Developing Expert System for Managing Maintenance Projects

    No full text
Handling specialities of maintenance projects is a highly challenging task. On the one hand the operations of the maintenance task are fixed, and can be described with a network or process planning methods. On the other hand the sequence of realizing maintenance tasks depend on the risks and reliabilities. Therefore, traditional project and process planning methods are not the most appropriate ones at managing the sequence of maintenance tasks. In this paper a new planning method is introduced, where project constraints can be considered in determining the optimal maintenance project. Tasks which have to be realized can be ranked with our method based on their reliabilities or risks. Estimating reliabilities, theory of stochastic process and expressing of measurement uncertainty are also applied and improved in order to handle decision errors and their consequences. To determine feasible maintenance projects an expert system has been developed to determine which application can be used for diagnostic processes and forecasting the failures

An Interface for Ontology Based Platform - the Evolution of the Ideas

    No full text
The article presents main stages in the process of the development the user interface of the Share.TEC ontology based portal for teacher educators. The paper discusses how the various ideas were born, what types of challenges they provoke and different approaches to solve problems. The whole process of the dynamic progress and evolution of the first imaginations to its final version implemented in the prototype is described

A Multi-perspective Termino-ontological Resource for Information Immersion System Design

    No full text
More and more structures have to deal with huge amounts of data, and it may be difficult to find the relevant information. To address this issue, documents must be indexed efficiently. Resources such as termino-ontological resources can be used, since they can provide a model of these documents, and index them by means of this model. We present a model and a building method for a multi-perspective termino-ontological resource that provides a structure to be used in an information immersion system. This system will allow to access a set of documents by different entry points according to users’ needs

An Ontological Approach for Multicultural Digital Repositories

    No full text
The EC funded Share.TEC project aims to provide culturally aware access to resources across Europe related to Teacher Education. The semantic core of the system is the Teacher Education Ontology (TEO), which not only supports the multilingual interface but also underpins fundamental functionalities like searching and browsing. This paper describes an approach that systematically reorganizes the structure of TEO to leverage the existing multicultural dimension. Special attention is focused on representing situations where the semantics of concepts do not map completely across cultures

    Share.TEC Repository System Interface

    No full text
The focus of this paper will be the user interface of the Share.TEC repository system for Teacher Education. The interface has been carefully examined by the author of this paper during the numerous testing iterations and it will be presented in this paper with a number of useful recommendations and suggestions which were reported during the evaluation of the system. Emphasis was put on the interaction with the user and his or her expectations. The analysis and examples in this paper might be very useful for the developers of the future releases of the Share.TEC repository system as well as for those who intend to develop similar systems

Effect of Technology Professional Development on Students’ e-Skills and Motivation

    No full text
Empirically-based and theoretical approaches to the question how to prepare young people to succeed in the conditions of global knowledge economy argue for a more pronounced role of formal education in developing students’ e-skills. Programs for developing teachers’ competencies to integrate digital media in their subject teaching can be seen as a key measure toward developing students’ e-skills through formal education. Findings from the evaluation of a large-scale program for professional development in Germany - Intel ® Teach - Advanced Online reveal that using technology in class in learner-centered contexts by teachers had a positive effect on students’ motivation and skills for using digital media and collaboration. Teachers reported less effect on students’ active participation in class

Acquiring Implicit Knowledge by Cognitive Semantics Mapping

    No full text
This paper describes one way of representation of expert’s knowledge aimed at revealing implicit semantics associated with the chosen domain. For this, two important techniques are combined. First, a space of metaphors is selected to complement a given set of the domain stimuli. An expert then performs a subjective scaling quiz on both domain stimuli and metaphors. Second, a geometrical representation of expert’s answers is built and analyzed. The result is interpreted in terms of theories of psychological meaning. The paper discusses the approach and proposes a template for arbitrary experiments of such ways of knowledge elicitation

Re-experiencing Engineering Inventions within a Modern Virtual Environmen

    No full text
This paper describes a personal journey in the world of Mathematics and Mechanics and the actual process of reinventing devices with focus on their mathematical and mechanical properties. A set of important accompanying skills have been identified along the path of constructing these devices

E-competencies of the Tutor in E-learning - A Comparative Study

    No full text
The E-learning system requires more competencies then the ones from traditional education. In Romania this E-learning system is just born and the status of the tutor is unclear. The tutor does not have a clear psycho-pedagogical profile. In this paper we present a quantitative and qualitative comparative research between Romania, Western-Europe and America with the emphasis on the competencies needed for a tutor in the E-learning context of Romania

Implementation of Advanced Technologies in Ontology-based E-learning Model

    No full text
Paper discusses how advanced technologies like educational software and Web 2.0 tools could be successfully integrated in e-learning in order to create and deliver high quality e-learning content using ontology-based model. We propose here a possible solution for implementation of advanced technologies in this model and how different social tools and educational software could be used in ontology as RLOs. We describe advantages of the solution and how set requirements for effective e-learning are satisfied by the suggested model for integration of new technologies
