心理学
会「Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association」に準ずる。論文が投稿要
領と合致しない場合は，編集委員会が執筆者に期限付修正を求める。
6．	投稿にあたっては，日本語論文の場合は題目と抄録の英文，英語論文の場合は題目・抄録・本文
について，ネイティブスピーカーによる校閲を済ませておくことが望ましいが，編集委員会にそ
の作業を委託することも出来る。
7．	校正は執筆者の責任において行うが，印刷の体裁は，編集委員会に一任する。
中京大学心理学研究科・心理学部紀要編集規程
1．	本誌は，中京大学大学院心理学研究科及び心理学部が刊行する機関誌であって，心理学に関連す
る未公刊論文（和文または英文），その他編集委員会が適当と認めたものを掲載する。
2．	本誌に掲載される原稿の種類は次の通りとする。
　　⑴　 原著論文：実験・調査・事例などに基づく研究，実践的研究，理論的研究であり，既存研究
に対する問題提起を行い，新たな枠組み・視点を提示するもの（査読有）。
　　⑵　その他
　　　①　 研究ノート：原著論文とは質的に異なるが，研究の遂行に有用な方法，技術及びデータに
関する報告で公表に値するもの（査読無）。
　　　②　その他編集員会が必要と認めた記事（査読無）。
3．	投稿資格は下記の者が有する。
　　⑴　 心理学研究科（以下，文学研究科心理学専攻を含む）及び心理学部教員（非常勤講師を含
む）及び元専任教員
　　⑵　心理学研究科在学生，または修了・中退者
　　⑶　心理学研究科・心理学部研究生
　　⑷　編集委員会が特に認めた者
4．	学外者の共著者については，その資格は問わない。
5．	発行は年２号とし，１号については10月刊行とし，２号については３月刊行を原則とする。
6．	本誌に掲載された論文を無断で複製，あるいは転載することはできない。
7．	別刷部数は原稿一編について30部とし，それを越える部数，あるいは，論文中に特殊印刷を必
要とする場合は，執筆者の負担とする。
8．	掲載された原稿は，原則として大学機関リポジトリで公開する。
9．	投稿論文のうち原著論文は，心理学部及び心理学研究科専任教員のうち２名の査読を得て掲載が
可能となる。ただし，論文の専門性によっては外部の専門家に査読を依頼することがある。研究
ノート及び記事は編集委員が原稿を確認し，掲載の可否を判断する。原著論文とは異なり査読は
行わないが，内容や表現等の修正を投稿者に求めることはある。
中京大学心理学研究科・心理学部紀要編集委員会規程
1．	心理学研究科・心理学部紀要の刊行を進めるために編集委員会（以下，委員会）を設ける。
2．	委員会は，⑴ 各年度の「紀要」刊行計画の立案，⑵ 紀要掲載論文の決定，⑶ 投稿論文の受理，
⑷ 刊行のための諸手続き，⑸ 紀要編集規程・紀要投稿要領・紀要編集委員会規程の改訂を行う。
3．	委員会は，教授会が選出した委員４名より構成する。各委員の任期は２年とするが，再任を妨げ
ない。
4．	委員会は，互選により編集委員長を定める。
5．	委員長は，教授会に委員会が判断したことを適時報告するとともに，必要な場合は審議を求める。
