Get PDFThis paper presents some considerations about the pre-Socratic philosopher Empedocles and his links with the Orphic-Pythagorean mystical doctrines, and, more specifically, his affiliation with the Pythagorean order. The initiated in the mysteries of that order has the command of his prapídes and is a theiós anér. This sacred man can reach the divine sophia by contemplation of the truth, becoming a philosophós. We aim to demonstrate that Empedocles was one of those men.O texto apresenta algumas considerações sobre as conhecidas notícias da vinculação do filósofo pré-socrático Empédocles com as doutrinas místicas abarcadas sob o rótulo de órfico-pitagorismo e, mais especificamente, sua filiação à ordem pitagórica. O iniciado nos mistérios dessa ordem tem o domínio de seu prapídes e é um theiós anér. Para esse “homem sagrado”, é possível alcançar a sophia divina, através da contemplação da verdade, e tornar-se um philosophós. O texto pretende mostrar que Empédocles foi um desses homens

La dialectica del bien y mal en República y Parménides
Get PDFContrary to certain interpretations (M. L. Gill) that see in the dialectical practices of Parmenides a “change of policy” in the dialectical method, this paper starts from the idea that the dialectic of opposites is a constant in the works of Plato, since his earliest dialogues. In this sense, this paper seriously consider Adimanto’s statement, in the Republic (362 e2), that it is necessary to examine the opposite lógoi and aims to demonstrate that the dialectic determines the very structure of that dialogue, as well as that of the dialectical practices of Parmenides. This position leads the author to choose the relationship between good and evil as an example of the dialectic of opposites, and to demonstrate in which way the aforementioned dialogues shed light on the question from different viewpoints.En contra de ciertas interpretaciones (M. L. Gill) que ven en el ejercicio dialéctico del Parménides un “change of policy” en el método dialéctico, el presente trabajo parte de la idea de que la dialéctica de los contrarios constituye una constante en la obra de Platón desde los diálogos más tempranos. En ese sentido toma en serio la afirmación de Adimanto en la República (362 e2) de que hay que examinar los lógoi contrarios y pretende mostrar que esa dialéctica determina la estructura misma de este diálogo, tal como la del ejercicio dialéctico del Parménides. Esa posición lleva al autor a tomar como ejemplo de esa dialéctica la relación entre el bien y el mal y mostrar de que manera los diálogos mencionados echan luces sobre esta cuestión desde diversas perspectivas

The pitagoric origins of the philosophical method: the use of archaí as methodological principles in Philolaus
Get PDFA história do termo arché parece apontar para uma redefinição platônico-aristotélica de um conceito arcaico, ligado inicialmente ao uso jônico do termo para expressar um ponto-de-partida cronológico. Aristóteles, em Metafísica A, transforma o significado das archaí que a passam a significar princípios explicativos do real, e neste sentido, equivalentes ao termo aitíai (causas). Apesar da maioria dos estudiosos atribuir a Aristóteles a descoberta desse uso, um estudo comparativo do termo no Corpus Hipocraticus, nos fragmentos originários do pitagórico Filolau, datados na segunda metade do V século, revela-se que esta literatura antecipa o uso da arché no sentido de princípios metodológicos para a pesquisa filosófica.The history of the term arché, seems to point to a Platonic-Aristotelian redefinition of an archaic concept, initially related to the Ionic use of the term to express a chronological starting point. Aristotle gives a new sense to archaí, which receive the meaning of principles to explain the real, and, in this sense, are equivalent to the term aitiai. This paper intends to demonstrate that, before Aristotle, this aspect can already be observed in the Hippocratic Corpus and the fragments of Philolaus
