On 24 February 2022, Russia launched a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine. The beginning of this war marked a significant turning point with far-reaching consequences for the countries involved. Russian political discourse has responded swiftly to the conflict with a marked increase in nationalist rhetoric. This surge underscores a renewed emphasis on national unity and a collective sense of purpose, alongside a growing imperative to safeguard Russian integrity and sovereignty. The discourse has increasingly framed the war as a battle against external threats, positioning Russia as a defender of traditional values and a bulwark against perceived Western encroachments. This nationalist narrative, actively promoted by the government, serves to mobilise public support for its policies. Official speeches by the head of state play a central role in disseminating this ideology. Accordingly, this paper sets out to analyse selected addresses by the Russian President delivered during the conflict’s initial year to uncover the discursive mechanisms shaping Russian national identity. It relies on a discourse-historical approach, which provides effective tools for advancing this endeavour

Outlining Theoretical Underpinnings of Game Transfer Phenomena

Research has investigated the impact of video game play on cognitive processes and perceptions during and after gaming. These studies have primarily focused on cognitive functions such as perception, attention, working memory, and skill transfer. However, little attention has been paid to the short-term effects of gaming. Research on Game Transfer Phenomena (GTP) has emerged as a comprehensive, multi-modal approach to examining the temporary changes in sensory perception, cognition, and self-agency directly linked to video game experiences. GTP manifestations involve suddenly re-experiencing images, sounds, haptics, and perceptual distortions of surroundings, objects, and the body perception after gaming. These experiences typically happen while being awake and are triggered by internal (thoughts) or external stimuli associated with the game. The prevalence of GTP ranges from 74.8% to 96% (in a 12-month period). However, GTP occurrences are mostly infrequent. Most GTP cases are reported by gamers without a history of substance use or mental disorders. After reviewing the literature on GTP (32 studies, N>8,000) and related phenomena, seven theories were formulated, partially supported by the current knowledge about GTP. The postulated theories were categorized into three groups: 1) Vulnerability factors include susceptibility to cognitive and sensory phenomena, hypersensitivity, low working memory capacity, and tendency to experience mind-wandering. 2) Mechanisms underlying GTP involving priming mechanisms, associative learning, selective attention to game-related cues, predicting errors, disinhibition of visual processors, neurotransmission dysregulations, sensory sensitivity, and neural adaptations. 3) Risk involving GTP due to their potential disruptive nature and its contribution to the symptomatology of gaming disorder

The Theological-Spiritual Sense of the Principle and Foundation at the Different Stages of the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola

The Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola have been famous in the Church for almost five centuries for their extraordinary effectiveness in building and deepening one’s relationship with God. This effectiveness is attributable not so much to their content, which is related to the fundamental truths of the faith of the Catholic Church and to the contemplation of the mysteries of the life of Jesus Christ, as to their precise method. The author of the Spiritual Exercises, by adapting their content to the exercitant, helps them to open themselves more and more to the action of the Lord God and to cooperate with him, so that he may ultimately love him in everything and serve his Divine Majesty. This final chord of man’s spiritual union with God is already present, as it were, in embryo in the first exercise of the Ignatian retreat, in the so-called Principle and Foundation (Principio y Fundamento). This exercise, commonly known as the Foundation, is, as it were, the root of the whole tree of spiritual development contained in the Spiritual Exercises. This is because the content of the Principle and Foundation develops and deepens more and more during the different stages of the Spiritual Exercises. The purpose of this article is to analyze scientifically the content of the Principle and Foundation and to show the theological-spiritual sense of the Principle and Foundation in the different stages of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. The text uses the method of analysis of the source texts and the literature on the subject, as well as the hermeneutical method, and shows that the synthesis of the spiritual life contained in the Ignatian Principle and Foundation continually develops and reaches its culmination in the last spiritual exercise of the Ignatian retreat – in the so-called “Contemplation to attain the love of God” (Ad amorem). In conclusion, it is shown that the content of the Principle and Foundation constitutes the foundations of the spiritual life, which, on the path of development, leads the exercitant to be able to “in all things love and serve the Divine Majesty.” (SE 233

Wydział Teologii, Instytut Nauk Teologicznych; promotor: ks. dr hab. Brak nadziei prowadzi natomiast do rozpaczy i utraty sensu życia. An essential characteristic of humanity is to have hope. Human life, although it takes place in the present, it is also oriented toward the future. Everyone expects something from the future, hopes for something, and trusts that his or her plans will come true. Hope enables us to look to the future without fear and gives us the strength to act and take responsibility for our lives. A lack of dearth of hope, on the other hand, leads to despair and a loss of meaning in life. The Christian hope guides man toward God, from whom he expects the good that is eternal life, and reveals to him how to properly live his life on earth. A Polish theologian who devoted a significant part of his life to studying the question of Christian hope was Fr Wacław Hryniewicz. His scholarly output represents a large and valuable contribution to the development of and interest in, the livable topic of the Christian hope. Accordingly, the main research question was formulated: Q: what is the credibility of the Christian hope in the opinion of Fr Hryniewicz? The answer to the question is to be found in the four chapters o f the dissertation. The first chapter presents that hope is a fundamental reality of human life. According to Fr Hryniewicz, the hope of reality is an essential component of every men’s life. Not only does it have a certain driving force in human life, but it also helps one to pass through difficult moments in life. It is shown that hope is also transcendent in nature. In the chapter, it is also pointed out that it is possible to adopt the very opposite attitude towards life, that is, the attitude of despair. Hopelessness is the opposite of hope, and an attitude that leads to a sense of meaninglessness and denial of the gift of life. To show the credibility of Christian hope, based on the scholarly work o f the Lublin theologian, it was also shown that it does not separate man from temporal life. The second chapter o f the study presents how the Lublin professor interprets the biblical sources of Christian hope. First, reference was made to texts from the Old Testament. It was shown that through the history o f Israel, the teaching of the prophets, and the vision of the promised Messiah, an image of lasting and unshakable hope, whose architect is God himself, becomes visible on the pages of the Old Testament. Central to the Good News proclaimed by Jesus Christ, was the idea of the Kingdom of God. Analyzing the parables o f Jesus as interpreted by Hryniewicz, it was shown that the preaching of the Master of Nazareth is a proclamation of hope, the prospect of eternal happiness in the Father's kingdom. The chapter also shows that the foundation of Christian hope is the truth that the mystery of Christ's Passover embraces all people. The third chapter discusses the problem of hope and its credibility in the face of major challenges present in human life. Drawing on Prof. Hryniewicz's theological thought, issues concerning human existence such as free will, the problem of evil and suffering, the experience of death, and the correlation between man and the material world are addressed. The fourth chapter presents, in the context of hope, the eschatological views of the Lublin theologian. A discussion of such issues as the resurrection and eternal life, the Parousia and God's judgment, the problem of hell, and the hypothesis of the hope of salvation for all are undertaken. In its essence, the Christian hope is eschatological in character, and it is oriented towards God's promised eternal life in His kingdom. This part of the work shows that Professor Hryniewicz's views critically evaluate the eschatology present in the history of theology and characterized by fear and anxiety of punishment and condemnation. According to the author, Christ in his preaching did not focus primarily on the fearful doctrine of damnation, but on the good news of salvation. The Saviour did not frighten people with hell but brought the hope of eternal life. Eschatology as seen by Hryniewicz is thus an eschatology of hope

The article is devoted to the problem of the child in the apophthegmata of Anastasius of Sinai. They present a wide panorama of life and behavior of children and youth in the context of a specific era and place. The structure of the article is determined by five contexts in which the subjective role of the child is shown as a victim, debtor, dissenter, experiencing spiritual revelations and experiencing possession and healing. The analyses made it possible to formulate specific conclusions, the most significant of which concern Anastasius’ belief that faith is such a great value that it justifies depriving even one’s children of their lives in order to protect them from apostasy, and that the teenager is capable of an independent act of faith for which he is willing to suffer martyrdom. Moreover, in the mind of the monk from Sinai, childhood is a period when one can experience extraordinary religious experiences. This applies to both "private revelations" and healings. This article also poses an important question that can be an inspiration for further research, namely what happened in the Church that in the era of the desert fathers and the strong development of monastic life in which references to the Old Testament practices - the sacrifices of Abraham and Jephthah - were so strongly voiced, and there was no reference to Jesus and his relationship with children? This sets a completely new horizon in their treatment
