Adaptability Approaches in Digital Libraries
This paper examines some approaches for endowing digital libraries with adaptability capabilities in order to scaffold and enhance end user experience. The paper provides a general overview of techniques and methods commonly adopted for achieving adaptability. It also discusses how these can be implemented, and to this end illustrates specific examples and guidelines drawn from the practical experience that the authors are currently gaining in the Share.TEC European project, a context in which adaptability is key to managing and responding to considerable diversity in user requirements
From Topics to Narrative Documents: Management and Personalization of Topic Collections
The paper proposes a document planning approach that structures topic-oriented materials into user-specific, narrative documents. This is achieved by introducing narrative flows into topic collections and by identifying variant relations between topics. Technically, topic collections are modeled as graphs, where nodes correspond to topics and edges denote semantic dependencies, narrative flows, and variant relations between the topics. These graphs are traversed to produce narrative documents. To personalise the traversal, user contexts are considered and define the users’ structure and content preferences. For illustration purposes the approach has been applied to a collection of learning resources

Ontology-based Recommendation System for Personalized Education of Dyslexics to Read
Dyslexic pupils have learning difficulties in reading, writing, maths. They require individualised education. The paper presents an approach to achievement of personalised teaching the basics of reading that applies dyslexic learner’ profile ontology and learning goals ontology. A general model of reading that is rationale for determination of the latter is proposed. Ontology of dyslexia disabilities is suggested for manual annotation of learning resources

Serious Games and Virtual Worlds for High-level Learning Experiences
The present research aims to discuss the role of serious games and virtual worlds as emerging technologies leading to high-level learning experiences. A review of theoretical concepts for knowledge acquisition and learning is provided, focusing on the role of personal experiences and trial-anderror methods. Some of the basic characteristic of serious games and virtual worlds have been reviewed and their main advantages and limitations for elearning are discussed. Thus a model for interactive virtual environment, integrating SG&VW and e-Learning is proposed, aiming to deliver high-order learning experiences. Finally the paper discovers some of the main limitations of SG and VW in practice and provide a number of considerations for their wider integration in the learning process
Intelligent Search in eBook Repository
Nowadays a lot of systems are available for searching e-books, but the ways to retrieve relevant and meaningful information are difficult. To cope with this problem of retrieving relevant information efficiently we proposed a system, which allows user to search e-books using semantically enriched queries. Our approach not only facilitates users for intelligent e-book search but it also facilitates user in locating their desired information inside the e-book
How to Extend the ICT Used at Companies for Transferring and Sharing Knowledge
Knowledge sharing (KS) is recognized today as an increasingly important management problem because it reflects the capacity of organizations to absorb and profit from individual knowledge and to transform it to company market value proposition. Knowledge transfer (KT) is defined as the process of more general and abstract knowledge exchange via ICT. ICT plays an important role for KT, but in practice they are moderately used within the organization. The present paper aims to overview the concepts of KS and KT. As a result it will propose a model for KS ́s impact on KT. After this an empirical research conducted among 200 HU and 157 BG managers will present how these managers rank competences, motivation practices and techniques for KS and how it influences KT and thus reflect on the use of ICT
SesameTM: Building Topic Maps on RDF
Over the past decade RDF has developed to become the dominant standard for representation and interchange of structured data on the web. In portal development, widely unrecognized by Semantic Web research, subject-centric topic maps are actively used and have evolved from an ancient SGML and intermittent XML-based standard to a pure data model. This data model can be represented as a graph and served various integration strategies, put forward over the past years, as a starting point. However, none of these strategies really appreciates the way in which the technologies are used resulting in a poor tool interoperability. To overcome this state we propose a Topic Maps engine acting as congurable wrapper for Sesame. The software library we develop and describe in this paper implements the Topic Maps Application Programming Interface (TMAPI) enabling the usage of Topic Maps infrastructure instead of working at the level of RDF triples
