The Acts of the Apostles as a Portrayal of the Synodal Church?
This article explores the concept of synodality in the Acts of the Apostles. Although the term σύνοδος is absent from the New Testament, potentially leading to premature negative assumptions, an etymological analysis of its components (the preposition σύν and the noun ἡ ὁδός) yields more positive insights. Drawing on synodal documents and selected passages from Luke’s second volume, the study establishes certain connections between the modern notion of synodality and the practices of the early Church, delineating essential criteria for the attitudes of members within today’s synodal Church

An ERP investigation of the effect of facial adaptation and facial attractiveness on the neuronal correlates of empathy for pain
Data come from a sample of 30 young Polish adults (15 women), obtained during a laboratory study.
Experimental procedures were conducted in the pain empathy and facial adaptation paradigm. The data include the N2 and P3 ERP components, as well as behavioural assessments of the photographs observed by the participants.
Additionally, the data regarding the attractiveness ratings of individual models in the photographs was included. The assessments were performed by 50 people (30 women), all Polish, during the laboratory procedure.
The research was conducted in 2023 as part of the research project "Adaptation and Priming as Tools for Modifying the Neural Correlates of Pain Empathy for Attractive Faces. An EEG Study," funded by the National Science Center (No. 2021/41/N/HS6/01044).

Angels in the Theoretical Interpretation and Practical References of St. Jerome in the Light of his "Homilies on the Psalms"
The author of the article analyses selected fragments from the Homilies on the Psalms of St. Jerome, in which the great exegete takes up, based on the relevant biblical texts, the topic of angels and their attitudes. St. Jerome presents us, on the one hand, the activity of angels serving God and placed on an equal footing with martyrs and monks, and on the other hand he describes the fallen angels who distanced themselves from God through their sin of pride, wanting to be equal to God himself. The article shows in a very concrete way how St. Jerome moves from theoretical exegetical explanations to practical ascetic references. The attitude of angels, servants of God, can be an example for monks and all Christians, while the fall of angels who distanced themselves from God is a warning to all believers in Christ
On the Direction of Critical Policy
Racjonalność i moralność stanowią zakorzenioną w społeczeństwie całość. Drogę do pogodzenia obu celów ukazuje personalizm systemowy. Modny relatywizm i postępująca fragmentaryzacja politologii uniemożliwiają poznanie coraz bardziej dynamicznego i rozległego pola polityki.
Politics needs not only internal rationality and orderliness of law, which should be characterised by coherence of argumentation, but also – as urgently as ever – ethos, this carrier of values that bring order to human communication, so much underestimated today, yet influencing political phenomena and processes, objective theory. Rationality and morality are rooted in society as a whole. The pursuit of full political power, its maximization by the winning parties, cannot be the main goal. Politicians should also take into account the dignity of human beings and society. The way to reconcile the two goals is shown by systemic personalism. This is a different approach in the understanding of politics and the science of politics as acting in the interests of a common society. Nowadays, there is no agreement on the essence of politics, there is no recognition of its ethical dimension. Fashionable relativism and the increasing fragmentation of political science make it impossible to understand the increasingly dynamic and vast field of politics
William of Ware’s Arguments in Defense of Mary’s Immaculate Conception
The current article aims to shed light on the reasoning used by the 13th century English Franciscan master William of Ware to defend the belief in the immaculate conception of the Virgin Mary. To do so, this English theologian begins by dismantling the alleged reasons of those who opposed such belief. He then examines the numerous proofs that, in his opinion, confirm the truth of the thesis under study. As a methodological strategy, the author of this article sets out step by step and in detail the interrelated arguments of William of Ware to rationally support his defense of the immaculate conception thesis. The results of this research highlight the courageous and innovative pro-immaculate stance of William of Ware in the face of the then dominant current of deniers of the belief in the immaculate conception of Mary
Worship of the Icon in Nowy Świerżeń in the 17th and 18th Centuries – Between Pragmatism and the Patronage of the Radziwiłł Family
W celu animacji kultu i zapewnienia opieki duszpasterskiej przybywającym pielgrzymom, podobnie jak w miejscu kultu maryjnego w Żyrowicach, książę Aleksander Ludwik Radziwiłł w 1652 roku planował sprowadzanie do miejscowości zakonu bazylianów. Fundacja została zrealizowana dopiero w 1740 roku. Do Świerżenia przybywało wielu pątników doświadczających tu uzdrowień. Jako dowód wdzięczności umieszczali przy ikonie wota. Relacje o cudach były rejestrowane w Księdze cudów, której pierwsze wydanie zostało opublikowane w 1650 roku, a drugie, uzupełnione o informacje o kolejnych cudach, w 1750 roku. Ośrodek kultu maryjnego w Nowym Świerżeniu w epoce nowożytnej pozostał ważnym miejscem kultu dla społeczności lokalnej. Nie uzyskał rozgłosu ponadlokalnego. Przyczyny tego stanu były złożone. Kult ikony Matki Bożej w cerkwi świerżeńskiej został zapoczątkowany w czasie, kiedy wiele innych miejsc kultu maryjnego posiadało długą tradycję, a inne zyskały już rozgłos.
The article presents the history of icon worship in the Unitarian Orthodox church in the Radziwiłł-owned village of Nowy Świerżeń (present-day Novy Sverzhen) in the 17th–18th centuries. The history of the worship is analysed in the context of the influence on its development of the representatives of the Radziwiłł family. In order to animate the cult and provide pastoral care to arriving pilgrims, like at the Marian worship site in Żyrowice, Prince Aleksander Ludwik Radziwiłł planned to bring the Basilian Order to the village in 1652. The foundation was finalised as late as 1740. Many pilgrims came to Świerżeń to experience miraculous healings. As a token of gratitude, they placed votive offerings next to the icon. Reports of miracles were recorded in Księga Cudów (The Book of Miracles), the first edition of which was published in 1650, and a second edition, supplemented with information on more miracles, in 1750. The Marian devotion centre in Nowy Świerżeń remained an important place of worship for the local community in the modern era. It has not received more than local publicity, the reasons for which were complex. The worship of the icon of the Mother of God in the Świerżeń Orthodox Church was initiated at a time when many other places of Marian devotion had a long tradition, and others had already gained fame. This condition was also influenced by the Radziwiłłs’ insufficient support for the promotion of the cult of the Virgin Mary in the image in Nowy Świerżeń.

The Revival of St Menas Veneration in the Twentieth-Century Egypt
In antiquity, St Menas was highly revered throughout the Christian world and attracted large numbers of pilgrims to the pilgrimage centre of Abū Mīnā. In twentieth-century Egypt, however, this saint became a figure of limited recognition in the Coptic Orthodox community. The revival of St Menas’s veneration, promoted by the Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church, Cyril VI, made the saint very popular in contemporary Coptic society. In this article, I argue that the resurgence of St Menas’s veneration stemmed not only from Cyril VI’s dissemination efforts rased on religious motivations, but also from Coptic cultural nationalist motivations, led by the Coptic laity. The miraculous story that emerged during the Second World War among the Greek soldiers, and the nationalist response of a dozen Coptic lay youth in Alexandria, played an important role in the campaign to reevaluate the Coptic past symbolised by St Menas and his pilgrim centre of Abū Mīnā
