EFL Students’ Perceptions on Duolingo: How AI can Eliminate Socioeconomic Discrepancies
Different educational achievements between students from high socioeconomic status and those from lower socioeconomic status in universities are said to be caused by unequal access to learning resources. This research aimed at investigating students’ perspectives on the use of Duolingo in EFL learning to eliminate socioeconomic discrepancies in the university. This research used a descriptive qualitative design. Interviews were used to gather data from one male and two female higher education students majoring in the English Language Education program. This research shows two main findings. First, students have positive attitudes and enjoyable experiences in using Duolingo contributed by its fun, easy, accessible, and fun nature. Second, Duolingo, offering free charge for all users, can eliminate socioeconomic discrepancies among students in the university because it can be accessed by students from any socioeconomic condition. It implies that Duolingo as an AI tool can be used by both educators and students around the world as an accessible language teaching and learning resource. Therefore, there is a need to develop students’, educators’, and parents’ awareness of the utilization of Duolingo as a solution for the limited access to learning resources due to socioeconomic barriers

Despite its prominence, research on asynchronous learning addressing students\u27 issues and coping strategies, particularly in Indonesian EFL context remains sparse. This study aimed to address the research gap and uncover the students\u27 issues in an asynchronous English class and how they cope with these challenges. The data were collected through questionnaire distributed to 67 students at an Indonesian university. The findings indicated certain issues that arise during asynchronous English lesson. The students found that a poor internet connection, social media distraction, a lack of interaction between students and the teacher as well as among students, and a lack of opportunities to practice English as their primary learning barriers. The findings also revealed that the activities that students took to deal with these problems, making a smart move in asynchronous English class, was effective. Despite the numerous distractions, the students strove to maintain their focus on the materials. However, as their strategies in asynchronous English class, students did not attempt to contact their teacher to inquire about the materials, and they did not establish a timeframe and learning objective. Limitations and recommendation for future research are discussed
NUMERACY LITERACY IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MATHEMATICS LEARNING
The purpose of this research is to describe numeracy literacy in elementary school mathematics learning. The approach used is qualitative with a case study in several elementary schools. Data collection in this research involves searching for journals available in various electronic media such as digital libraries, the internet, through Google Scholar. The results of the numeracy literacy analysis indicate that students\u27 numeracy literacy skills involve three main components. Firstly, students need to have skills in understanding and using mathematical symbols and numbers in various contexts. Secondly, students should be able to analyze information presented in various visual forms, such as graphs and tables. Thirdly, students also need to have the ability to solve mathematical problems that involve the use of numbers and symbols. The implications of this research can be used as a foundation for the development of a more inclusive and contextual mathematics curriculum, as well as to assist teachers in designing effective learning strategies to enhance students\u27 numeracy literacy
