Interconnected economies: Assessing the impact of major global stock exchanges and macroeconomic factors on the Indonesian stock market
Purpose — The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of global stock exchanges indices—the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) index, the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) index, and the Nikkei 225 (N225) index—and macroeconomic variables (exchange rate and inflation) on the movement of the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI).Method — The data analysis method used in this study is quantitative causality with the GARCH model technique. The samples include the JCI, global stock exchanges (DJIA, SSE, N225) indices, and macroeconomic variables (exchange rate, inflation) based on monthly secondary data from 2017 to 2022, encompassing 72 months of observation.Result — The results showed that the global stock market variables of the DJIA and the SSE indices had a significant positive effect, while the N225 index had a significant effect on the JCI. Regarding macroeconomic variables, the exchange rate had a significant negative effect, whereas inflation did not affect the JCI.Novelty — The novelty of this research, compared to previous studies, lies in the more recent research period, which spans from 2017 to 2022, and the inclusion of inflation variables, which have not been explored in prior studies
Examining determinants of women’s labor participation rate in developing Asian countries
Purpose — The study aims to analyze the impact of women\u27s involvement in parliament, women\u27s education, fertility rates, female unemployment, and female entrepreneurship on the female labor participation rate in developing countries in Asia.Method — This research is quantitative study utilizing secondary data obtained from the World Bank Indicators. The data collection involves documentation and literature review. The methodology employed is panel data analysis with a Fixed Effects Model (FEM) for six developing countries in the Southeast Asia and East Asia region for the period of 2011 to 2021. The data are processed using the Eviews 10 application.Result — Our findings indicate that women\u27s involvement in parliament has a positive and significant impact on the female labor participation rate. Conversely, the female unemployment rate has a negative and significant effect on the female labor participation rate. Meanwhile, women\u27s education, fertility rate, and female entrepreneurship show no significant impact on the female labor participation rate.Novelty — While a number of studies have explored the factors influencing the female labor participation rate, research on labor force participation rates in Southeast and East Asia has yielded inconsistent results. Hence, there is a need for further investigation to fill this knowledge gap, providing a deeper understanding of the factors influencing the female labor participation rate in the context of developing nations
Endogenous Growth and Environmental Kuznets Curve: Lessons from FDI Impact on Economic Growth in Sub-Saharan Africa
Purpose: This study aims to determine the influence of Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) on economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). It examines the endogenous growth theory and the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) theory, and how they relate to the regional data.Method: Using panel quantile autoregression models, this study explores the relationship between FDI inflows into SSA with energy consumption, carbon emissions, and economic growth. The study is based on data from 1975 to 2018.Result: The study findings conclusively demonstrate that foreign direct investment has a significant impact on the economic growth of the SSA region. Furthermore, the study reveals that energy consumption and carbon emissions in the SSA have consistently increased throughout the study period, with foreign direct investment being identified as the primary driver of this trend. These findings are consistent with the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis, as well as the endogenous growth theory, which suggests that FDI operations can have negative consequences on the host environment.Practical Implications for Economic Growth and Development: The study suggests that Sub-Saharan Africa should manage FDI carefully to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability by promoting green investments and creating an investment-friendly environment
Developing multicultural-based religious tourism in Jember
Purpose — The purpose of this research is to analyze the potential development of multicultural-based religious tourism in Jember Regency, along with the arrangement of tour packages aimed at all societal groups as the final product.Method — This research is a descriptive-qualitative study with data collection techniques in the form of field observations, documentation, and literature studies.Result — The results show that Jember Regency, especially in the area around the city center, has the potential to develop multicultural-based religious tourism through the existence of religious tourism destinations, including Muslim, Christian, and Confucian places of worship with unique and cross-cultural (multicultural) architectural designs. The J-Versity tour package, which includes activities to visit these tourist destinations, is the product offered for the development of multicultural-based religious tourism in Jember Regency.Novelty — This research provides a new perspective on the development of religious tourism in Jember Regency through the multicultural concept presented. It also offers a prototype for organizing and managing religious tourism activities in the city through the J-Versity tour package. This is expected to have an impact since it targets all societal groups across cultures and beliefs
Does Islamic value satisfaction mediate the impact of destination image, service quality, and tourist experience on revisit intention?
Purpose — The purpose of this study is to provide a description and analysis of the direct and indirect impacts of destination image, service quality, and tourist experience on revisit intention mediated by Islamic value satisfaction.Method — This research utilizes associative quantitative methods and purposive sampling techniques. The study population consists of all tourists who visited the Tongke-Tongke Mangrove Forest tourist destination. A total of 114 Muslim tourists that meet the criteria were included in the analysis. The collected data was then analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM).Result — The study found that destination image does not significantly impact Islamic value satisfaction, while service quality and tourist experience do. Destination image, service quality, tourist experience, and Islamic value satisfaction all significantly influence revisit intention. Notably, destination image does not affect revisit intention when mediated by Islamic value satisfaction, but service quality and tourist experience do.Novelty — This study focuses on sharia-based tourism research that incorporates Islamic values. Previous research has yielded inconsistent results regarding the connection between destination image, service quality, and tourist experience in relation to revisit intention. To address this, a new concept called Islamic value satisfaction is introduced, which is expected to mediate the relationship between these variables and enhance their significance

The inclusion of attitude underscores its importance in understanding online shopping behavior.Practical Implications for Economic Growth and Development: This study suggests that enhancing user experience, trust, and satisfaction on marketplace platforms can drive online purchase intentions, ultimately supporting economic growth by boosting e-commerce activity and fostering the development of digital markets
Exploring the Impact of Persuasion Knowledge and Parasocial Relationships on K-Pop Fans\u27 Consumer Behavior in Indonesia
Purpose: This study explores the impact of persuasion knowledge and parasocial relationships (PR) on electronic purchase intention, physical purchase intention, and electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) in the context of K-Pop fanbases in Indonesia.Method: Data were collected through a survey using a questionnaire that measured variables such as persuasion knowledge, parasocial relationships, eWOM, and both electronic and physical purchase intentions. A total of 250 respondents, all of whom are followers of K-pop group fanbases on social media, were selected using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM).Result: The findings reveal that PK has a positive effect on E.PI, P.PI, and eWOM, contrary to the initial hypothesis that suggested a negative relationship. Consumers with higher PK tend to make more confident purchase decisions, both online and offline, and are more likely to engage in eWOM. Parasocial relationships also positively influence all three dependent variables, but the moderation effect of PR was generally insignificant, except for the relationship between PK and P.PI, where a negative moderation was observed.Novelty: This study fills the gap in existing literature by examining how eWOM and persuasion knowledge interact to influence K-Pop product purchases, a relationship that has been largely unexplored in the context of K-Pop fans who possess unique emotional attachments to their idols and products
The Power of Belief: How Ethnocentrism, Religion, and Brand Importance Shape Boycott Behavior and Brand Perceptions in Indonesia
Purpose: This study aims to understand the role of boycott intention in mediating the effects of consumer ethnocentrism, religious animosity, legitimacy, and brand importance on brand image, loyalty, and product judgment among Starbucks consumers in Indonesia.Method: This study was conducted using quantitative methods to test the proposed theoretical model. Online questionnaires were distributed to 406 respondents to measure several variables, including consumer ethnocentrism, religious animosity, legitimacy, brand importance, boycott intention, boycott behavior, brand image, loyalty, and product judgment. The data were collected cross-sectionally from Starbucks consumers in Indonesia. The data analysis method used was Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM).Result: This study shows that the indirect relationships from consumer ethnocentrism, religious animosity, and legitimacy to boycott behavior, through boycott intention, have a negative effect. In contrast, the indirect relationship from brand importance to boycott behavior, through boycott intention, has a positive effect. Specifically, the higher the levels of consumer ethnocentrism, animosity, and legitimacy, the higher the boycott intention. This suggests that consumers in Indonesia who strongly identify with moral, cultural, and religious solidarity are more likely to have an intention to boycott.Practical Implications for Economic Growth and Development: This study provides insights for companies on how to develop transparent and responsive communication strategies to address issues that may trigger boycott intentions
